Back by popular demand… Joey Antonelli!

If you don’t know Joey, he was the diver in the crazy Viral fishing video where the “Triggerfish bites him in the Family Jewels” (you can watch that video here if you never saw it).

In this new video below, Joey has another run of bad luck while he goes cast netting for some pogies on his SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) while tarpon fishing in South Florida.

After a nice cast from his paddleboard (which isn’t easy if you have never done it), Joey starts to pull in the cast net and notices that it is a bit heavier than usual…

He quickly notices that all of the pogies are moving to one side, and the next thing he notices is he has a HUGE HOLE in his cast net!

I won’t ruin it for, but you might want to watch this video more than once!

Who needs a heavy duty rod and reel for land based shark fishing when you can just use a Cuban YoYo!

If you have never seen anyone use a Cuban YoYo before, it is pretty basic.

But it’s not as easy to use for a first timer as you may think… especially fighting big game fish.

Let’s just say you might need to warm up your forearms and wrists before fighting blacktip sharks on a Cuban YoYo!

If you never saw our friend “Team Googan” fight a sailfish out of his kayak with a YoYo, then click here to watch that awesome video!

WOWZERS!

Talk about a day of spearfishing that this 8-year old kid will never forget!

And thank goodness he had a spear to prod the shark away, or this brave young kid could have had more proof of this “shark attack/charge” than just the GoPro video footage…

This kid is definitely Salt Strong!

Here are the notes from the video:

WHILE ENJOYING A DAY SEARCHING THE OUT REEFS. A 5 FT BLACK TIP SHARK GOES AFTER NATHAN GRANET (8) …NATE HELD HIS SPEAR OUT FOR PROTECTION, WHILE DAD WAS HANDED A SPEAR QUICKLY BY NATES BIG BROTHER HOLDEN (ON BOAT) AND FENDED OFF SHARK.

THE LOCAL BAHAMIANS BLAMED RENEGADE SHARK FEEDING OPERATIONS FROM THE US FOR CREATING HOSTILE SHARKS AGGRESSIVE TO HUMANS. THE ATTACK WAS UNPROVOKED.

WE HAD SPEARED NO FISH AND HAD JUST ARRIVED AT THE SHOAL WEST OF WALKERS CAY. NATHAN WAS BACK IN THE WATER THE FOLLOWING DAY ENJOYING THE BEAUTIFUL BAHAMIAN REEFS. ….BRAVE 8 YROLD BOY

Make sure to watch the part at the end where they show the shark attack in Slo-Mo1

Apparently Ryan Sansoucy and Conway Bowman didn’t watch the video on our website about why you NEVER want to hook a Mako Shark near your boat…

(It was called, “This Is Why You NEVER Want To Hook A Mako Shark Next To Your Boat” – you can watch it here)

These guys are NUTS!

As if there wasn’t already enough challenge in landing the powerful and high-flying Mako Sharks, Ryan and Conway decided to try it while on a stand-up paddleboard (SUP)… all while using a fly rod.

The only positive thing they had in their favor was that the Mako Sharks around them were not 500lb+ beasts, but still an incredibly wild fishing experience nonetheless.

Just imagine how fast your heart would be beating when the mako shark is right up next to your paddleboard and you are attempting your first release!

Would you do this?

Let us know in the comments.

Captain Marty Starling of Orange Beach, Alabama is the man!

Not only is he one heck of a fisherman, but he is a downright hilarious commentator.

Somebody get this captain on a fishing show because I will watch it!

Here is one of my favorite lines from the video:

“Only one person hooked a fish, out of all of that!”

Fill in the blanks in the comment section on Marty’s fishing line from the video (at the 1:18 mark):

“You all need to try _______________”

Well, whatever Capt. Marty said to his clients worked, as the next scene they are all hooked up on big redfish.

Make sure to check out Salty Dog Fishing Charters if you are ever near Orange Beach, AL.

Now it should come as no surprise that if you go out in the ocean, you might see a shark.

In fact, you might be just a few meters away from a shark like the surfer in this video below and have no idea…

As the funny Will Ferrell “Anchorman” meme that was getting spread around earlier this year said, “This Just In, There Are Sharks In The Ocean…”
sharks caught on drone

Either way, no matter how many times you tell yourself the sharks are more scared of you that we are of them, it is easy to forget that when you see a monster shark next to you in the water.

And I don’t think many of us realize just  how close we come to big sharks while out in the saltwater…

But the one thing we all have to keep in mind is that 99% of sharks out there are just curious. We are intruding on their turf, not the other way around.

And if you are surfing or snorkeling in shark infested areas, just make sure there is always some slower than you around…

Enjoy the drone footage from Pismo Beach, California.

So why do Mako Sharks dislike Japan so much? Haha. Just kidding. They love Japan… they just hate meat with a line on it!

This video was taken by Salt Strong “Fishing Tribe” member Marcy Mock (if you want to be part of the closed Fishing Tribe group on Facebook, make sure to register as a FREE Salt Strong member here first, and then we will grant you access).

While Marcy was out boating off of Pompano, FL, they came across an approximate 10ft, 500 pound Mako Shark that didn’t like the fact the meat hanging off of their boat had a line attached to it…

So what did the Mako do?

It did what any of us would do… It went for the Suzuki motor to show Marcy who is boss! Haha.

Make sure to watch this entire video as they get some shots of the teeth marks on the motor towards the end.

Wild Stuff! Great job on the video Marcy!

If you are into Marlin fishing, the ultimate bucket list for most marlin anglers is to land a “Grander”.

A “Grander” marlin is any type of marlin that weighs 1,000 pounds or more (usually a black marlin or a blue marlin).

And not that many anglers ever get to claim they landed a grander marlin. In fact, there were only 38 Granders landed worldwide in all of 2014 according to GranderWatch.com (yes, there is even a site dedicated to it).

So when Matt Watson from “The Ultimate Fishing Show” had one of the biggest marlins he had encountered hooked up on his boat near the Great Barrier Reef in Australia, nothing was going to stop him from witnessing what could be a world record marlin…

Not even peeing his pants.

That’s right, he literally pees in his shorts because he didn’t want to miss a minute of the action. Now that is a dedicated angler!

I won’t ruin what happens to the marlin, but let’s just say there are some MONSTER fish near the Great Barrier Reef. Wow!

FACT: Mako Sharks hate being hooked

FACT: Mako Sharks jump clear out of the water and do backflips when hooked to try and break off

FACT: You do NOT want to be close to a Mako Shark when it is jumping…

I won’t ruin this amazing video below, but let’s just say these anglers got an up close view of a Mako Shark doing some amazing aerial work…

Count the jumps…

One!

Two!

Three!

Four!

FYI, they were fishing off Huntington Beach, CA.
