Fishing on a public pier is very similar to surfing.

In both fishing and surfing, there always seems to be “Locals” who believe they have more of a right to be there than you do (even though it is all public property).

And there is always at least one surfer hothead (or an old salty fisherman) that will not hesitate to let you know they don’t appreciate you getting near “Their Spot”.

In the case of the video below, the scene took place just this week on the Ocean Inlet Pier (Boynton Beach, FL), and the argument was apparently over the “best fishing spot” on the pier.

The Lesson: Don’t be that guy (or that girl). There are certainly enough fish in the sea to go around.

Also, SHAME on them for using a perfecting good fishing rod to hit someone when they could have used a fist…

And if anyone can find the rest of this video (to see what happened after they were fighting on the ground), send it our way please.

I didn’t even know this was legal…

I didn’t think you could use a speargun out of the water OR spear a fish inside of a nice marina basin like this? But I guess those are Florida rules…

But either way, pretty wild stuff.

It’s not every day that you get a chance to spear a Yellowfin Tuna off of a marina dock like this, so if it was legal, I certainly can’t blame the guy for taking the shot.

The notes say that this was in Dana Point, California (where I presume they have different spearfishing laws than Florida).

And here is a Disclaimer from the YouTube Video:

Disclaimer: Shooting a finfish without being in the water and swimming is illegal. We do not condone illegal activity. This was posted not to celebrate the catch, but to show the unusual event of a yellowfin tuna in the Dana Point Harbor.

The Big Question: Assuming you shot this nice Yellowfin Tuna, would you eat it?

I have to imagine that the fish doesn’t exactly have a “Natural” diet if it is living or spending a bunch of time in a marina basin. Can you say “Poo Particles”! Haha.

Just a week ago we posted an EXTREME fishing video that got shared like crazy called “The Most Extreme Cobia and Mackerel Fishing Ever” (you can watch it here).

It was none other than our friends over at MorningTide Fishing. The craziest, most daring, most passionate group of on-land anglers in the world.

And this week they are at it again.

I won’t ruin this video for you, but let’s just say this angler is lucky that he made it out in one piece. Getting knocked up against those sharp ledges can be lethal.

You can even hear his buddy say, “How do we get back out of here” when they are down in the bottom of the cliff. NUTS!

Stick around til the very end as they show some quick outtakes of his buddy accidentally hitting him on the back with his own lure (with treble hooks).

So would you risk life and limb on ledges like this to save and land a fish? Let us know in the comments.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again, the guys from MorningTide Fishing Are Extreme.

If you haven’t seen these crazy blokes do some of the wildest land based fishing ever captured on video before, here are three of their videos that blew up on our site:

  • “Think The Wicked Tuna Guys Are Crazy. Then Watch This” (watch it here)
  • “Only A True Fisherman Could Ever Understand This Wild Video” (watch it here)
  • “The Biggest Mackerel Ever Caught In Skinny Jeans. Ever.” (watch it here)

In this MorningTide fishing video below, land-based angler Sam has some “bad luck fishing redemption” by landing a Cobia and a nice Spanish Mackerel up on the rocks.

Take special notice at the 4:27 mark as his fishing partner almost wipes out as an oncoming wave hits him.

Like I said, these guys are extreme.

Hope you enjoy this extreme cobia and mackerel fishing video!

This Salt Strong high school girl, Lexis Chancey, is no stranger to monster fish…

In fact, this is the second time that she has made the home page here at Salt Strong. The first time was when she landed a beast of a 30-lb Snook (watch that video here).

Of course this time she is having to battle a fish that weighs more than she does, all from a kayak. Notice how she comes pretty close to flipping over at one point. Wow!

And if the last name sounds familiar, it is because she is the daughter of Monster Fish Legend Capt. Ben Chancey of Chew on This. If you never saw Capt Ben’s first huge Goliath Grouper from a kayak just a month ago, then check out that video here.

Related: The fishing hole in this video appears to be the exact same spot that a “Goliath Grouper Snaps Kayaker’s Rod and He Still Lands It” video took place. Watch it here if you never saw it.

