If you aren’t familiar with the monster fish in Australia called a “Potato Cod”, it is the Australian version of our Goliath Grouper.

And in this video below, the epic spearfishing group from Australia called Terra Australis comes across a large Potato Cod that needs some serious help.

As you will see in the video, the large cod was stuck on some rocks as the leader in his mouth had a large weight on the end that became jammed in between some structure.

FYI – Luke will be doing a new fishing tip on how to properly make a Grouper rig that avoids this serious issue of having the weight impair a grouper after a break off.

Fortunately for this potato cod, the guys at Terra Australis came prepared and saved him before a shark could come in for an easy kill.

Here are the same guys from Terra Australis taking a ride on one of these monster Potato Cods! (watch it here or click the picture below)

I can’t make this bad luck bananas on board stuff up folks…

Here is a video note from our friend Capt. Ben Chancey (of Chew On This):

“After eating a banana, angler gets pulled in by a Goliath Grouper”

Now if you never read the funny (yet informative) “Top 5 Myths About No Bananas On Board Your Fishing Boat” then I highly recommend you read that here so you know exactly why bananas are bad luck on boats.

In that blog post, you will learn about all of the bad things that can happen to you if and when you decide to bring a banana on board your boat…

One of which is falling overboard…

The only good news in this video is that they actually retrieved the rod and reel, but it can only be because the banana had been discarded…

Enjoy.

Holy Cobia!

Can you imagine fighting a 141-pound cobia on a spinning reel!

Or catching a 141-pound cobia on any rod and reel for that matter…

Check out Elie Tackchi with Reel Deal Sports Fishing catching the biggest cobia ever landed on hook and line.

The beast of a cobia weighed a mind-blowing 141-pounds and took almost an hour to land off the Hallaniyat Islands, Oman.

Sadly, it won’t qualify as the IGFA World Record Cobia because it wasn’t weighed on an official scale, but that doesn’t change the fact that Elie Tackchi is the man!

Amazing job guys, and certainly a cobia that you will never forget.

Enjoy.

Did you ever see the VIRAL video where our friend Joey gets bit in the family jewels by a triggerfish on film? (watch “This is what happens when a triggerfish gets the ultimate revenge on a diver!)

Well, he’s back…

And this time with some sweet revenge of his own on some bull redfish.

Check out Joey and his three friends all fighting redfish at the same time…

It’s not a Double-Up…

And it’s not a Triple-Up…

It’s the infamous Quad-Up!

Earlier this morning, we posted a wild video of a Goliath Grouper not only stealing a spearfisherman’s catch, but dragging the diver along with him while he ran off with his spear (watch that video here).

So when we saw our friend Darcizzle (from Darcizzle Offshore) take on a Goliath Grouper for her first time, we had to share it with you.

Darcizzle had an incredibly easy time getting the monster fish up in just the first 30 seconds, but then the Goliath Grouper realized what was going on, and he made a serious run for the structure….

Watch the full battle between Darcizzle and the Goliath Grouper below.

You’ll discover why these pesky large fish can be tough to land.

Enjoy.

FACT: 6-year old Sam Adams is incredibly Salt Strong.

Just when you thought a young kid with a name like the iconic beer “Sam Adams” couldn’t get any more awesome, you see him go to battle on the beach with a monster fish and totally impress you ever more.

Not only that, young Sam Adams of New Jersey wasn’t just out spending quality fishing time with his dad that day, he was competing in a fishing tournament!

And this monster striped bass ended up earning him first place in the 2015 LBI Surf Fishing Classic Tournament.

What an awesome moment for Sam, his dad, and everyone involved.

No doubt Sam will go on to catch larger fish (since he is already breaking records at age 6), but this will be one that he will never forget.

Here are a couple of pics of the striped bass that Sam caught.

Check out how big that thing is compared to him!

I put these pics in because the video below doesn’t do a great job of showing the actual fish, but still worth the watch to see this young guy go to battle on the beach.

Angler Dennis Verreet is well-known in Australia for landing some of the biggest game fish from land.

In fact, he has been working on beating numerous world record catches…

The video title mentioned a potential land-based world record on spinning tackle for this beast of a yellowfin tuna, but I didn’t see any final documentation.

However, it did mention that the tuna in this video ended up weighing in at 230lbs.

That’s a big tuna for a boat, not to mention landing it from rocks!

Well done Dennis.

And well done Dennis’s ladyfriend with that monster gaff!

Chances are, you’ve been there before if you are a serious angler…

You can see the storm coming, there are flashes of lightning and echos of thunder from miles away, and your instincts tell you that it is best to pack up and head back in to port…

But if the bite is hot, or even better, you have a monster fish on, sometimes an angler must do what an angler must do.

Check out this awesome footage from the Salty Roots guys getting wet and pulling up monster permit (this was one of four permit they caught that day, and the biggest one came in at 50 pounds!!!)

Great job gents.

And for you salty anglers that don’t think it is a big deal to fish in a downpour from a wide open, unprotected, no cover flats boat, the video notes did say that there was thunder and lightning (that can’t be seen from the angle of this GoPro footage).

Enjoy.

As a Floridian, when I think amazing Tarpon footage I think about Boca Grande, the Florida Keys, and the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area…

But after watching this video of some sick tarpon acrobatic work, I now have to add Texas to the list.

Some amazing footage from Project Tarpon on this “Texas Two-Step” footage.

Although I highly encourage you to watch the entire video, here are a few marks in the video that you have to see:
