Manatee Mania!
The Manatees are back!
And they are stronger than ever in total count according to the most recent Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) manatee statewide aerial survey.
Bioligists with the FWC counted 6,063 manatees statewide this year during their survey (3,333 manatees on the east coast of Florida and 2,730 on the west coast of Florida)
Compare that just over 5,000 manatees back in 2010.
But keep in mind this doesn’t mean that there are exactly 6,063 total manatees as these surveys are done aerially, and there are such factors as weather and visibility.
However, this is still incredibly exciting news as it means there are more visible manatees than in the past.
