I was born and raised in Florida, so of course I am a bit partial to believing that our amazing Sunshine State has the best overall fishing in terms of:
- Choice: Because Florida has so much waterfront land, the choices on places to fish (saltwater and freshwater) certainly can’t be matched by any other state
- Species: There are more species of fish to catch in and around the shores of Florida than any other state (in my humble opinion). That goes for saltwater and freshwater fishing.
- Opportunities: You can usually fish pretty much year round (without having to drill holes in ice…)
But I read an article in the recent Florida Sportsman Magazine called “Road Trip To Venice”. The article described one of the best places to fish in the Gulf of Mexico… Venice, Louisiana. It even went on to mention that some of their most common visitors are Florida anglers!
Louisiana Fishing vs Florida Fishing
So that got me thinking… perhaps Louisiana is a pretty darn solid place to fish, and not just a place I went for bachelor parties and Mardi Gras while I was in college…
But I still wasn’t completely convinced…
Then over this past weekend, one of our Salt Strong Members (thanks Josh Veeck) sent us this Louisiana inshore video that was too amazing to ignore.
And I have to admit, I was pretty darn impressed with Louisiana fishing. I have caught a ton of redfish in my life, but I have yet to fish in a school of reds as thick and as abundant as that.
My Personal Vote & Conclusion
Although this video below should give any inshore angler goosebumps, I still think Florida has a fishing edge over any state in terms of overall fishing… including Louisiana.
But at the end of the day I am just one vote.
What do you think?
