Hey divers and anglers, I need your input on this video in regards to your candid thoughts on feeding lionfish (or anything for that matter) to eels and other predatory animals in our oceans.

But first, let me explain who Alex Fogg is if you haven’t been on our site before.

Alex Fogg is “The Ultimate Lionfish Killer”.

Literally.

He has plucked more lionfish than probably any other human being that owns a wetsuit and a spear.

Here are just a few of his VIRAL Lionfish videos:

Now back to the issue at hand with feeding lionfish to sea animals such as moray eels. Here are the pros and cons of feeding lionfish to ocean predators like this moral eel.

The PROS:

  1. It could teach the moral eel (and other predators) to eventually start eating lionfish on their own, which could help reduce the amount of lionfish in the Gulf and Caribbean.
  2. It is one less invasive lionfish.

The CONS:

  1. It could teach the moray eel to always expect food anytime it sees a diver.
  2. If fed enough, it could have the moray eel relying more on humans for food than its own natural feeding instincts, which could eventually lead to a starving eel if it forgets how to hunt naturally.

Note: I grew up on a lake in central Florida with a ton of alligators, and the last thing you want to do is feed the gator. Even if you are feeding it a rat or some critter that everyone hates. Does the same thinking apply with lionfish and ocean predators? You decide.

So the big question is: Is it a good thing or a bad thing to be feeding moray eels, sharks, barracuda, or any other predatory fish, mammal, or animal out in the wild?

Would love to hear your comments.

PS – Share with someone else you think might have an opinion on this topic. Thank you!

Let’s face it, you either love spearfishing or you hate it.

And what I have found is that many of the spearfishing “nay-sayers” don’t realize just how much love and respect for the ocean that the vast majority of spearfishing enthusiasts have (of course there are some bad apples just like in any sport).

For instance, most people don’t realize that while spearfishing, you pass up WAY more fish than you shoot at. Not to mention, anything you shoot at, you plan on eating. Unfortunately, spearfishing videos like the one below can give just the opposite illusion to people that have never been spearfishing by making it appear as though every single dive down someone is shooting something (which couldn’t be further from the truth).

Of course this false myth will likely to continue forever because no one wants to see a video where a spearfisherman makes 20 dives down before ever seeing something to shoot.

What I also liked about this video, is that in the first minute, I could have just as easily named this video “The Ultimate Salt Life Compilation” as there is some amazing underwater footage, beach footage, surfing footage, and more.

Great job Youngblood Spearfishing. Good to see you back on our home page after your first video went VIRAL called, “Whale Sharks, Spearfishing, Lobster, Surf, and Bikinis” (watch it here next)

P.S. – If you enjoyed this video, please share it with a friend. Pow!

A little over a month ago, we put out a video on our home page from 13-time World Record Spearfishing “Champion” Cameron Kirkconnell that went somewhat Viral called “Pole Spearing a Monster Predator Fish” (you can watch that video here).

And no offense to that video (as it was freaking awesome), but this other polespear fishing video below that Cameron Kirkconnell and Perrin James (of Last Breath Films) created is pretty unbeatable.

In this epic polespear fishing video, Cameron takes another one of his exclusive dive trips with some clients (this time in the Bahamas), and they pretty much do it all.

Shipwrecks, sharks, spears stingrays, you name it (even if it doesn’t start with an “S”)

P.S. – If the music in this video sounds familiar, it’s because it is the same artist (Glass Animal) that was in the Super-Viral fishing video “Helpless Tarpon Rescued by Dead Jack Decoy in Florida Keys” (watch that video here)

P.P.S. – If you think your angler, diver, or spearfishing friends would find this video amazing, please share it with them – I’d really appreciate it.

Darcizzle (from Darcizzle Offshore) is back!

And this time she is taking her fishing skills underwater as she goes spearfishing with the FAU Spearfishing Team down in the Florida Keys.

If you missed the last few Darcizzle videos, here are a few of our favorites:

Otherwise, enjoy this latest video fromDarcizzle as she and the FAU crew catch lionfish, snapper, and a big kingfish.

My first memory of spearfishing was down in the Bahamas where my dad taught my brother and I (I was 14 and Luke was 12) how to spearfish with a Hawaiian Sling.

To say that we had a blast spearing our dinner would be a huge understatement. Not to mention the spearfishing stories we had to tell our friends when we got back to school were pretty unbeatable…

So when I came across this video of a some guys using the Guerrilla Sling down in the Keys (Elliot Key and North Largo, as well as Fort Lauderdale footage in here as well), it brought back some great memories.

