It’s Florida Mullet Run Time!

And just wait until you see this amazing footage from our friend BlacktipH (see his YouTube channel here).

Every fall the Florida Mullet Run produces some of the best saltwater fishing action in the state.

Countless amounts of mullet make their pilgrimage south to warmer waters where sea grass and algae grow during the winter, which also means more predatory fish following this run than you can count.

It’s a pretty phenomenal site to see!

Heck, our friend Capt. Jeff Maggio even named one his YouTube Channels “The Mullet Run” after it.

And we can’t blame him after watching this incredible mullet footage below.

Warning: If you fish yet don’t live in Florida, this video could have you hanging up your leaf rake for a fishing pole this fall.

Watch Tarpon, sharks, and other predators explode and get airborne on huge schools on the migrating mullet.

Finally, if you have any mullet run footage that can hands down beat this, then please send it to fish@saltstrong.com or just post the video in the comment section.

So far we haven’t found any mullet run footage that beats Blacktiph, but we would love to see it if it exists.

Enjoy.

Apparently skateboarder Garrett David Ginner got curious to just how many unique tricks he could pull off using a skateboard…

In this video below, Garrett takes out an old skateboard, uses a small hole in the top of the skateboard as the top rod guide, and tosses out some fresh bait from the pier.

Wait til’ you see what he catches…

Not big, but probably about the biggest fish you could catch using that rig.

What’s the craziest thing you have used to catch fish?

The Giant Trevally (aka “GT”) is one of the strongest fighting fish (pound for pound) in the ocean.

If you asked 100 avid saltwater fly fishing anglers to name their bucket list fish to catch, you would hear many of them mention the Giant Trevally.

It’s like fighting a runaway train!

So when I saw this young guy attempt to land a GT using nothing but a short 400lb leader line, I knew it would get interesting.

According to the Fishing The Edge host, these GT are all in the 60-pound range (20-25 kilograms).

Enjoy.

Note: Alex is a full-time trained professional fishing guide that has done this many times. Kids, do NOT try this at home (and if you find schools of GT at your dock, call me so I can come over and catch one)

Normally we would not promote any video encouraging the “crashing of a wedding”…

But where we come from, if fishing is involved, it’s always ok.

I mean, Peter and the disciples went fishing the day after Jesus was crucified, so why can’t Lunkerdog do a few power casts at a wedding?

I digress…

Check out Capt. Jeff Maggio (aka Lunkerdog) and his crew doing their latest promo for the new Lunkderdog Fishing Rod Series.

Brilliant idea!

The only thing that could have made it better is if one of them fell in from their momentum. I was waiting for it.

The best news is that this will be a memory the bride and her friends will cherish for the rest of their life… I mean, how many people can say they had power casters at their wedding?

Great job Lunkerdog, Chip, Mike, and crew.

What’s the craziest or most dangerous thing you have ever done to catch a fish?

I can still vividly recall when my dad, my brother Luke, and myself went to the backcountry of Costa Rica in search of monster snook (all land based fishing).

At one point in the trip we had to walk a mile or so through a secluded pasture that we knew was teaming with snakes… and then at the very end of the hike, we had to cross through small wading pools that had crocodiles in them (the crocs were literally staring at us as we crossed).

Had it not been for our crazy local guide leading us with no fear, I think we would have turned around and ran…

But none of that compared to what this guy, Sam Niang, a Laotian fisherman, has to go through to fish every day.

You’ve got to see him walk a high wire strung above the raging Mekong River rapids (which is his daily commute to work).

If he’s not the world’s most extreme fisherman, then I’d love to know who is.

Leave us a comment with any of your wild stories.

Enjoy!

Angler Dennis Verreet is known for some of his extreme land-based saltwater fishing from the rocks (like this 200lb beast of a tuna he landed from shore in Australia)

But in this video, Dennis’s wife Kate takes the spotlight as she hooks into a monster tuna…

And what a fight both she and tuna put up!

Talk about watching a lot of line leave the reel!

Sadly, not all fishing stories end up great ones, but this was too cool not to share just from the screaming drag and all of the line the tuna took out.

One thing I am certain of… Kate will be back for another round with the tuna soon.

Looking forward to the next video guys.

If you like snook, you are going to love this video!

About a month ago, we posted a video that went crazy viral of a few guys taking a GoPro down to the bottom of the Sebastian Inlet (you can see that video here)

So when I saw that two other guys did an entire NEW drift dive of Sebastian Inlet, I knew it was going to be awesome.

And as you will see below, it didn’t disappoint.

I don’t think there is anything cooler than seeing exactly what is down under the water of places that you fish (except for catching the fish of course…)

Here are the notes from the owner of the video (311Pope):

“In the summer, Sebastian Inlet opens up with gin clean water and a small group of us take the annual incoming ride. It was filmed at the switch of the tide under the north catwalk. Seems like those fish came out at the switch because I did 4 or 5 drifts that day and didn’t see them until the tide slowed.”

Check out all of the Snook and Grouper sitting down there just waiting for your bait!

Enjoy!

A while back, a video of a guy catching a “boat load” of sheepshead in his cast net went a bit viral (and created a ton of comments and opinions) in our Private Salt Strong Fishing Tribe Facebook Group.

Note: (If you aren’t a member of the Salt Strong Fishing Tribe Facebook Group with 28,000+ anglers yet, click here to request permission to join).

So here is what we could find out about this wild sheepshead cast netting video.

The guy with the net is a commercial fisherman and he was catching these while not on duty to feed his family while on the Anna Maria Island City Pier in Florida.

And quite honestly, if you are skilled enough to throw a 12-foot net off a dock and not completely rip it up from structure (not to mention, avoiding any getting any bycatch caught in your net), then you deserve every fish that you catch…

I still don’t know how there this many sheepshead in an area where he could get away throwing a net and not having it get snagged on some structure of some sort. And the fact that this many sheepshead didn’t see the net is amazing!

Note: For any beginners to fishing that are reading this, using a cast net like this is NOT the recommended way to catch a sheepshead. This is for experienced commercial anglers only.

Ever seen anyone catch more sheepshead in a cast net?

Let us know in the comments.

Enjoy.

Fish On.

Would you ever dive down to the bottom of the Sebastian Inlet?

I can only imagine that these divers (Josh Rhein, Vaughn and Nikko) did this dive on an absolute perfect day (and slack tide) for the Inlet.

Because the last time I was fishing the Sebastian Inlet the water was incredibly choppy, not to mention, the water was ripping so fast through the pass that most boats were scared to go through it…

Also, the Sebastion Inlet has been known to hold a few bull sharks… or two… or one hundred…

If you aren’t familiar with the world famous Sebastian Inlet, it is about 12 miles north of Vero Beach, and it is one of the favorite land based (and boat based) spots for anglers to catch snook, redfish, tarpon, Spanish mackerel and just about anything else that swims through the inlet.

There are tons of places to fish the inlet from land, and anglers from all over the states (and even abroad) head over to Sebastian Inlet State Park every year to wet a line.

So when I saw that a couple of guys had the courage to free dive the Sebastian Inlet, I knew this was going to be good.

You will be blown away with how many snook are just hanging out down there!

Not to mention, some goliath grouper, mangrove snapper, cubera snapper, and even some lobster.

Enjoy.
