The Story Of How This Online Fishing Club Attracted 27,000 Members In Record Time…

“Find the fish. Find the fish. Find the fish.”

When my brother Luke and I decided to try our luck at inshore saltwater fishing, finding the fish was our main goal. We grew up as avid largemouth bass fishermen in central Florida, so we knew that if we could just find em’, we could catch em’.

But there was a big PROBLEM

Simply finding the fish wasn’t so simple.

In fact, when we started saltwater fishing years ago, we felt hopeless after more trips than I care to recall. We just couldn’t seem to FIND any redfish, snook, or trout that would hit our baits!

RUDE AWAKENING: Finding The Fish In Saltwater Was a LOT Tougher
Than Finding Fish In Freshwater!

Saltwater fishing wasn’t like bass fishing where we knew every piece of structure in the small lakes we always fished.

With saltwater, we now had to deal with tides, multiple species (that all behaved differently), plus vast open flats and endless lines of mangrove trees that all looked the same to us.

Heck, even the saltwater catfish were different… slimy as heck, and a sting that won’t seem to go away! And don’t even get me started on pinfish, lizardfish, and pufferfish destroying our baits!

We might as well have been fishing in another country!

Long story short, we felt lost (and a tad embarrassed) that we couldn’t consistently catch inshore fish such as redfish, speckled trout, snook, and flounder like we could largemouth bass.

Every once in a while we’d have a great day… believing for a brief moment that we’d figured it out. Inevitably, it was almost always followed up by a couple of skunk days or frustrating days (unless you count catfish, ladyfish, lizardfish, and puffers as trophies…)

So what did we do?

We Looked For HELP So We Could
Find MORE Fish In LESS Time

We did what any smart person does when they want to improve or master something. We looked for HELP!

But not just any help… we wanted to maximize our time on the water.

Why?

Because if you’re anything like me, we’re all incredibly busy people, right? We’ve got jobs and errands and lives and families and pets and responsibilities. We don’t have endless time to figure things out the hard way…

We value our TIME!

We want SHORTCUTS (who doesn’t?)

So it was absolutely critical that we shorten the learning curve as fast as possible, so we could maximize every precious minute we have on the water.

Here were the 3 main things we started searching for in our quest to master inshore saltwater fishing:

  1. Real-time on-the-water video footage of real anglers fishing in real fishing spots (so that we could see exactly how they fished an area, why they picked that area, what type of structure and depth was best for every season, and how to dial in the trends so that we could finally FIND THE FISH!)
  2. Shortcuts and cheat sheets that would tell us what days and tides would give us our best shot at catching inshore slams (and what lures and rigs to use for each situation)
  3. The ability to ask questions to the instructor and/or a community of other fishermen, so we could get quick answers from experts who were on the water every week.

Can you guess what we found???

NOTHING! (at least not in one easy-to-find place)!

Assuming you can’t afford to pay a guide every week (which would cost you around $41,000 if you fished once per week) there were only three “how-to catch more fish” outlets available to the average angler back then:

  • Fishing Magazines
  • Fishing TV Shows
  • YouTube

Fishing Magazines Exist To Sell Ads
NOT To Help Fishermen

Like many others, our journey started off by looking for help in the fishing magazines.

But there was a BIG PROBLEM with fishing magazines…

More than 70% of all magazines were nothing but advertisements! The tips were super generic (and certainly not real-time, when you consider the tip was written at least 90 days prior to hitting your mailbox).

Plus, it was evident that all of the magazines were more advertiser-focused than fisherman-focused. It didn’t take long to realize that magazines were not our answer.

Fishing TV Shows Are All
Highlight Reels, Product Placements
And Almost NO Useful Advice

Next, we started watching fishing TV shows.

But we quickly found the BIG PROBLEM with fishing TV shows…

The shows were fun and entertaining, but they weren’t very helpful for actually finding fish. Way back in the Bill Dance days, fishing shows were education first. But these days, fishing shows are basically a 3-day highlight reel of some fish catching – combined with product placements and promoting their sponsors – all jammed into a 21-minute episode. The host would show their rigs and tackle, but they never showed the exact spots they were fishing – and they left out all of the critical details on exactly how to find the fish.

Not to mention, these shows are filmed at least 9 months in advance, so it’s never real-time. By the time we saw the episode on TV, the fish were in a different zip code! Before too long we realized that fishing TV shows weren’t the answer either.

YouTube Is a GIANT MESS of Fragmented, Conflicting Tips & Tricks That Never Really Give You The WHOLE Picture

Then came YouTube.

At first, we thought this was the answer to finally helping us find the fish.

YouTube had endless videos, tutorials, how-to’s, and even some on-the-water fishing tips. It seemed like every minute there was a new fishing video being uploaded. New fishing “YouTubers” were coming out of the woodwork, seemingly overnight.

But, this was also the BIGGEST PROBLEM with YouTube:

INFORMATION OVERLOAD + CONFLICTING TACTICS = CONFUSED FISHERMEN

Let me give you an actual example of why YouTube is NOT the answer.

A while ago we went to YouTube and typed in, “How to catch redfish.”

You wouldn’t think there could be too many videos on this, right?

WRONG!!

Take a guess at how many total videos showed up for that one search…

196,000.

That’s not a typo.

