Holy Goliath Grouper Honey Hole!

After watching countless videos of anglers pulling up Goliath Grouper in and around the famous old phosphate dock at Boca Grande, I always knew that there must be a bunch of them down there.

And after fishing around this area many times and getting broken off in the pilings, I knew there must have been tons of grouper down there…

But I had no idea it was packed wall to wall with them.

Make sure to watch the entire video to see just how big this school of Goliath Grouper really is.

Wowzers!

The diver, explorer, and photographer David Vanden Bosch (aka Diver Dave) was the guy who captured all of this amazing footage last month while down at the bottom of the old Boca Grande Phosphate Dock.

To say that those old pillars were LOADED with fish is an understatement.

Not only did he find what could be the world record Goliath Grouper hideout, but he also saw snook, snapper, spadefish, and even a toadfish!

Great job David! Thank you for sharing this amazing dive with us.

I know there are countless anglers that have always wondered what the view was like down there.

Here at Salt Strong, we come across a TON of fishing videos…

Some are good, some are great, and some are nothing short of amazing.

Well, this video below from Dustin Dykes and Savage Charters (with Capt. Chris Law) fits in the amazing bucket.

As you will see below, it is nothing short of every inshore angler’s dream… to see and catch tons of inshore fish. And they didn’t just capture one species on film… their drone footage captured just about every inshore Florida fish imaginable.

In fact, the worst part of this video was all of the time it took me to agree on a headline for the post. There was just so much over the top footage that I couldn’t decide on what to focus on!

For instance, in this amazing Boca Grande video, you’ll get:

A bird’s eye view of how many fish (and how they move) on a Florida grass flat
What happens when a shark comes up to a school of tarpon (the drone footage of this is epic)
And a whole lot more!

If this doesn’t make you want to fish Boca Grande, then nothing will.

If you’ve ever been fishing for redfish, you know that some days they won’t touch any lure or live bait you throw at them, while other days they will hit just about anything…

This is one of those latter days…

Two things about this video on catching a redfish with a set of pliers:

You are going to want to see this guy catching a redfish on a set of pliers!
You are going to want to share this one with your friends as they certainly won’t believe it unless they see it!

Here is what went down in Boca Grande, FL…

Captain Justin Moore and Ben Guth were out fishing for redfish in Boca Grande.
They were catching redfish after redfish on live bait and topwater plugs.
So a bet was made…
Could they catch a redfish by casting out a set of Hemostat Pliers?
They did what any curious and competitive angler would do in that situation…
They attached a hook to the pliers and wasted no time in testing them out as bait…
And on the second cast, Ben lands a nice redfish on the pliers!!!

Amazing job gents.

And we agree, you might want to patent that lure Captain Justin Moore and Ben!

When Heather recently went Goliath Grouper fishing with our friends from Big Bully Outdoors, little did she know that she would be catching not one, but TWO Goliath Grouper!

And she probably didn’t know that the water was going to be so cold that day…

But when you land your very first Goliath, it’s part of the ritual to get in the water and take a pic with the giant fish (it is illegal to take the adult Goliath Grouper out of the water for any reason fyi).

Great job Heather!

It’s Tarpon Time!

Wait until you see how many tarpon are in this amazing tarpon video out of Boca Grande, FL video!

And sorry to bust your bubble, but I think it is close to impossible to count all of them (we tried). However, we will gladly give a Salt Strong hat to anyone that takes the time to count every single tarpon in this video.

Also, if a couple of the guys or clips look familiar, it’s because this video is from the same guys that brought us “The Best Tarpon Video To Ever Come Out Of Boca Grande” that went incredibly VIRAL on Salt Strong (if you never saw that video, then make sure to watch it here next).

This video was edited and filmed by the amazing Thomas Scoggins, and we hope enjoy seeing a crazy amount of tarpon from above (using the drone), and on the surface.

Our friend Capt. Andrew and Mallory Herzog from Big Bully Outdoors first made an appearance on our site way back in February with their amazing video titled, “13’7 Hammerhead Shark Caught From The Beach!” (you can watch it here).

And now they are back as the Salt Strong daily featured video once again!

This time with a wild Goliath Grouper video from Boca Grande, Florida.

I won’t ruin the reason that Alan from the FWC (Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission) acted fast by putting his arm down this big Goliath Grouper’s mouth…

Let’s just say that everything about his brave move was “PURE STEEL“…

If you thought the song “My Milkshake Brings All The Boys To The Yard” by Kelis was bad, then you haven’t seen anything yet…

Although I debated telling you this (for those of you that don’t know me), the guy with the mustache singing while fishing in this video below is none other than me (Joe Simonds).

And quite honestly, I had completely forgotten about this short clip that we filmed back in January while fishing around Boca Grande, FL until one of our viewers reminded me about it.

The only good news was that he said it had him laughing for the entire day, and that we would be crazy not to feature it.

So here goes nothing…

Patrick Rhea of LivitFilms and his drone flying stud partner Nick Shirghio have done it again!

They have somehow produced back to back saltwater inshore fishing video masterpieces that certainly land each of the videos up in the rankings of top inshore fishing videos of all time.

After coming off a Grand Slam hit video called, “Fishing in our Soul” with Jill’s Cashbox featuring Salt Strong (in our humble opinion the best saltwater inshore video of all time), Patrick and Nick Shirghio hit another home run with Eleven Angling: Bluemoon Expeditions out of Islamorada, Florida with their fly fishing video at the bottom of this page.

Just wait until you see the tarpon footage! Amazing.

Even though the Wildlife Dept in the state of Florida claims Goliath Grouper aren’t ready to be harvested again due to their small population, these massive fish have certainly made a healthy comeback as we have had an influx of Goliath Grouper videos like you wouldn’t believe.

And if you have somehow been hiding under a rock and don’t know much about these Goliath Grouper, these fish can get incredibly massive, and they are incredibly challenging to actually land next to your boat (as they break rods, lines, take you down in structure, etc).

In fact, these Goliath Grouper are kind of like how hunting down a massive bear could be on the ultimate bucket list hunt for an avid hunter, landing a Goliath Grouper is one of those “bucket list” fish for many avid saltwater anglers.

But don’t think for a second that catching a Goliath Grouper is just for men.

The women anglers out there are showing they can land these big fish just as well as any man!
