We’ve all probably thought about quitting our job to pursue our passion for fishing, but how many people actually pull the trigger?

Well, this guy, Robert Field, decided a year ago that he didn’t belong in a traditional office anymore.

His believed his love for kayak fishing was his calling, so he quit his 9-5 and has been pursuing a full-time living as a kayak fisherman.

Here is Robert with a monster fish on during his first year as a full-time kayak fisherman.

Wondering how life is panning out for him since he took a risk and started fishing full time?

Well, not only has Robert been able to travel the world to catch fish, but he also has a successful kayak channel on Scout.com (called YakFish.tv), and he is president of the kayak bass series.

And you can’t beat his tagline: “Pursuing what matters.”

Keep up the great work Robert.

Enjoy these highlights from 2016.

4-year old Kellan Hunt has done it again…

Talk about putting on a fishing clinic.

In just one afternoon this little guy lands more snook than many adults will land in an entire year… all from a stand-up paddleboard!

Check out how many snook and trout he lands while out fishing with his dad (Courtland Hunt from the viral Glock lionfish video) and his legendary inshore guide Capt. Scott Moore.

I think we can all agree that we need more young kids like this getting involved in fishing. Makes me smile seeing how much this young man loves the sport.

More tackle boxes and fewer Xboxes!

Enjoy.

Ever been kayak fishing for bull redfish at night?

Check out what our friend Brandon Barton and a couple of clients got into the other night.

Talk about some nice redfish!

And these were all caught on artificial lures (white jerk baits – see below):

Pretty awesome!

What’s the biggest redfish you’ve caught at night from a yak?

Holy Humpback Whale Breach!

This almost seemed like it was something out of a movie, but this was 100% real.

Check out how close this whale breach was to these kayaks in the BC area.

The funny part is that they thought the first whale breach was the “grand finale”…

Boy, were they in for a surprise.

Even the camera operator in the kayak couldn’t hold on to the GoPro.

Enjoy.

Just when you thought paddle board fishing was only for inshore fishing and the occasional tarpon or sailfish off the beach…

Just wait until you see this awesome fight (and amazing jump by the fish) in the video below.

And if the angler looks familiar, it’s because Joey Antonelli has made the front page of Salt Strong again…

I believe this marks his 5th appearance in the past year. Of course, this time, it’s from a stand-up paddleboard (although he understandably was sitting down on the board for most of the fight/sleigh ride).

Much different than his first video of getting bitten in the family jewel region by a triggerfish (you can see that video here)

At either rate, great job of capturing this footage, of NOT wasting live bait, and landing a kingfish on a SUP without any casualties.

Enjoy.

Perhaps it just me, but I try to avoid sticking my feet off my kayak when I know big bull sharks are nearby…

Check out the bull shark blitz on this kayak angler’s bonita.

This hungry shark comes back three times trying to get more.

Meet one of the fastest and most unique kayaks ever made…

The Stik Boat.

According to the Stik Boat Facebook page, the Stik boat is:

  • Part kayak
  • Part personal watercraft
  • Part skiff
  • and part bass boat all rolled up into one

If it looks somewhat familiar, a few months back we published a blog about a jet-propelled kayak that went 32 MPH (you can see it here).

However, that was a different brand, different manufacturer, and according to multiple sources, it had trouble going 32 MPH and needed a few other tweaks that needed addressing.

So the guys over at Stik Boats decided to fix all of the issues and created what they believe is the ideal jet-driven kayak.

Here are a few features of this amazing Stik Boat:

  • 17.5 hp four-stroke engine
  • Electric start engine with 3.7-gallon fuel capacity, 35-40 mile range, and a full two hours of full-throttle operation
  • Jet-driven pump designed exclusively for this boat with a special coolant system to eliminate problems with running saltwater or dirty water through the system
  • Weight of Stik Boat: 250 lbs

What do you think about these Stik boats shown in the video below?

Would you buy one?

According to the Stik Boat website, the MSRP is $6850

Two Words…

REDFISH STRONG.

Our friend Brandon Barton is probably one of the best saltwater kayak anglers in the state of Florida.

And this video proves it.

Most anglers would have lost this redfish long before the 1:00-minute mark of this fight.

But not Brandon. The dude just wouldn’t give up on this fish…

From getting completely out of his kayak to having his line wrapped around debris under the dock, this is certainly a catch he will never forget.

Thank goodness he had his GoPros filming.

What an insane battle! Great job Brandon. You are certainly Redfish Strong!

Enjoy.

I remember loving to hit up the Crystal River and Homosassa Springs area as a kid because our parents would take us on the glass-bottom boat tours to see everything below the surface.

As a young kid it was so cool to see the fish, manatees, and other marine life down below while we sat up in the boat.

Well, fast forward til’ today and there is a company that came out with a “glass-bottom kayak”.

The company is called “Crystal Kayak Company,” and the entire kayak is see through.

It’s pretty cool, but the one thing I do see that is missing are some rod holders…

I’ve got to admit, it would be pretty sweet to see the fish under the kayak while fishing the flats or any clear water.

You could be on to something here Crystal Kayak, but if you want to really attract a bunch of anglers, then add some rod holders in your next round of yaks.

Enjoy the video below.
