When Steve Jobs invented the iPhone, he knew it would revolutionize the cell phone / smartphone industry.

But I can imagine he never dreamed it would be catching fish off the beach someday…

Well, the curious folks over at “How Ridiculous” decided to take an old iPhone, rigged on some treble hooks, and hit the shores of Australia to see what they could catch.

Check out what this guy lands using nothing but his iPhone for a lure!

According to the video, the fish weighed approximately 7 lbs!

Amazing!

We’ve all heard about trying to land a fish before a shark gets it…

But have you ever heard of trying to land a shark before a crocodile gets it?

Wait til’ you see this wild footage of a small saltwater crocodile (at least what appears to be a croc – the notes in the video mention both an alligator and a crocodile) aggressively coming on land to get a free meal (in what looks to be a small bull shark, but please correct me if I’m wrong here).

But the angler is having none of it!

I bet he never thought in a million years he would be smacking a crocodile away from a bull shark when he woke up that morning!

Enjoy!

It was just a matter of time before an angler with a drone got creative enough to do this…

Big Game Drone Fishing!

And not just any big game, these guys go after longtail tuna from the beach.

I imagine innovative videos like this are going to open the door for some special clips or attachments for anglers that “drone fish”.

In fact, I’d be willing to be in the future you will see drones helping anglers catch fish just like you see kites being used for catching fish.

Although a drone is certainly more expensive than a kite, it gives you so much control, visibilty below (to scout the fish out and drop the bait in the strike zone), and it doesn’t require wind to work!

I guess time will tell…

In the meantime, enjoy this awesome drone footage (and stay til the end to see multiple flights/fights) from Jaiden MacLean.

If you are an avid angler like me, you don’t just enjoy catching fish, you probably also love seeing fish in their natural habitat.

From snorkeling, scuba diving, or even feeding tarpon and snook from the dock like I did as a kid growing up in Florida.

But one thing I have never done is what Paul Worsteling gets to do in this cool video…

Feed enormous kingfish (along with a few other saltwater species in the mix) at Ned’s Beach on Lord Howe Island (Australia).

Put that on the fishing bucket list for sure.

If only you could fish there…

Enjoy, and let us know if you have ever been here (or know of any other places like it in the world)

Have you ever heard of Alphonse Island?

Most people probably haven’t because it’s a private island in Seychelles that only a very small percentage of Americans ever get to see in their lifetime…

And the place is LOADED with saltwater game fish!

Regardless if you’ve heard of the island or not, after you see this fishing footage from Alphonse, the exclusive island will certainly be on your bucket list.

I mean, check out the little island where they eat lunch every day below!

Also, can you imagine catching a super inshore grand slam topped off with a GT and a billfish or two all in the same day!

Sick!

This Alphonse footage was filmed and edited by Black Fly Eyes, and according to the video this footage below is just the trailer (so there is full-length video coming as well).

We’ll keep you posted when we see it.

Enjoy.

There is loading your boat on a trailer nice and slow, and then there is loading your boat like a BOSS!

Wait til’ you see how fast the captain has this boat moving right up until he hits the trailer!

If you are wondering why he is coming in so fast, apparently this area of Alaska (Ninilchik) is too shallow for a boat this size to idle in so it must stay on a plane all the way until it hits the trailer.

The big question I have is how much do the two trailer guys get paid?

It certainly can’t be enough.

I bet the first time standing on the trailer watching a boat coming at you at a high speed has to be pretty darn intimidating.

Well done guys!

Enjoy.

Imagine walking along a secluded beach in Australia and all of a sudden a colorful Mahi Mahi starts headed towards you in the surf…

Next thing you know, the Mahi has beached itself right in front of you!

What would you do?

Would you keep it and enjoy a nice Mahi meal, or would you try to help it out and send it back to deeper water?

Here is what we could dig up on this wild Mahi encounter:

Australian Rhys Assan was walking on a beach in Busselton, Western Australia and spotted this Mahi-Mahi beaching himself. Assan tried to help the Mahi swim out to deeper water but it kept returning to shore.

And after reading some comments, some people think the Mahi was sick, while others believe it might have lost it’s mate/companion and was beaching itself to die…

What do you think happened to make this Mahi beach itself?

It certainly didn’t appear to be chasing bait, and it certainly was lit up (so the Mahi was charged up).

Let us know what you think in the comments.

Have you ever seen a snook hit a live bait, get hooked, fight for a few seconds, spit the hook out, and then slam the same hooked bait just seconds later?

Ironically, this same scenario was part of our rebuttal to PETA about catch and release fishing when they made some outrageous claims that fish feel pain the exact same way humans do.

(You can read the full rebuttal to PETA about Catch & Release Fishing here)

One of the many points we made in our rebuttal was asking PETA how can a fish can possibly feel pain from a hook the same way a human would, yet strike a hooked bait just minutes (or seconds) after being hooked?

I know that if someone hooked me in the lip and pulled hard, the last thing I would do is have my face near hooks for quite some time…

At any rate, this awesome snook footage is from our friend Capt. Mike Slattery’s new show called the “Charlotte Harbor Chronicles” that is featured on the Sportsman Channel.

Pretty cool show in our opinion because it is based in Port Charlotte where my brother and I have spent most of our lives fishing.

Check out this super hungry snook that Capt. Mike hooked (twice).

Enjoy.

What do you do when you have a nice land-based 100lb+ Tarpon on the line and a lightning storm starts to move in closer?

Well, our friend Brent Bensmiller (aka SHOORTYS on YouTube) of Paddle Naples says stick it out and land the fish!

Check out the awesome fight he had (you can see the tarpon jumping out in the distance quite a few times), not to mention the amazing sunset and lightning clash!

Very cool.

As you will see towards the end of the video, the tarpon measured 6’7″ with a girth of 34 inches (and was estimated to weigh 130 pounds).

Great job Brent!
