Is there anything worse than sitting through a boring board meeting at work?

I sat through many in my 13 years in the financial services world, and I don’t miss meetings at all!

In fact, our Salt Strong meetings are fun, quick, and shoes optional these days…

And isn’t that really how all board meeting should be?

Wouldn’t life be less stressful and fulfilling if board meetings were all fun?

We can only dream…. we can only dream…

On a serious note, the marketing team at YOLO boards absolutely crushed it on this video!

Well done YOLO.

Enjoy… and remember this video the next time you are snoring through a boring board meeting…

Kayak fishing has come a long way in the past 10 years…

I can recall the first time I saw an angler catch a monster shark from a kayak…

And then a tarpon, and then a sailfish, and so on…

Well, apparently the folks over at the Discovery Channel noticed too, as they have an upcoming TV show around this growing kayak fishing phenomenon called “Pacific Warriors”.

In this brand new fishing show (Premiers Oct 23 at 10pm EST on Discovery), they follow around 11 male kayak anglers and one female kayak angler as they attempt to land some of the biggest game fish in all of Hawaii.

Check out just some of the monster fish they catch in this awesome trailer.

Enjoy.

I think the only worse vessel to be on while a Great White Shark circles you would be a surfboard…

Fortunately for these two kayak anglers (Theuns Botha and his friend) they were fishing together and were able to tie up next to each other to form a more “unflippable” kayak.

Not to mention appear bigger to the shark.

And even though this Great White Shark might have just been “curious”, that’s much easier to say for someone watching a video than actually being just a foot away from a 12ft shark while sitting on a light kayak…

Good job of remaining cool gents.

Note: This footage was from Hartenbos, South Africa.

Every surfer knows that you never steal someone else’s wave…

And if you do, prepared to get slammed off of your board!

Check out what happens when a dolphin is riding a wave and sees a paddleboarder in his way!

Good thing these dolphin have lightning fast reflexes or this paddleboarder could have seriously been hurt. By the way, did you notice how the dolphin is basically curving his body in mid-air to avoid seriously hurting the guy?

Pretty awesome!

Big thanks to Jason Luongo of Southern Fin Apparel for sending this one over.

This kayak launch fail is in honor of Labor Day…

The end of the summer weekend when all of the “Googans” come out of the woodwork to clog up the waterways, boat ramps, and fishing spots.

Yesterday I watched a guy and his girlfriend take 25 minutes to launch of small gheenoe from a trailer that should have taken no more than 3 minutes (they could have picked it up and dropped it in quicker).

Everything they did was textbook wrong…

But nothing compares to this kayak launch fail below!

I won’t ruin it for you, but definitely watch all the way until the end.

Just when you think he is about to make it, things take a turn for the worse… again.

Enjoy and be safe out there on the water!

And if you are ever in a similar situation, try launching your kayak away from the jetty where the waves are…

P.P.S. – So what do you think? Should the guy filming have helped out or was it too late by time he realized the kayak angler had no business being out there? Let us know in the comments.

We have seen some crazy tarpon jumps that end up with the tarpon flopping around in the boat, but haven’t seen a close call like this in a kayak yet!

And we can only imagine kayak angler Kyle Hendren was bracing himself for a head-on collision with this tarpon. But then again, it all happened so fast, I bet Kyle was asking himself, “Did that really just happen?”

I would love to know if he finally landed the nice tarpon, but either way, amazing footage of this tarpon and Kyle coming eye to eye.

And fast thinking in terms of getting the rod out of the way!

Enjoy!

Back by popular demand… Joey Antonelli!

If you don’t know Joey, he was the diver in the crazy Viral fishing video where the “Triggerfish bites him in the Family Jewels” (you can watch that video here if you never saw it).

In this new video below, Joey has another run of bad luck while he goes cast netting for some pogies on his SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) while tarpon fishing in South Florida.

After a nice cast from his paddleboard (which isn’t easy if you have never done it), Joey starts to pull in the cast net and notices that it is a bit heavier than usual…

He quickly notices that all of the pogies are moving to one side, and the next thing he notices is he has a HUGE HOLE in his cast net!

I won’t ruin it for, but you might want to watch this video more than once!

I hate it for this guy!

There is nothing worse than being out on the water when a Florida lightning storm sneaks up on you out of nowhere.

And I know from personal experience how miserable it is trying to outrun a fast moving Florida storm in a boat, but I can’t imagine having to do it in a kayak.

Good news is he lived to tell the tale!

Here are the notes from this wild lightning footage that made ABC News:

Erik Walasek told ABC News today that he always has his GoPro set up on a pole in his kayak when he goes fishing in the mangroves in Aripeka, Florida, and on the afternoon of Aug. 15, he recorded much more than just a few red fish catches.

“Before we went out, it was clear skies and down here it literally changes from clear skies to clouds to storms,” he said of the day that he filmed the video while fishing with his friend.

“In the summer, the storms literally pop up wherever they want to,” said Walasek, a 30-year-old plastics manufacturer.

Our friends over the Redington (the popular fly fishing company) put together a really cool 6-piece video series called “Find Your Water” (you can see all 6 of the videos here).

In these “Find Your Water” short fishing videos, Redington fly fishing ambassadors get to tell their stories and show the world why they love fly fishing so much.

One of the six videos was called “Blue Collar Salt”. It is an awesome video about Redington Ambassador Alex Tejada, a die-hard fly fishing, tarpon loving, blue collar, kayak angler.

Check out his story and the amazing tarpon video he put together.

Tarpon On!
