Can You Guess How Many Spots This Rare Leopard Redfish Has? Find Out Now.
Ever caught a leopard redfish before?
Chances are good that most us of haven’t.
Well, this week Capt. Eddie Berthelot Jr. of Golden Meadow, Louisiana had the catch of his life!
A very rare “Leopard Redfish.”
As you can imagine, an inshore fishing captain in Louisiana like Capt. Eddie has caught a ton of redfish in his life.
But never anything like this.
In fact, he had this to say in his recent interview to the Louisiana Sportsman:
“When I set the hook on him, he jumped about halfway out the water and I almost threw up because I was so excited,” said Berthelot, who operates Spots and Specks Charters. “I’ve been waiting for a good redfish mount forever, and when I set the hook I knew it was a mount — that’s how much of his body came out the water.”
After landing the leopard red and taking it in for taxidermy, they took the time to count all of the spots.
- 342 on one side
- 328 on the other side
- For a combined spot count of 670 redfish spots!
Enough to win any redfish spot tournament in the country!
Notes from the captain:
- The fish was caught using live cocahoe minnow on a Kahle hook under a popping cork.
- He was fishing in less than 3 feet of water
- The temp was around 40 degrees
- The leopard red came in at 28.5 inches long
- Estimated 9 pounds
