Right off the bat, when looking at the MirrOlure MirrOminnow, the lure gives off the appearance of a finger mullet.

Finger mullet are a huge source of food for trout, redfish, and flounder to name a few.

The bi-color tone used to paint the lure also resembles that of mullet and other small baitfish.

Fish may not see individual colors as clear as we do, however, the clear contrast of color on the lure will attract predatory fish.

Best Time To Use The MirrOminnow

When used on its own without any added action, the lure does not move around much in the water.

However, when you add movement and action, you can dictate the presentation of the lure.

Other MirrOlure suspending twitch baits may have a wobble or slight movement after you let it settle down in the water.

If you implement some rod twitches, the MirrOminnow will flash and dart quickly in a wounded bait pattern.

After that, the lure goes back straight to its resting position and stays motionless.

This can be seen as both a pro and a con in some anglers’ eyes.

Spooky fish are sensitive to added vibrations and movement which other lures have after they’ve been manipulated.

By having just a steady lure move in the water without much vibration, you can catch a fish’s attention and not scare it off.

If you were to reel the MirrOminnow in straight, it would have zero roll and no movement other than straight forwards.

The lure has low pitch rattles installed in the body cavity as well.

That proves well in the winter because it will create less vibrations but stay visible enough for predatory fish to spot and strike.

Most Important Key To Using The MirrOminnow

After using this lure several times, the ultimate key is to keep it moving.

Fish will not touch it after the standard twitch-twitch-pause retrieve method.

Instead, you want to add action to it to create a wounded baitfish wobble that fish will hone in on and strike.

In between some light twitches, be sure to continuously swim this lure through the water.

When fish are picky or difficult to induce a strike, this is a lure you should grab out of your tackle box.

Conclusion

The MirrOlure MirrOminnow is a stealth-type suspending twitch bait that is best for shallow water fishing where the fish are being picky!

Always remember to keep steady action on this lure when reeling it in to induce the most strikes!

Be sure to get out and try this lure in the wintertime for up in the shallows!

Thanks for the video Rich. Looking through all the comments and information I could not find the exact lure you were fishing. Been working with Mirrolure for 50+ years and know they have certain numbers bsed on type and color combination. Big fan of the 52MR18. What is the number of the one you are using so I can find where to get one as SS only has the green back.

At the end of the day, not sure how much green vs black back matters, as it is the flashiness that draws the fish. Not sure they are going to take the time to figure out if the top is properly colored. Just my $.02 worth.

Thanks Rich,
I been using this one since last year with great success. Just two questions,
Do you connect the leader to the line directly, or do you attach a barrel swivel?
The connection to the lure, loop knot or swivel?
Thanks again

Enjoyed watching the video by Richard Thomas of the mirrominnow twich bait. The one he uses in the video is black on top while the one shown for sale is green on top. It is the one that he was using available? Thanks, Tom Greene

Hey Tom! I believe Richard might have been using the black-back version in his On The Water footage, but he used the green-back version in his demonstration videos at the table. Both will work very well (they are so close in coloration that I don’t think one would have an advantage over the other). The one we carry on our Tackle Shop is the green-back color. Hope this helps!

I fish the 17MR alot in the SC creeks for trout, but may need to go to the 18MR or MirrOminnow sometimes (or use heavier hooks) in deeper water with heavy current to get the lure down further in the column. Trout love these things! Thanks, Richard!

Thanks Richard! I believe I have that same lure, but have not used it yet. I know I have one at least similar. Now I need to give that a try.
