Our friend Captain Jeff Maggio (aka Lunkerdog) knows how to get people on Tarpon without a doubt!

A couple of weeks ago he surprised the heck of a 10-year old kid by helping him land a 150lb tarpon after a 2-hour fight on his birthday (you can watch that video here).

Then he did what could be considered the most honorable and coolest thing we have seen in the fishing world by handing his 125lb freshly hooked tarpon to a random guy on the sea wall to experience the fight for himself (you can watch that video here).

And then this week he creates an amazing experience for this kid named Brandon, who fought this awesome tarpon for over an hour and a half.

Heck, even the cruise ship captain wanted to come in close for a look… and we can’t blame him.

Run that Dog…

We have seen Tarpon do some pretty amazing jumps.

Heck, we recently posted two different videos where Tarpon jumped clear into the boat (if you didn’t see “How to land a Tarpon without touching it, click here. And if you didn’t see “The mere sound of Blair Wiggins has tarpon jumping in the boat”, click here).

In what can only be described as something you will probably never see in person, Blair Wiggins and the D.O.A. Lures creator, Capt. Mark Nichols, hook a small tarpon that jumps right up on the dock, and then flops over the on the other side back in the water.

Classic Throwback clip from Captain Blair Wiggins of Addictive Fishing.

We have enjoyed watching Blair Wiggins of Addictive Fishing catch fish for a long time.

We even featured him on the home page of Salt Strong a few times in the past (like this video: “Monster Trout on Topwater with Blair Wiggins).

But somehow we missed this gem of a clip where the mere sound of Blair Wiggins’ voice has this Tarpon jumping right into the boat as he did with Captain Billy Henderson’s Homosassa Tarpon.

Amazing job of getting the tarpon in the boat so fast, and for a safe recovery.

This is pretty awesome Snook fishing!

On a fishing trip to Costa Rica many years ago, we were going after monster snook up on some cliffs that overlooked the ocean. I can still recall the local guy (our guide) that was up there with a handline (30 feet above the water) trying to catch a 40lb snook (he caught one on rod and reel later that week).

Even though he didn’t catch anything huge up there that evening, I can still recall being fascinated watching him fish more effectively that most rod and reel anglers with a handline. He had truly mastered the art.

Well this guy in the video below appears to have a similar gift for the art of handline fishing. Fishing a seawall in Biscayne Bay (Miami), this kayak angler lands a nice snook without ever having to touch a rod or reel!

In fact, he makes it look pretty easy (which it is not).

Well done my man!

P.S. – Big thanks (and Happy Birthday) to Salt Strong member (in Hawaii) Nic Turner for sending in this video

Just when you think you have seen it all in terms of tarpon fishing videos, this video takes fly-fishing for tarpon to a whole new level…

These “underwater tarpon fishing” guys not only shocked the heck out of us with this video, but they also most likely set a New World Record for Tarpon Fishing:

Sight-Casting, Hooking, Fighting, and Landing a Tarpon Without Ever Setting Foot On Land Or Boat!!!!

I would have loved to have been around the bar or kitchen table when these guys were having a beer to discuss this idea of doing “Underwater Tarpon Fishing” (aka catching a tarpon while fly fishing underwater).

Who would have thought this would ever work! Simply speechless!

Disclaimer: We sincerely apologize for the cursing in this video and we hope that you can ignore it to focus on the amazing footage. It was simply too awesome of footage to not share this.

This will probably be the coolest thing you see all day!!!

I know that it was for me…

Who would never have guessed in a hundred years that someone would be catching a Snook while soaring on a water jet pack (aka flyboard – aka jetlev).

Well this guy named Hunter Skipper not only thought it could happen, he set out to prove it in this freaking amazing snook video.

Hunter shows us how it is done as he lands a nice snook while up in the air, moving around like a branch in a hurricane, all from the “comfort” of his water jet flyboard.

This is certainly flyboard snook fishing at its finest (simply because we have no other flyboard fishing videos to compare it to).

If you like it as much as we did, PLEASE SHARE it with a friend (or two). You Rock! Pow!

I was born and raised in Florida, so of course I am a bit partial to believing that our amazing Sunshine State has the best overall fishing in terms of:

  • Choice: Because Florida has so much waterfront land, the choices on places to fish (saltwater and freshwater) certainly can’t be matched by any other state
  • Species: There are more species of fish to catch in and around the shores of Florida than any other state (in my humble opinion). That goes for saltwater and freshwater fishing.
  • Opportunities: You can usually fish pretty much year round (without having to drill holes in ice…)

But I read an article in the recent Florida Sportsman Magazine called “Road Trip To Venice”. The article described one of the best places to fish in the Gulf of Mexico… Venice, Louisiana. It even went on to mention that some of their most common visitors are Florida anglers!

Louisiana Fishing vs Florida Fishing

So that got me thinking… perhaps Louisiana is a pretty darn solid place to fish, and not just a place I went for bachelor parties and Mardi Gras while I was in college…

But I still wasn’t completely convinced…

Then over this past weekend, one of our Salt Strong Members (thanks Josh Veeck) sent us this Louisiana inshore video that was too amazing to ignore.

And I have to admit, I was pretty darn impressed with Louisiana fishing. I have caught a ton of redfish in my life, but I have yet to fish in a school of reds as thick and as abundant as that.

My Personal Vote & Conclusion

Although this video below should give any inshore angler goosebumps, I still think Florida has a fishing edge over any state in terms of overall fishing… including Louisiana.

But at the end of the day I am just one vote.

What do you think?

Please let us know what state you believe has the best fishing in the comment section after you finish the video:

Louisiana or Florida?

P.S. – Amazing video Stellwagen Media!

Normally, landing a tarpon is one of the toughest things about tarpon fishing. Because as any tarpon angler knows that when tarpon

Because as any tarpon angler knows, if the tarpon are biting, it isn’t incredibly difficult to jump a tarpon…

However getting the tarpon to stay on the line long enough to land it can be an entirely different story…

Check out this amazing video where a guy sight fishes a Tarpon with a Fly rod, miraculously keeps him out of the mangroves, and then for a grand finale…

The Tarpon jumps in the boat!

Folks, we have found the “Tarpon Whisperer”.

Lucky for these guys, the Tarpon wasn’t 150lbs…

Enjoy.

It’s Tarpon Time!

Over the past couple of years, we have seen a bunch of great tarpon footage from Boca Grande, Florida (the Tarpon capital of the world).

Heck, we have been a part of some of them as Luke and I grew up fishing around Little Gasparilla Island and Boca Grande, and we have caught and jumped some great tarpon ourselves.

But we believe that this tarpon video takes the cake.

These guys didn’t hold anything back! They threw in amazing drone footage showing the massive school of tarpon in and around the pass, they got some epic close-up footage of some monster tarpon, and they land

They threw in amazing drone footage showing the massive school of tarpon in and around the pass, they got some epic close-up footage of some monster tarpon, and they land tarpon on the beach, on land, and on boat.

They even threw in a couple of SLOB snook just for good measure (icing on the cake). Amazing footage Light Tackle Charters and crew!

If this doesn’t get you FIRED UP for Tarpon season, then there is simply nothing that will…