196,000 different videos on how to catch redfish!!!

Assuming each video was 5 minutes on average, it would take you over TWO YEARS to watch every single video (that assumes you watched redfish videos 24 hours a day and never slept, ate, or went fishing again).

Not only that, if you watched just the first 10 videos, you’d be so confused that you’d probably want to give up fishing and take up knitting (not that there’s anything wrong with that…)

If it’s still not 100% clear, here’s why YouTube is NOT the answer to helping you find the fish…

YouTube’s downfall is that it has TOO much information from TOO many random people in NO particular order.

Instead of being easy to understand, YouTube is incredibly fragmented, super inconsistent, and never reveals the entire puzzle.

YouTube does NOT teach everything you truly need to know to find and catch fish (from pre-trip planning to how to position and approach the spot, to how to know exactly what lure or live bait to use for every depth and type of area, etc) in a comprehensive, easy to understand FORMULA.

A Proven, Comprehensive, Easy-To-Understand Formula For Consistently Finding Inshore Saltwater Fish Didn’t Exist …

…So We Built It Ourselves

So you might be wondering what we did next…

Since a proven formula for consistently finding inshore saltwater fish didn’t exist anywhere on the Internet, we decided to create one.

Our goal was to become experts at inshore fishing, and then build out the 3 things that we wished existed when we were struggling to become consistent anglers.

Here they are again:

  1. Real-time on the water video footage of real anglers fishing in real fishing spots (so that we could see exactly how they fished an area, why they picked that area, what type of structure and depth was best for every season, and how to dial in the trends so that we could finally FIND THE FISH!)
  2. Shortcuts and cheat sheets that would tell us what days and tides would give us our best shot at catching inshore slams (and what lures and rigs to use for each situation)
  3. The ability to ask questions to the instructor and/or a community of other fishermen so we could get quick answers from experts who were on the water every week.

Luke Spent Almost 10 Years Developing The FORMULA For Catching Redfish, Sea Trout & Snook Year-Round

My brother Luke spent the better part of a decade dialing in a repeatable FORMULA based on tides, weather, wind, and trends to catch inshore slams 365 days per year.

He fished with pros to pick their brains, he competed against full-time guides in tournaments (and even won money against many of them), and he continued to dial in his process for finding the fish by fishing like a madman every free chance he could get.

He logged every trip and tracked every fish catch against the tides, barometric pressure, temperature, wind direction, and more.

And he got good at finding the fish.

REALLY GOOD.

Eventually, people were coming to my brother for HELP (and he started to become known locally as one of the best teachers around).

We Were Ready To Share Luke’s Inshore
Saltwater Fishing FORMULA With The World …

… But Doing It RIGHT Would Cost Us Everything.

Before too long, my brother Luke and I were forced to make the toughest decision of our lives…

We knew we wanted to pursue building a fishing club that would help anglers catch more fish, but we also knew we couldn’t do it the right way if we held on to our full-time jobs.

So after many evenings of prayer, we quit our 6-figure jobs in the financial services industry and made a pact to build the best online fishing club for saltwater anglers ever created.

We knew we needed something completely NEW and DIFFERENT (not just better). Bottom line, the old ways of learning how to find the fish just weren’t working for the busy angler of today.

We knew we needed a shareable FORMULA that anyone could use to consistently find fish all year long (even brand new anglers in brand new areas).

We knew we needed something FRESH with REAL-TIME data, ON-THE-WATER fishing tips, a focus on TRENDS, and new technology that would give us weekend warriors the shortcuts we needed to find the fish.

We also knew we couldn’t be like magazines that serve advertisers.

And it couldn’t be like fishing tv shows who serve sponsors.

And it couldn’t be like YouTubers who serve YouTube ads.

It had to be a club built by anglers that served anglers.

That’s what led us to create the Salt Strong “INSIDER” Club back in mid-2016.

Our First 100 Members Had AMAZING Results …
And Then It Grew Like CRAZY!

It started off with just 100 members (invitation only).

We shared our fish-finding formula with them and their fish-catching SKYROCKETED.

Then we invited more people – in short time, we had 500 members in the Insider club.

What was really amazing was to see all of the different types of saltwater anglers who loved the club – from ex-bass fishing anglers like us, to newbies to weekend warriors to many full-time guides.

Moreover, the club was working for our members – regardless of whether they fished from a bay boat, a skiff, a kayak, wading boots, or tennis shoes.

It continued to grow by word of mouth, and before we knew it, we had members from Texas to Florida to Virginia (and everywhere in between) who were raving about how much time (and money) the Salt Strong Insider Club was saving them.

I vividly remember where I was when we officially hit 2,000 members (I was on a boat filming an Insider tip).  It was one of those moments when we knew we were on to something special.

The following year we more than doubled to 5,000 members.

Then 10,000 members!

A year later, 20,000 members!

Today We Have Over 27,000 Members Of All Different Skill Levels (From Newbies To Weekend Warriors To Fishing Guides)

And as I write this, we are officially over 27,000 members (with 50+ new members joining every day).

As we’ve continued to grow, we’ve added on some really cool benefits (including huge tackle discounts, more full-time coaches, more fish-finding shortcuts, a private online community, and much much more).

However, the 3 foundational problems we solve for our members 365 days a year remain the same.
