The Red Hot Chili Peppers had Flea.

Well, Mexican fishing has Sandflea.

Never heard of Sandflea before?

He is a legendary fishing guide on the island of Holbox (it’s in Mexico where the Gulf of Mexico meets the Caribbean), and the locals know him as the man with tarpon tattoo on his back.

And anyone who has fished down there knows him to be one of the best guides to get you on tarpon.

Tons of tarpon.

Anglers from all over the world come to fish with Sandflea.

Check out this trailer the Fly Fishing Film Tour did.

Amazing job. Hope to get to meet this guy someday.

Have you heard of the XPLOR Project yet?

If not, you will.

We just interviewed Frankie Marion (the creator of XPLOR) about his wild idea of surviving on an uninhabited island for a couple weeks, and we were blown away by this amazing trip.

The best part is that Frankie got a ton of footage that he put into ten different short videos showing their adventure in Andros.

Here are the rules for the XPLOR trips:

xplor project andros

  1. All protein must be taken from the see using a fly rod or hand spear
  2. No resupplying
  3. No turning back

Check out all ten of the episodes from Andros below.

If you are anything like me, you will be excited to hear that Frankie just finished up another trip and he will be releasing footage soon. It is them living in a remote area of the Louisiana Delta for weeks in some pretty bad weather.

Conclusion

If you can’t afford to take two to four weeks off work to do an extreme fishing adventure, then the next best thing is watching someone else do it…

Great job by Frankie Marion and the team over at XPLOR Project on their exciting work.

More of us need to get outside for long periods of time like this.

It’s good for the sou.

The Costa Rica Inshore Grand Slam…

Permit.

Bonefish.

Tarpon.

All landed on a fly rod in the same trip.

Most of the locals in this part of the Costa Rican jungle say it’s never been done.

You see, these waters are known primarily for their monster tarpon, but rarely do you find permit and bonefish (unless you know where to look).

Check out the amazing trailer by Capture Adventures Media & Anglers Eye Media as they film anglers Mark Martin and Alex Beck trying to complete the very first Costa Rican Grand Slam.

I know I will be tuning into the IF4 (Fly Fish Film Festival) to see the full film.

How about you?

Enjoy.

Have you ever caught a freshwater redfish?

And I don’t mean “brackish” water redfish, I’m talking pretty much pure freshwater.

Although it’s obviously not as common as catching a redfish near the mouths of where freshwater meets saltwater, redfish have been known to venture past the brackish blends and be found alongside bass and bluegills.

Check out the experience the “Texas Redfish Hunter” recently had while trying to catch bass.

The irony was he had been out in the saltwater the past few trips and was skunked when it came to catching reds.

Pretty awesome.

Enjoy.

The meaning of low tide…

“Going places where most guys won’t go… seeing things that most people won’t ever see… that’s an experience.”

Some great quotes from this awesome short video of a man’s quest for low-tide redfish in Charleston, South Carolina.

Regardless if you are into fly fishing or not, there is nothing cooler than tracking down redfish in ultra low tides.

It’s hunting on water.

Great job Ryan Rodgers.

Enjoy.

4-year old Kellan Hunt has done it again…

Talk about putting on a fishing clinic.

In just one afternoon this little guy lands more snook than many adults will land in an entire year… all from a stand-up paddleboard!

Check out how many snook and trout he lands while out fishing with his dad (Courtland Hunt from the viral Glock lionfish video) and his legendary inshore guide Capt. Scott Moore.

I think we can all agree that we need more young kids like this getting involved in fishing. Makes me smile seeing how much this young man loves the sport.

More tackle boxes and fewer Xboxes!

Enjoy.

This could be Redfish Heaven!

A while back I posted a video called, “The Biggest School of Redfish Ever Captured on Film” (if you never saw it, make sure to watch it here).

And in that Redfish post, I asked any and all anglers to send me video footage of a bigger school of redfish (if it existed).

I heard from a few people that had seen larger schools of redfish, but unfortunately, they didn’t have any video footage of it.

And then I heard from Harry Heath Huelsbeck from Pensacola, FL.

He sent me this redfish video below that was nothing short of AWESOME.

Not to mention, Harry accomplished the following feats with this redfish video:

  • Certainly the biggest school of redfish captured on film
  • He catches a ton of redfish on a fly rod
  • He puts in some fist-pumping music for some extra icing on the cake

Well done Harry.

It is pretty clear why you are screaming up at the sky yelling, “Holy Redfish School!”

And if this doesn’t get you fired up about catching winter Redfish, I can only assume you hate puppies and icecream as well.

One of the coolest parts about having a drone on the boat is being able to see what’s going on in the water from a bird’s perspective.

Check out this sweet drone footage from Rowdy Trouty that he captured recently in Tampa Bay.

Those mullet didn’t stand a chance!

Crazy how fast these dolphin can turn on a dime.

No wonder the inshore bite shuts down when these guys enter the scene.

Enjoy.

Have you heard of redfish following around stingrays to eat up the shrimp, crabs, and bait fish that the ray stirs up?

Well, now you can see what it looks like from up above.

Our friend Sam Root captured this cool drone footage the other day while doing some filming in Florida.

It is pretty clear that there are two redfish in hunt mode, but what is that third fish in the top of the screen?

Pompano? Jack?

Let us know what fish you think it is in the comments.

Enjoy.
