This one was tough to watch, while at the same time I couldn’t stop watching…
YouTube user “Fishing Infinite” was attempting to catch his first redfish on a fly rod at his grandparent’s house in Charleston, and he learned a valuable lesson about jumping in a marsh (and handling redfish).
We post this video not to make fun of this guy, but to save anyone else from making the same mistake.
I know from personal experience that it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of landing a fish, but it’s also important to think through your approach (especially if you are fishing by yourself).
The guy is lucky he escaped with just a few oyster infections and some ruined shoes… it could have been a whole lot worse.
As for the redfish, he claims it swam off happily.
Maybe I’m mistaken, but it looks like it could be a slot redfish. Not sure why you wouldn’t just eat him for dinner after all of that?
However, it did look more like a muddy catfish after the fight so I guess I can’t blame him…
Either way, I hope everyone can learn something from this. I’m sure this guy did.
Enjoy.
Thanks to Curry Belk for sending this over.
