Yep, that 400lb Goliath Grouper making the news yesterday was caught by our very own Ryan “The Wrench” Hein.

I was scrolling through the Salt Strong “Fishing Tribe” private Facebook group feed yesterday afternoon and saw that someone had posted this ABC News video about a Goliath being caught using a Stanley wrench!

And shortly after I realized that Ryan was actually part of the Tribe.

Pa-POW!

For those of you wondering what gear was used to land this 400lb beast of a Goliath Grouper, here is everything according to Ryan Hein:

  • Ugly Stick Tiger Lite (Medium-Heavy) Rod
  • Fin-Nor Lethal LT60 Spinning Reel
  • 50lb high vis pp braid
  • 80lb Seaguar leader
  • 11-inch Stanley Wrench with 6/0 Assist J-Hooks

Well done Ryan.

Salt Strong for sure!

Enjoy.

I can only imagine this blue marlin is going back to his friends telling them all how he stabbed a human on a boat…

If you’ve ever been marlin fishing before, you know that there are a lot of things that have to go right in order to land the marlin.

Ironically, the last thing you want is an energized marlin coming in the boat too early.

Check out what happens on board the Mufasa Sportfishing Boat in Australia this week.

Nuts!

That deckhand was like “Cool Hand Luke” out there! Acted like it hardly phased him that he was almost impaled!

Enjoy.

Warning: The following cobia video might have you packing your bags and heading down to Key West this afternoon…

If you are anything like me, you love catching (and eating) cobia.

And although these amazing fighting (and tasting) fish aren’t all that hard to get a strike from once you locate them, they usually take a little bit of work to find.

So when I saw the crew of Local Knowledge TV come across this school of cobia in Key West, I had to share it with you.

Have you ever seen a school of cobia on the surface basically eating out of your hand like this?

Talk about cobia heaven!

And to top it off, the Local Knowledge guys run into some tuna as well.

What a day!

Enjoy.

You know a fishing video is good when footage of a fisherman harpooning a tuna from a tower is just one of many awesome scenes.

In fact, I had a hard time coming up with which thumbnail picture to use because there were so many amazing shots to choose from.

And it doesn’t hurt that the Talking Heads were playing in the background… I love that song.

This fishing compilation video was created by Matt Rissell of Rissell Outdoor Media (you can check out more on Matt here on his business Facebook page)

It appears as though this is a compilation from some of Rissell’s best fishing footage of last year.

Well done and keep up the great work Matt.

We can’t wait to see what you produce next!

We’re not sure exactly what happened prior to a Remora being stuck on this kid’s stomach…

  • Was it a dare?
  • Was this punishment for being a bad kid on the boat?
  • Were his parent’s trying to create a memorable fishing experience that he will never forget?

Either way, we are glad they captured it on video, as this is pretty funny.

If you aren’t familiar with a Remora, they are also sometimes called “Suckerfish” because they have a sucker-like organ that takes suction on host marine animals such as sharks, whales, big rays, pelagic fish, etc.

The big fish enjoys the company of the remora because remoras remove parasites and loose flakes of skin, while the remora gets protection and endless supplies of food.

It’s a win-win for everyone (except the kid in the video of course).

Enjoy.

If you are like me, watching snook underwater (or leaping out of the water to hit a topwater plug) never gets old.

So when I found this older footage of a diver stumbling upon an awesome snook hole (with one unlucky grouper) I had to share it.

As you will see, this a great “old school” video showing some awesome underwater footage of tons of big snook on a wreck off of Stuart, FL.

Some of the snook were absolute bruisers that would be close to impossible to pull out of that structure if hooked.

And at the beginning of the video, this diver even filmed a goliath grouper that had a pair of Boga grips latched to its jaw…

Important Note: Always be sure to latch your Boga grip to your wrist so you don’t let a fish swim off with them – especially when dealing with larger fish. Not only are you losing a $100 fishing device, but it is almost impossible for a fish to shake the Boga grip off by itself.

At any rate, enjoy this underwater footage.

If you are familiar with the boatmaker called “SeaHunter”, you know they make some of the most solid boats on the water (unsinkable in fact).

But did you also know they can produce one heck of a fishing television show?

Just wait til’ you see the amazing trailer they put together below!

And you might recognize the main character of The Seahunter fishing show as Captain Rob Fordyce from the show “Silver Kings” (click here to watch the epic Silver Kings trailer)

Note: Capt. Rob Fordyce also made “The Complete List: 85 Must Know Saltwater Fishing Experts in Florida”

Here are the details for this up and coming fishing television show called, “The Seahunter”:

  • It premiers April 2, 2016 on the Outdoors Channel
  • It features Capt. Rob Fordyce and celebrity anglers doing both offshore and inshore fishing
  • It is brought to you by Seahunter boats, so expect to see their indestructible boats in every episode

So what do you think?

Will you be tuning in on April to see the opening show? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

If you were following Salt Strong a year ago, you might recall the offshore fishing video that had some of the best marlin drone footage ever recorded on film.

(you can watch the original “Miss Behavin” video here)

In that original video, a group of young anglers flew over to Costa Rica to fish on the legendary “Miss Behavin” with Capt. Jose Reyes, and they hooked up with a ton of marlin.

But the coolest part of the original video was the drone footage. It was some of the first footage of a drone hovering right near a greyhounding marlin, and in a couple of instances, it even looked as if the marlin was going to run into the drone while jumping.

Pretty awesome!

Well, some of the same anglers went back to Costa Rica for some more action with Capt. Jose and the 61″ Miss Behavin.

Check out their experience below.

Note: They caught 25 big game fish in the 2+ days on board using light tackle.

Pa-POW!!!

What a strike!

Crazy how fast these wahoo come in for the kill.

And there is just nothing better than seeing some amazing fish strikes caught on film!

Right around the 1:35 mark in the video watch this Wahoo get stopped in its tracks. It happens so fast you will probably want to watch it a few times… or a 100.

And don’t forget to keep a eye on the screen at 2:58 mark as well… there is a surprise visit from the Tax Collector.

I kept waiting for the shark to come back by and get a bite, but it never happened.

Enjoy and Fish On!
