There are redfish videos, and then there are over the top freaking awesome redfish videos…

And this latest masterpiece by our friends over at Catch 1 Films certainly fits in the freaking awesome redfish video category.

In fact, this video is like watching a mini-movie.

Amazing from start to finish!

Heck, even the aerial footage during the credits at the end are worth sticking around for.

If you ever want to land some redfish like this, then look up Southern Fly Expeditions there in Lousiana (they are anglers that helped make this video possible with Catch 1 Films).

The anglers in this Louisiana redfish video are as follows:

Great job guys and we look forward to the next video!

“DJ” Dan Decibel is no stranger to our website…

In fact, his epic videos have been featured five times on our site in the last 12 months (you can see them all here)

And female fly angler Rebecca Courtney almost froze up our site with so many views to her first video on Salt Strong (see it here)

So when I saw that these two anglers came together for a tarpon fishing video, I knew it was going to rock!

Here are just a few things you will see in this amazing tarpon video:

  • An alligator coming right up the boat
  • Tons of juvenile tarpon footage
  • A fast food lady naming the video (OMG)

Great stuff guys!

Keep up the great work.

Note: Here are the full list of characters in this video: Alex Russell, Rebecca Courtney, Dan Decibel, Jason Fernandez, Jeremy Chavez, and Patrick Gringas.

Well, our friend Patrick Rhea of LivitFilms has done it again…

He nailed another amazing inshore fishing video (if you didn’t know, Patrick and his uncle Nick Shirghio were the ones who filmed the 2015 Saltwater Fishing Music Video of the Year, “Fishing In Our Soul”)

But this time he was out there with our friends over at Avid Charters (along with two pro surfers).

The two surfers that ditched their boards for the day to take a shot at some nice redfish and snook are Smith Optics pro surfers CJ Hobgood and Brett Barley.

I can only imagine after seeing that sick mullet run action, those two surfers will be back for more…

The captain in the video is our friend Capt. Rob Rohmann of Avid Charters over on the east coast of Florida.

Check out the amazing footage they captured fishing from Jupiter to Sebastian Inlet.

Enjoy!

Fact: There is such thing as being “Salt Strong” out on the water, and then there is such thing as being SUPER Salt Strong…

As you will see below in the video, this extreme angler named Manuel from the documentary “The Sharkcallers Of Kontu” is SUPER Salt Strong.

Heck, I think he is actually off the charts Salt Strong…

Now if you ever thought catching a shark from the beach was hard work, try going out off the coast of New Guinea in a small outrigger canoe with nothing but some a paddle, some noisemakers, a bat, and a large dose of courage…

And if you ever wanted to know how to catch sharks by hand, this is how it is done.

Pretty nuts.

No wonder they call this guy the “Sharkcaller”.

Here is quick note about “The Sharkcallers of Kontu” if you have never seen it:

“The Sharkcallers of Kontu depicts the ancient tradition of shark calling in the village of Kontu, on the remote west coast of New Ireland in Papua New Guinea. There are only a few men remaining who use magic to call, trap and kill sharks by hand from their small outrigger canoes.”

Enjoy.

It’s a fact, the Seaspan “Survivor” Phoenix logging ship is built Salt Strong…

As you can imagine, the thumbnail picture of this logging ship loaded down with logs (looking like it was about to sink) caught my eye…

And then when I saw the full video (below) on what this massive ship is capable of doing, it blew my mind.

Talk about engineering awesomeness!

Here is what this ship (the Seaspan Survivor Phoenix) does for the logging industry up in British Columbia.

Here is a pic of the ship loaded to the max and cruising pretty fast down the coast of Canada

As you probably know, Canada is loaded with an abundance of natural resources including tons of forest land.

But because of the rugged terrain of the area, it can be almost impossible to get trucks in and out to transport the logs after they are cut.

This is where the Seaspan logging ship comes in.

