What do you do when you live in a small harbour town with no place to build a traditional boat ramp?

You improvise by investing in heavy duty tractors that can launch your boats right off the beach!

This is the Shelly Beach Ski-Boat Club in South Africa.

They love boating, they love fishing, and they love making an entrance…

Make sure you stick around until the end to see how they bring the boats back up!

Awesome.

Can you imagine having to do this every time you went fishing?

I bet they’ve seen a few accidents…

Enjoy.

Can’t back your boat down?

No problem.

Just find a beach with hard sand, a gradual slope, and a truck that does well in waste-deep water…

Not exactly sure why you would ever go head first in with your truck, but I sure am glad someone captured it all on film.

I just wish we could see how he gets the boat back on the trailer.

Think he goes back in head first?

Either way, enjoy.

Note: I’m not exactly sure what this form of launching a boat is called, but the first thing that came to my head was “backwards reverse” because it confused me just thinking about it…

Wow!!!

I can’t believe this was actually caught on film…

What are the chances?

And what are the chances the owner was just a couple feet away from the boat washing it down when the entire boat lift decided to give out?

Here’s what I know: This could have been a whole lot worse…

The guy could have been in the boat, there could have been kids or grandkids in there, etc…

What happened?

I imagine the boat lift failure was either due to bananas being on the boat or a sloppy install… but either way, at least this boat owner has some proof of what happened.

Glad no one was hurt, and well done from the owner of jumping in the boat and taking control like a champ!

Enjoy.

Note: This was in Lighthouse Point, Florida.

Talk about a Salt STRONG ship!

I think we all know that the U.S. War Ships are built tough, but did you know that they go through multiple underwater explosion tests before ever being deployed?

Check out the 10,000-pound explosion that was recently caught on film while doing one of these tests.

Here are the notes from the video:

In June, the Navy began conducting Full Ship Shock Trials (FSST) for the Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ship USS Jackson (LCS 6) off the coast of Florida. The purpose of FSST is to validate the operational survivability of new construction ships after exposure to underwater shock. Three tests were scheduled for the ship and each test was conducted with a 10,000-pound explosive charge.

On Saturday July 16, USS Jackson (LCS 6) was subjected to the third and final underwater explosion as part of her FSST. There were reports of increased seismic activity around the time of the test. The ship performed exceptionally well, sustaining minimal damage and returned to port under her own power. A large amount of data was collected during FSST on the majority of shipboard systems and the Navy will compile and analyze the data over the next several months.

Pretty awesome to see it up close.

And one heck of a strong ship!

Enjoy.

Back when I was growing up, my dad was really into boats (and he still is to this day).

And every time one of his boats would break down or have issues, he would always tell us boys that we are better off never owning a boat… instead, just find best friends that all own boats…

Well, I couldn’t agree with him more after seeing this adventure yacht known simply as, Ulysses.

Now I just have to find out who owns it and becomes friends with them. Haha.

Check out some of the pics from the inside and then watch the epic video that TC Media put together showing a “typical day” on the yacht.

Talk about state of the art! The captain of this yacht must love his job!

What do you think?

Would you like to spend a day (or a year) on this amazing yacht?

And by the way, the Ulysses is for sale (click here to see more pics from our friends over at Ocean of News)

You’ve probably seen people loading kayaks and paddleboards on top of a car or truck, but have you ever seen a pontoon boat up on top?

Not long ago, someone in our private Facebook group (the Salt Strong Fishing Tribe) posted a picture of a truck with a boat on top, and for the life of me I couldn’t figure out why someone would do this.

But after finding this video below on YouTube and seeing some of the owner’s comments, it comes down to two reasons to go to this much trouble to put a pontoon boat on top of your truck:

  • For campers/RV owners, it is a great way to tow your truck and boat (according to the owner)
  • The owner of this truck is a boat dealer, and by having a boat on top of his truck, he can still tow a second boat (kind of like a car carrier truck but on a smaller scale)

And according to the owner, he has been pulled over on numerous occasions and this is 100% legal.

What do you think?

Smart idea or bad accident waiting to happen?

Ever seen a boat docking competition?

If you are into boating, it is pretty darn awesome!

Depending on the competition, it could be an entire boat team trying to dock the boat and secure four lines in the quickest amount of time possible, or it could be just one captain doing it all by him or herself.

Check out three of the best boat docking competitions from Instagram below.

This first one is team “Tough Luck 2” out of Maryland.

Here is another boat in the famous “Skipjack Festival” held at Deal Island, Maryland during the famous Labor Day boating event.

This captain is doing the entire competition by himself. Impressive.

Kind of interesting that all of the boat docking competitions are held in Maryland.

Have you ever been to one of these events?

After seeing this, I’m dying to go now… sounds like Labor Day is one of the best times to do it.

Let us know in the comments if there are any “Must Go To” boat docking events.

Fish On.

What a leap!

Not sure how this runaway boat lost its driver, but one thing is for certain…

This police officer needs to try out for the next James Bond.

Certainly a day on the water that guy won’t forget, and I’m certain he got some mad respect from his fellow officers back at the station.

There is a lesson to be learned here folks…

If you drink Long Island Ice Teas all day, don’t get behind the wheel of your car, truck, or boat.

And if you can afford a 72-ft yacht, you can probably afford a captain for a day to drive your boat while you enjoy a few cocktails…

Did you catch that he named his boat, “Time Out”?

Quite ironic since both the boat and the owner will be in time out for a while as the boat needs some repairs and the owner will be dealing with his boating under the influence issue.

Note: this occurred on the shoreline right next to the Palm Beach Inlet. We also have reason to believe that bananas were on board this boat.

Don’t drink and drive folks!