P.S. – If you think your friends would like this Goliath Grouper video, please share it with them – I’d really appreciate it

The “Sunshine” Skyway Bridge in the Tampa / St. Petersburg area is one of the most well known and recognizable bridges in Florida. It’s main span is over a mile long, it reaches 430 feet in height, and it made in on the Travel Channel’s “Top 10 Bridges in the World“.

But did you know that it is also a great place to catch massive Goliath Groupers! Usually most anglers going for big game fish near the Skyway Bridge (such as Tarpon, Shark, and Goliath Grouper) do it in boats, as it is not legal to pull up a fish like a Goliath up to the bridge / pier level (or out of the water at all… nor it is very doable even if you could).

Well this week angler Rich MacNeil of “Show Me The Snapper” went out to prove that he could catch a Goliath Grouper by hand from the Skyway Bridge Pier with the following things:

  • Dead mackerel
  • 100 feet of anchor line
  • Shark rig
  • Gloves
  • Hope

Pretty quickly after dropping in the mackerel, he was hooked up with a Goliath Grouper right under the bridge, and after a short fight…

Well, I will let you watch the video to see if he makes it or not…

Note: Do Not Try This At Home

Can you imagine walking away from a 6-figure job to pursue a dream of starting a fishing company from scratch?

Risking it all, giving up a steady paycheck, walking away from everything you built in the past… all to pursue your love for fishing and the preservation of fishing for generations to come…

Well I sure can, because that is exactly what my brother and I did back in December of last year.

And even though we literally haven’t been able to pay ourselves a single penny in 5 months, we are happier than we have ever been. We wake up with more energy, more burning desire to help others catch fish and to share fishing experiences, and more excitement about the lives of kids / families that we will be able to impact with fishing memories long into the future.

I tell you all of this because the video you are about to see is what I wish I had available to show all of the naysayers, and the people that gave us looks like we were crazy when we told them that we were leaving our jobs to teach the world how to fish…

But then again, they still probably wouldn’t understand…

Because until you have felt the exhilarating feeling of a big fish on the other end of your line, it is tough to explain to a non-angler.

It’s the reason these rad dudes from as MorningTide Fishing risk the leg scrapes, risk the head injuries, and risk getting knocked over by huge waves on rocky terrain to catch a fish.

And unless you are a fisherman, you probably just won’t understand…

But to those of you anglers across the globe, this one’s for you. Enjoy and spread the good word.

Fish On!

This video sucked me right in…

Growing up in Florida I have some very fond memories of catching bluefish with my dad and brother near one of the rock jetties in Port Orange, Florida (South Daytona Beach). Those tough fighting fish would eat just about anything, and I loved catching them.

Of course, the one thing I didn’t have back then was amazing HD cameras the size of magic markers that can go on my rod, leader, and head.

But this guy did!

And this angler (from Surfcaster’s Journal) nailed this video in terms of editing, filming, and of course catching the bluefish.

It kind of reminded me of watching the movie “Snatch” with Brad Pitt where the film keeps flipping back and forth from everyone’s different angle.

One second we see it from his view, then the rod’s view, then the bluefish.

Pa-POW!

My favorite scene was the line shooting out during the cast at the 1:30 mark.

What part did you like the best? Leave me a comment.

Enjoy!

Holy Kitchen Utensils!

This is the latest video to come from the Aussie team “How Ridiculous“.

Quick backstory on fishing with random objects (including kitchen utensils).

Back in February we posted a video of a guy catching a Trout on a Lego (watch that crazy video here – fair warning, the guy cusses like a sailor).

Then we thought we had seen it all when we published a video of Captain Justin Moore and Ben Guth catching a redfish on a pair of pliers (watch that amazing video here)!

But then this week the bar was set even higher as Brett Stanford (of “How Ridiculous“) sent us in this video of he and his mate catching Australian Salmon using kitchen utensils.

So which kitchen utensil do you think works best for catching fish?

  • Fork
  • Spoon
  • Knife

Find out in the video below!

Enjoy and don’t forget to SHARE this crazy video.

P.S. – If you are ever in Australia and you see a Salmon with a kitchen utensil stuck to its mouth, you know what happened.

P.P.S. – Do NOT try catching fish with silverware at home…
