If you have ever been tarpon fishing before, then you know how tough it can be to land a “Silver King”.

There are just so many variables working against you when it comes to actually landing a tarpon:

  • The tarpon jumping like crazy and throwing the hook
  • If there is structure around (like docks), it can easily break your line, or perhaps even jump over the dock like it did to Blair Wiggins (watch that tarpon video here)
  • Hammerhead sharks eating your tarpon before you get a chance to land it. By the way, if you never saw “Helpless Tarpon Saved from Hammerhead by Dead Jack Decoy”, you’ve got to watch that here next.
  • And numerous other issues including knots breaking, tarpon jumping in boat (like this), or just a bad hook set.

So when I saw this kayaker (Team Googan, and yes, he’s back) somehow manage to land this tarpon after going through weed lines, almost having his rod tip snapped, and more, I was impressed.

Make sure to stick around for the second tarpon that he hooks, because it almost rips him out of the kayak!

He was lucky it just causes a minor line burn on his hand.

This Salt Strong high school girl, Lexis Chancey, is no stranger to monster fish…

In fact, this is the second time that she has made the home page here at Salt Strong. The first time was when she landed a beast of a 30-lb Snook (watch that video here).

Of course this time she is having to battle a fish that weighs more than she does, all from a kayak. Notice how she comes pretty close to flipping over at one point. Wow!

And if the last name sounds familiar, it is because she is the daughter of Monster Fish Legend Capt. Ben Chancey of Chew on This. If you never saw Capt Ben’s first huge Goliath Grouper from a kayak just a month ago, then check out that video here.

Related: The fishing hole in this video appears to be the exact same spot that a “Goliath Grouper Snaps Kayaker’s Rod and He Still Lands It” video took place. Watch it here if you never saw it.

P.S. – If you think your friends would like this Goliath Grouper video, please share it with them – I’d really appreciate it

This paddleboarder’s famous last words…

“It’s going to be real interesting when this thing gets up to the surface…”

Yep, we couldn’t agree more. Which is why you will only see me catching inshore catching snook, redfish, and trout from a paddleboard.

And for those of you that have never tried paddle-boarding before, know that it isn’t that easy to paddle board out in the ocean without losing a little balance every once in a while, let alone fight a big thresher shark (probably why this paddleboarder sat down a few times).

But he does stand up on his Hobie paddleboard a few times while fighting this shark, so color me impressed.

Note: The paddleboarder in the video is Jared Lane, of Fastlane Sailing Center. He is using a Hobie SUP, and this footage was near La Jolla, CA.

Jared, you are certainly Salt Strong my friend.

If you have ever been “Big Game” Kayak Fishing, then you know that there are numerous things that can go wrong while fighting a big fish from a kayak.

Anything from a big fish flipping your kayak over (usually from your drag being set too tight), to being speared by a billfish, to being bitten by a shark, to being slapped by a Goliath Grouper.

Not to mention, a big fish usually has no problem pulling your light kayak all over the place… sometimes even miles out to sea…

Which is exactly what happened in this kayak fishing video. In this case it was a big Hammerhead Shark pulling the lone kayaker miles before finally being seen on film next to the kayak.

Here is the note from Team Rebel Fishing angler:

“Hooked a hammerhead in 50ft of water and got drug out to 250ft. It ate a bonito 5ft from my kayak. Turned out to be about 11ft shark.”

Hope you enjoy the video, and please share with any of your kayak angler friends.

Do you know what “Cow Tipping” is?

“Cow Tipping” became much more well known in America when the hit movie “Tommy Boy” was released. If you never saw “Tommy Boy”, it was the comedy where Chris Farley attempts to show his new “step-brother” (played by Rob Lowe) how to “Tip over” unsuspecting cows while they are sleeping” (you can watch that here).

At any rate, this video below is just the opposite, which is why it is called “Sea Cows go Human Tipping”.

Human Tipping is what happens when Sea Cows (aka Manatees) tip over unsuspecting paddleboarders and knock them in the water. And from the looks of it, there are quite a few ticked off Manatees in the bunch… and they give this guy quite a wake-up!

At the very end, you can see just how shallow the water was where this occurred. Pretty Wild Video!

Big thanks to Nic Turner of Hawaii for sending this video in to us.

P.S. – If you think your angler and paddleboard friends would find this video amazing, please share it with them – I’d really appreciate it.

Ignorance is Bliss sometimes…

And YES, this is a real video.

And YES, surfers, paddleboarders, paddleboard surfers, boogie-boarders, and anyone else out swimming off pretty much any beach in the world comes incredibly close to sharks more often than they care to know…

Let’s face it, we are playing in their backyards, it is just part of enjoying the ocean, and it shouldn’t scare anyone (especially when you consider that bees kill 5 times more people than sharks do each year).

Fortunately, for the shark and the paddleboarder, no human or animal was hurt in this video.

And it is pretty evident from the video that the paddleboarder had no idea he was running over a shark.

This “Paddleboarder runs over shark” video was filmed by professional videographer/photographer Bo Bridges while using his drone to capture shark footage on beaches. Ironically, he was filming the shark, not the paddleboarder.

Don’t forget to share this with a friend! You Rock!

It was just a couple of days ago that we reported breaking news on Captain Ben Chancey landing a massive Goliath Grouper from his kayak (you can see that video here).

Well apparently this guy in the video below (Jon Black) saw Ben’s footage as he decided to “one-up” Captain Ben by not only catching a Goliath Grouper from his kayak, but doing it with a rod that was snapped by the estimated 552 pound Goliath Grouper!

You can see at the :34 mark where the rod snaps up top (and Jon screams “He Broke The Rod”).

Miraculously, Jon manages to land the Goliath Grouper in shallower water where he could take some quick measurements before releasing the fish.

This Goliath Grouper was 83 inches long (over 6.5 feet), and 73 inches in girth (6 feet)!!!

That puts it at an estimated 552 pounds!

Here is the last picture of Jon with the landed Goliath Grouper

Well folks, Captain Ben Chancey has managed to do it again…

He keeps taking Big Game fishing to a new level… this time catching (and landing) a Goliath Grouper from a Kayak!

If you aren’t familiar with Captain Ben Chancey of “Chew on This TV“, here are just a few of his amazing videos that have made it on our home page of Viral Fishing Videos:

In the meantime, enjoy watching Captain Ben in this amazing Goliath Grouper from a Kayak video below.

And make sure to watch the entire thing. I was about to stop watching after the overview clip, but the full video shows the Grouper pulling him right into the bridge piling and more.

Well done Captain Ben!

Can you imagine being out on your paddleboard and seeing a Killer Whale come right up next to your board?

And can you imagine how shaking your legs would have been if the Killer Whale (orca) tried to take a bite out of your paddle board!

I would have wet my pants!

We can only bet that the Killer Whale was curious about the paddle board, and not biting it for food or to knock the paddle boarder off.

At any rate, freaking amazing video, and great job by Luke Reilly of New Zealand for having the GoPro handy (and for staying up on his board).
