Holy Flounder Attack!

Just wait until you see some of the strikes this flounder/fluke angler John Skinner caught on film!

It sucked me right in after the first hit at the 35-second mark.

If you like catching flounder, the intel in this video is priceless (to help you understand just how aggressive these fish are).

This epic underwater footage of flounder fishing with bucktail jigs was captured in 25 ft, which makes this video even more impressive.

In addition to the bucktail jigs, a 2nd bait used was a jighead with a Berkley Gulp on it, so make sure to stick around for the full video.

You can definitely learn a lot about flounder behavior and how they eat by watching this awesome flounder footage.

Enjoy the video, and great job John!

Let us know when you have more underwater footage like this.

Note: All footage in this video was done in Long Island Sound.

For those of you that love fishing (and eating) Cobia, this video is going to be bittersweet.

Why?

Because although this is certainly the largest school of Cobia the world has ever seen, there are no fishing poles allowed in the area where they live.

Why is life so cruel?

What is going on here is a company called Open Blue, founded by Brian O’Hanlon, set out to Panama to create the world’s largest open-ocean fish farm.

And boy did they ever!

Just wait until you see all of the Cobia in this video.

Why Cobia you ask?

According to their website, a single 7-oz serving of their open water Cobia has the same Omega 3 as 67 7-oz servings of rib-eye steak.

Pretty cool.

And if you haven’t eaten Cobia before, you are missing out. One of my favorite fish to eat.

Keep up the great work Open Blue! We love cobia here at Salt Strong, and we will be happy to taste test it whenever you need help…

Enjoy

Holy School Of Redfish!

Ever since we posted the video, “The Biggest School of Redfish Ever Captured On Film?” (watch it here), we have been trying to find redfish videos that would beat it.

We had a couple of video submissions from Salt Strong subscribers with some epic redfish footage, but no one ever sent us anything like you are about to see below.

A Massive School of Redfish captured on an underwater camera.

According to the video notes, this was all filmed at St. Andrews State Park near Panama City Beach.

Ever seen this many redfish underwater?

Let us know in the comments.

Fish On!

Holy Goliath Grouper Honey Hole!

After watching countless videos of anglers pulling up Goliath Grouper in and around the famous old phosphate dock at Boca Grande, I always knew that there must be a bunch of them down there.

And after fishing around this area many times and getting broken off in the pilings, I knew there must have been tons of grouper down there…

But I had no idea it was packed wall to wall with them.

Make sure to watch the entire video to see just how big this school of Goliath Grouper really is.

Wowzers!

The diver, explorer, and photographer David Vanden Bosch (aka Diver Dave) was the guy who captured all of this amazing footage last month while down at the bottom of the old Boca Grande Phosphate Dock.

To say that those old pillars were LOADED with fish is an understatement.

Not only did he find what could be the world record Goliath Grouper hideout, but he also saw snook, snapper, spadefish, and even a toadfish!

Great job David! Thank you for sharing this amazing dive with us.

I know there are countless anglers that have always wondered what the view was like down there.

Enjoy.

Could you imagine catching an 18-POUND Mangrove Snapper?

I think for most of us, we would love to catch a 5-pound mangrove snapper.

Well spearfishing stud Cameron Kirkconnell not only has proof these huge snapper exist, but he has gone down to snapper honey holes like the one in this video (this is somewhere on the east coast of Florida) and plucked world records with his spear.

And if you don’t know 13-time World Record Spearfishing “Champion” Cameron Kirkconnell, you should get to know him.

The guy is one of the most talented spearfishing experts the world have ever seen, and he is just getting started on breaking records and changing the world of spearfishing.

Make sure to check out his super entertaining and hilarious interview we did with him here.

Talk about every spearfisherman’s worst nightmare…

An unprovoked bull shark cruising right at you with open jaws!

You have mere split seconds to react… what do you do?

It’s tough to say what any of us would have done in this situation, but here is how it played out for Danny Hendricks of Liquid Vision.

Some people were angry he pulled the trigger, while others say he had no choice as the aggressive bull shark was not backing down even after a spear gun was down his throat.

Looking through the somewhat controversial comments on this new YouTube video, here was one revealing another diver’s similar experience when he didn’t have a speargun:

“Yes, this exact scenario happened to me four years ago, the only difference is that I didn’t have a speargun so I was bitten in the calf area. I made it to the surface with only one fin. Today I can walk and dive almost normally again. Never underestimate sharks, they are unpredictable wild animals.”

What do you think?

Let’s face it, not all of us will spear a 55lb grouper in our lifetimes…

In fact, most of us (including me) would be thrilled to catch a 55lb grouper on a rod and reel, let alone spear one in 50+ feet of water.

Note: Luke released a really helpful “How To Make A Grouper Rig” linked here if you haven’t yet seen it.

So when I saw this Italian diver named Sebastiano Rosalba sneaking up on a big grouper and then planting his spear right in his head, I had to share it.

I can’t think of a better way to live vicariously through an amazing spearfishing feat like this than watching it from his GoPro view.

Well done!

Enjoy.

Can you count all of the different species in this video?

Wow!

The toughest part about this spearfishing video was trying to pick out the best thumbnail as there were so many of them to choose from.

This guy (Diego Santiago) clearly knows where to find the fish.

There were a couple of times when he couldn’t pull the trigger because there were actually too many fish in the school.

Even had a few whales come into close view towards the end.

And the tuna hopping over the log to get bait at the very end was epic!

Check it out.

Holy Snook School!

Spearfisherman Justin Buehler recently went diving in the Miami inlet (the edge of the inlet dredge) to do some spearfishing and came across this massive school of spawning snook!

Talk about a snook honey hole!

See if you can find the hogfish and a few grouper in the mix.

Do you have any footage of monster schools of snook like this?

Let us know as we’d love to feature it.

Enjoy.
