It’s Florida Mullet Run Time!

And just wait until you see this amazing footage from our friend BlacktipH (see his YouTube channel here).

Every fall the Florida Mullet Run produces some of the best saltwater fishing action in the state.

Countless amounts of mullet make their pilgrimage south to warmer waters where sea grass and algae grow during the winter, which also means more predatory fish following this run than you can count.

It’s a pretty phenomenal site to see!

Heck, our friend Capt. Jeff Maggio even named one his YouTube Channels “The Mullet Run” after it.

And we can’t blame him after watching this incredible mullet footage below.

Warning: If you fish yet don’t live in Florida, this video could have you hanging up your leaf rake for a fishing pole this fall.

Watch Tarpon, sharks, and other predators explode and get airborne on huge schools on the migrating mullet.

Finally, if you have any mullet run footage that can hands down beat this, then please send it to fish@saltstrong.com or just post the video in the comment section.

So far we haven’t found any mullet run footage that beats Blacktiph, but we would love to see it if it exists.

Enjoy.

It’s Barbie rod time!

In particular, a Barbie snook catching compilation from good ol’ Team Googan.

We hadn’t seen much from Team Googan after he made multiple appearances on Salt Strong last year with videos such as:

  • “Watch This Kayak Angler Fight A Tarpon On A Spiderman Rod!” (see it here)
  • “Angler Throws One-Handed Cast Net Pancake While Talking On The Phone” (see it here)

But he’s back, and this time with some great snook footage all while using kid’s fishing rods.

He even has one rod snap in half!

Enjoy.

Note: If you do attempt to catch snook on Barbie rods, do not use the line that comes standard with the reel (it will most likely end up as trash in the water). You will need to re-spool with heavier test line.

Just when you thought paddle board fishing was only for inshore fishing and the occasional tarpon or sailfish off the beach…

Just wait until you see this awesome fight (and amazing jump by the fish) in the video below.

And if the angler looks familiar, it’s because Joey Antonelli has made the front page of Salt Strong again…

I believe this marks his 5th appearance in the past year. Of course, this time, it’s from a stand-up paddleboard (although he understandably was sitting down on the board for most of the fight/sleigh ride).

Much different than his first video of getting bitten in the family jewel region by a triggerfish (you can see that video here)

At either rate, great job of capturing this footage, of NOT wasting live bait, and landing a kingfish on a SUP without any casualties.

Enjoy.

Well, if there was any doubting that the 2016 Mullet Run was in full effect, this brand new video will lay that to rest.

Check out the amazing drone footage that our friend Josh Jorgensen (aka BlacktipH) captured showing the Florida Mullet Run in action over the past week.

This is certainly some of the best mullet run footage I’ve ever seen.

Check out a tarpon cutting through a monster school of mullet from the video

The tarpon and sharks coming in and attacking is epic!

And I loved the view of the three people in the water having no idea what is going on around them.

Check it out!

Looking forward to seeing more mullet run footage from you this fall Josh!

It’s molting time!

Have you ever seen a blue crab shed its exoskeleton for a new shell?

Pretty wild stuff!

The process is called “molting”, and blue crabs do this because they outgrow their outer shell (the hard shell exoskeleton), and need a new, larger shell.

When the crab gets too big for its current shell, it simply breaks out and gets a fresh new body.

This crab will be a soft-shell for 12-24 hours while he absorbs water and salts in order to harden and grow!

Check it out!

Enjoy.

The crew over at Le Cut Studio in Australia had their drone flying to get some surfing footage and ended up finding a seal!

Check out the amazing aerial footage from Bondi Beach as a seal has a tough time getting food with a pod of bait fish that are all certainly aware of the seal.

Funny how they don’t seem to mind the surfers so much.

At any rate, awesome footage from our friends down under.

Enjoy.

I can’t make this stuff up folks…

In what could be one of the weirdest advertisements to get kids to protect their skin from the sun, Nivea makes a robotic bird that poops out SPF!

Yep.

Apparently, some people are having so much trouble putting sunscreen on their kids that they invented a flying bird robot that would “poop out sunscreen” on kids to make the experience a fun one.

I can only assume that this is a prank to get kids thinking that sunscreen is cool. Let’ just hope they don’t start associating real bird poop for sunscreen…

I can only imagine kids being conditioned to rubbing anything in that comes from a bird’s bottom. Haha.

I guess they never heard of the 50+ UPF rated sun protection shirts from Salt Strong!

It’s a whole lot easier to protect your kids from the sun than making a robot sunscreen pooping bird!

Either way, we are all about supporting kids protecting themselves out in the sun.

Enjoy.

The GT (aka Giant Trevally).

It’s a fish that makes most saltwater angler’s bucket listas they aren’t that easy to find (or land).

Many anglers spend years trying to land a prize GT on a fly rod.

Yet, in the Cook Islands, there is a place where the Giant Trevally fish are everywhere, and you can even get out and hand feed them if you are brave enough… Apparently Paul from iFishTV didn’t see either of these two videos of GT attacking food like hungry piranha:

At either rate, what an amazing experience to hand feed Giant Trevally like this.

I can only hope that Paul and the crew went out and landed a few of them on the trip as well.

Enjoy!

What’s SUP!

Well, I’ll tell you what’s up.

Our friends over at AFTCO just released their latest “Surface Tension” video, and this one is using a skinny water SUP (Stand Up Paddle Board) to catch blue water fish.

Note: If you never saw, “BOOM! Now This Is How You Make A Redfish Video”, then click here now to see it.

In particular, AFTCO Pro Troy Faletra of Throw Raft heads out from the beach on a BOTE board to catch mahi and sailfish from his SUP.

Pretty cool stuff. Well filmed video gents.

Enjoy.
