Yesterday we posted a video about a 6-year old catching a 100-pound tarpon that got liked and shared like crazy all over Facebook (you can see it here).

Fortunately for us, Chip and Captain Jeff Maggio (the two masterminds behind the awesome brand Lunkerdog) follow many of our posts and let us in on one of the coolest birthday surprises a 10-year old could ever get down in Florida…

Not only does this 10-year old kid get to spend a day fishing with Captain Jeff, but he also gets to land a thick 150lb tarpon after a two hour fight (that lasted well past the sun going down).

What an experience for that kid that will never be forgotten. Quite different than a birthday event at Chuck E. Cheese…

Thanks for sharing Chip!

Not many 6-year olds have caught fish that weigh more than 10 pounds.

Heck, most of us were teenagers or older before we caught our first 10 pound + fish.

And certainly most 6-year olds have never caught a fish that weighs more than them!

But this young man had other plans… But with the help of Josh from BlacktipH, this awesome 6-year old lands a real nice tarpon (and I won’t dare argue with his weight estimate).

Amazing job little man, and we can’t wait to see your next catch.

Do Not Try This At Home Kids!

Our friend Captain Ben Chancey of Chew On This is always on the hunt for big fish.

Everything from monster sharks, Goliath Groupers, and huge tarpon.

And of course if you catch enough huge fish, eventually one (or more) will attack back.

This video is a compilation of Captain Ben’s “When Fish Attack Back”, and it never gets old to watch.

Amazing job with the Slo-mo!

These young guys look they are having the time of their lives.

And who can blame them when they are catching so many monster fish out of canoes.

From what we can tell, these young guys come down to Florida from Wisconsin on spring break every year to do some hard-core fishing out of canoes.

And the two quotes in the beginning pretty much sum up this amazing “Extreme Canoe Fishing” video…

“We’re going to need a bigger boat”

and

“When my parents see this…”

Just wait until you see the all of the large sharks, tarpon (with some awesome slow-mo tarpon shots), barracuda, and jacks that they catch out of their canoes.

Great job of filming, catching, and keeping us entertained guys!

So apparently Goliath Groupers threw themselves a Goliath Grouper Convention at the Castor Wreck near Boynton Beach, Florida and didn’t invite us…

But either way, it is really cool to see the amazing underwater footage (from Sean Crothers) of this huge school of Goliath Groupers.

And clearly, we weren’t the only ones not invited as Loggerhead Turtle, a Lemon Shark, and some bait balls all came by to see what the Goliath Grouper convention is all about.

Finally, although it is tough to tell from this video, these 100+ Goliath Groupers are all 4-6 feet long!

Wouldn’t it be amazing if a teenager could catch a 1,000+ fish and feed hundreds of people with it?

Well it happened recently off of Hawaii!

This is the footage from charter boat Ihu Nui (Hawaiian for “Big Nose”) that 16-year old Kai Rizzuto landed a monster blue marlin from…the beast of a blue marlin weighed 5 times as big as him (1,058 pounds and 14 feet long).

What is crazy is that the largest fish Kai had ever caught before this was 55 pounds!

Talk about leapfrogging to the top.

In fact, this “grander” marlin caught off of Hawaii by Kai might break a record of the first “grander” (a marlin over 1,000 pounds) ever caught by a teenager.

Even though this is a MONSTER blue marlin (that few ever get the chance to catch), it still fell almost 300 pounds short of the world record (which ironically was caught about 10 miles away in Hawaii from where Kai caught his beast).

After fighting the fish for 30 minutes, the marlin ended up dying, but the great news is here is that Kai is giving the tasty and protein rich meat to the local families, which can feed hundreds of people.

In my books, this is a Win-Win.

If you haven’t seen a Goliath Grouper eat before, then you are missing out on watching one of the most aggressive eaters in the entire ocean.

In most all cases, these Goliath Grouper are even more aggressive eaters than sharks when they attack prey.

And this video by BlacktipH is pretty clear evidence of just how quick and aggressive these large Goliath Groupers are when it comes to getting a meal.

Watch out for your hands when Goliath Grouper are feeding, because clearly they will eat just about anything!

Captain Ben Chancey of Chew on This took out Aubrey from Texas to catch a Goliath Grouper by hand.

And as you can see from this video, Aubrey might look petite (because she is), but she is one tough girl.

At the end of the day, the 100 pound girl wins over the 300 pound Goliath Grouper.

The fish was released, high-5s ensued, and Aubrey had an amazing story to tell her friends back home in Texas.

Well done!

This is pretty amazing footage of a huge marlin launching a dolphin (mahi/dorado) into the air while looking for his next meal…

And the first thing I thought of as I watched this for the second time was “That marlin is launching that dolphin around like an 8th cheerleader”.

According to the video author Mark Garry, this was around a 500-600 pound blue marlin and a 25 pound dorado, and this scene all occurred right it front of them, which was something not many people have ever witnessed before.

Needless to say, it probably didn’t end well for the dorado…

Also, this was all captured down in Los Seunos, Costa Rica.

Hope you enjoy.