Also, if you want to know more about these “Guerrilla Slings”, the brand that “Spear Big” is using in this video is made by HeadHunter Spearfishing. Here is quick pic of the sling.

New month, new Great White Shark sighting…

Last month, the news feeds went crazy over the Great White Shark that approached a diver in the Gulf of Mexico near Apalachicola, FL (watch that video here).

Well, this month it appears as though the Great Whites want to get some exposure on the East Coast of Florida… in particular, Jupiter, Florida.

Here’s the scoop on this Great White encounter:

40-year veteran diver Jonathan Dickenson of Florida went out spear fishing with his wife Bobbi around 8 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2015 near Jupiter, FL. Shortly after getting to their diving spot, he spotted the approximately 16-foot, 2,000-pound shark (these numbers according to Jonathan’s interview with the local news) while swimming near the Deep Ledges.

Said Jonathan about the encounter, “To see a great white is just amazing, they’re just so majestic. It was awesome.”

Apparently the shark hung around for about 2 minutes before swimming off.

Here is Jonathan’s comment on his YouTube channel from yesterday’s encounter:

“What an amazing encounter off Jupiter today with a Great White Shark. She was 15 to 16 feet long and absolutely beautiful. So glad Bobbi and I could see her together!”

Well our good friend Alex Fogg is at it again… this time wrestling with a Goliath Grouper instead of plucking off Lionfish.

If you aren’t familiar with Alex, he is the diver that has had more Lionfish videos go Viral than anyone else on the planet. And if you haven’t seen his incredible videos, here are some quick links for each one (but make sure to watch the epic Goliath Grouper battle below first).

  • Another Great White on Film. This Time in the Gulfclick here to watch
  • The Ultimate Lionfish Massacreclick here to watch

So back to the video below…

Here is plot: Alex Fogg is down on an Exxon template wreck in the Gulf of Mexico doing some spearfishing. After he plucks a nice hogfish for dinner, a Goliath Grouper decides he wants it for dinner. Most divers would probably just let the Goliath Grouper have its way, and go on to find another hogfish…

But not Alex Fogg the Lionfish Killer!

He fights this Goliath Grouper through the wreck… well I won’t ruin it for you. Check it out below.

And stick around til the end, as the video doesn’t end at the Goliath Grouper scene… Alex keeps going.

When we interviewed 13-time World Record Spearfishing holder Cameron Kirkconnell (you can watch that interview here), he told us something pretty funny that we won’t forget…

“You won’t see any overweight people as professional spearfishing divers…”

And that fact couldn’t ring more true in regards the spearfishing diver in this video! The guy doesn’t have an ounce of fat on him!

This video is an excerpt from the BBC documentary on the nomadic, seafaring tribe known as Bajau (otherwise known as the real “Waterworld” people). They live their entire lives in and around the ocean, and they have trained their bodies to adapt to living almost solely on the ocean.

What is so incredible about this video isn’t the fact that this man named Sulbin can hold his breath for many minutes, but the fact that he does all of his hunting (aka spearfishing) with no fins, no nice equipment, no wetsuits, no weight belts, no nothing…

Just himself and an old speargun.

Note: Do NOT try this at home, and Do NOT walk on the ocean floor or touch coral like he does.

P.S. – Please share with a friend that likes diving.

When Back to Basics Adventure stars Aaron “Az” Gallagher and Jack “Stricko” Strickland went spearfishing on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, the last thing they expected was any type of shark attack…

And as avid divers and experienced spear fishermen, they certainly didn’t expect to be chasing a shark that had stolen their spear gun!

But that is exactly what happens in this amazing video that we have dubbed “Shark Steals Spear Gun“!

Shortly after Jack “Stricko” gets a solid shot off on a Snapper (with his speargun that has a reel line on the gun), the Snapper wraps itself around some coral, forcing Stricko to try to untangle the spear line.

Within seconds, a shark sees an easy meal and blasts onto the scene from out of nowhere, attacking Stricko’s dinner while he has to watch helplessly.

The shark then makes a quick run at Stricko, and as he tries to ward off the shark with his long dive fins, he lets go of the speargun, only to see the shark head back down to take off with the fish and his gun…

You will have to watch the rest of the video to see if he ever gets his spear back…

Enjoy and please SHARE if you thought this was as Amazing as we did!