In the past, it was common to see large groups of logs towed in the water, but that posed several limiting factors such as making it really tough (and dangerous) in rough weather, and it was impossible to tow as many logs as one of these large logging ships could hold.

Overall, some of these logging ships can transport upwards of 15,000 tons of logs.

That is equivalent to 700 logging trucks!!!

Wow.

Check out this bad boy logging ship in action below.

Enjoy.

Did I mention that this innovative boat anchor also comes in 900HP and 1200HP?

Yep.

Of course, that is only if you can afford it…

Regardless of the cost, Mercury’s latest engine technology is pretty darn slick.

In fact, if 20 years ago you had told an avid boater that there would be boat motors that could hold you in place via GPS signals like an anchor (without any anchor, anchor line, setting an anchor, etc), they would have thought you were crazy.

And they probably would have slapped you in disbelief if you told them that center console boats would have outboards pushing well over 1200 horsepower from the back… but that’s a whole different story…

Well, this technology not only exists (thanks to Mercury Marine), it can be seen out there in many of today’s new center console fishing boats.

It’s called the Mercury Skyhook, it works off of a GPS, and it is all controlled from a joystick (just like playing a video game except you are controlling a multi-six-figure boat).

And it can keep you in perfect place:

  • While you wait for a slip at the marina to gas up
  • Over a wreck where you don’t want to risk dropping an anchor
  • Over your favorite honey hole that has too much current for a trolling motor

Check it out below and let us know what you think in the comments.

Enjoy.

Fish On.

If you have been following our friends down under called “MorningTide Fishing” then you know that these guys are the most EXTREME catch and release anglers in all of Australia, if not the world.

So why would they recommend completely ignoring the fishing bag limits?

Because it is the same bag limits protecting our fisheries that can sadly lead to overfishing!

Let me explain in one simple sentence.

If every single recreational angler kept his or her full bag limit every day, there would be nothing left for the next generation.

Meaning, it is our DUTY as anglers to respect the fish, to keep only what we truly need to eat, and to never hit a fishing bag limit just because it exists.

And as our friends at MorningTide so succinctly said it in this video below, “It feels pretty awesome and indescribable to release a fish and see it continue to thrive and grow”.

We agree.

And we agree that sport fishing is more about the line screaming out of a reel, the fight, and the challenge of catching fish, not just showing off your catch at the marina cleaning table.

One final point to bring up that is just as critical to releasing a fish… and it revolves the “HOW” you release the fish.

We published a highly shared post that shows you exactly the right and wrong way to release a fish (just because you release a fish doesn’t always mean it will swim away and thrive).

Here it is below.

Great job MorningTide Fishing!

Fish On.

Imagine enjoying a nice day on the beach with your family in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida when all of a sudden you see someone with a fishing pole reeling in a monster 13ft Hammerhead Shark right where you were just swimming…

As you can imagine, this scene created some chaos from onlookers at this Ft. Lauderdale beach, and I can only imagine that no one was going back in the water in that area anytime soon (even though it would have been just as safe as before, and that hammerhead certainly went as far away from that place as he could…)

Either way, it certainly made the day unforgettable for the beachgoers that got to see this!

It was a great job on the release (especially considering all of the mayhem behind them), and beach lovers shouldn’t be too worried about sharks like this coming up into the shallows where they are swimming.

For instance, this huge hammerhead shark was hooked hundreds of feet away from the beach while on the pier, and large hammerheads like this rarely come in the shallows of the beach.

Note: The anglers in the video are known as the Infinity Fishing Team.

Coming home with a 19 lb red grouper that breaks a new world record on a freediving trip is pretty darn awesome…

Well, can you imagine bagging an 8 lb lobster (by hand) on the way up!

This is one of our all-time favorite videos from our friend Cameron Kirkconnell, and we wanted to play this one today because yesterday was Cameron’s birthday!

Happy birthday brother.

We hope you spent it out on the water with friends and family.
