Whoever said that fly anglers didn’t have a sense of humor have never fished with Hank Patterson before…

And if you haven’t heard of Hank Patterson before, here is his bio from his YouTube channel:

Hank Patterson is a world renowned, self proclaimed fly fishing expert and guide. He is a high school graduate, makes a hell of a nice pot roast and owns three copies of “A River Runs Through It” on BluRay. Snap It!

In this video below, fly angler Hank Patterson takes out three “bait fishermen” to learn the art of fly fishing.

Their questions about catch and release fishing are hilarious!

Enjoy.

Just a couple of weeks ago, we posted what must be the wildest surf fishing video to ever come out of Montauk, New York (you can see it here).

In that video, the ending quote was, “We all have to die… You know… so you might as well die like a man…”

To say it was a pretty intense video with some pretty intense anglers is an understatement.

I reference that video because up until that point, we hadn’t featured a video from Montauk.

And now, in just the span of two weeks, we get two phenomenal videos out of one of the wildest fisheries in America.

It’s also important to point out because what is known as the striped bass capital of America is seeing some of its worst striped bass fishing yet.

Check out this quick documentary film by Mike Percelli and Thomas Nakasone that was an official selection of the International Fly Fishing Festival.

Not only does this Redfish video have some of the most professional and epic redfish footage out there, it also has some of the best fishing lines to date…

“The Colossal Redfish Chase Them (Flys) Like A Fat Kid After The Ice Cream Truck”

“Those big Redfish freaking look like big orange school buses in the water”

I can’t wait for you see this Louisiana winter time redfish video below!

And make sure to stick around for the entire video. About halfway through is when they start getting into the 20lb+ redfish like this one below (including a heartbreaking trophy redfish at the very end).

Good stuff!

It will certainly want to make you head to the marshes of Louisiana this winter. I am already hitting up my brother Luke to do a trip there after watching this.

Who knew that the water was so clear there in the wintertime? Wowzers.

Great job Waterline Media!

Enjoy.

If this video doesn’t make you proud to be an angler, then it’s time to find a new hobby that inspires you… because this is nothing short of pure inspiration…

And although the video doesn’t focus on saltwater fishing, it focuses on what really brings all of us together as anglers…

It’s what brings entire communities of anglers from different backgrounds, beliefs, and faiths closer together…

And it’s why we want to pass this powerful past time down to our kids, grandkids, and their grandkids…

Simply stated, this story is some living proof why fishing means so much to us.

Many times it’s tough to explain to a non-fisherman why you love fishing so much, but this video nails it on top of the head with one of the most powerful stories I have seen.

A story where fishing brought true LIFE to someone.

Amazing job Two Fisted Heart Productions in capturing this powerful trailer of Joey Maxim called “Mend”.

You had me weeping in excitement for this guy in the scene when he started running with his fly rod…

And please check out his Kickstarter campaign going on now trying to raise money in an attempt to make Joey’s story a documentary film.

Enjoy, and grab a tissue.

For all of us that are married (like me), angler Dustin Miller nailed it on this one.

And this video rings true even louder when you have young kids at home…

My brother Luke is single with no kids, and I don’t think he quite grasps how much tougher it is for me to get up and hit the water on a moments notice when I have a wife and two kids under age 5… and I own a saltwater fishing company for crying out loud!

This video below does a great job of telling the story of the hall pass, and he brings up a couple of really good points for us married with young kid anglers…

Like the fact that you simply can’t come home without a fishing story (and an accompanying picture to prove you caught a fish)…

Nothing worse than having to face your spouse and tell them you were skunked after you landed a fishing hall pass.

Well done Dustin!

Enjoy.

I told you Eric Estrada of Estrada Art was going to be a name you will want to remember in the saltwater fishing world!

Note: He made “The Complete List: 63 Must-Know Florida Saltwater Anglers” that we put together a month ago.

This new Estrada Art “5wt Chronicles” is a multi-segment short film series where Eric and his fly fishing crew go all over the country to see how many different species of fish they can catch with a 5wt fly rod.

From big backcountry saltwater fish like redfish, black drum, tarpon, and snook, to trout in the Blue Ridge Mountains, this fly fishing series will certainly be big (and entertaining).

Check out this very first official episode below, and find out why these guys are even willing to carry their boat across land to get some hidden “honey holes”.

Cast in order of appearance:
Capt. Ty Loyd Jr.
Eric Estrada
Frank Salas
Reid Ogden

There is even some great fishing conservation segments courtesy of JoEllen Wilson of the Bonefish and Tarpon Trust.

And stay tuned until the end, there is some great bonus footage and a preview of the next 5wt chronicle.

We are looking forward to the next episode Eric Estrada!

Enjoy!

This.

Is.

Awesome!

Here at Salt Strong, we are really big into family, so when we came across this amazing video by Dan Decibel (one of the “Must Know” anglers in The Complete List: 63 Must-Know Saltwater Anglers In Florida) that started off with a young boy talking about his family’s fishing habits, we knew we were going to like it…

Not to mention, I was curious what a “Sofa Fish” was… haha.

And then we saw the sick tarpon footage, and we couldn’t stop watching this video.

It was no surprise that Dan Decibel won first place in the 2015 POONFECTA (Baby Tarpon on fly Tournament) Film Festival for this amazing video called, “Micro Management”.

Great job Dan and everyone else that was involved in this video.

You guys nailed it.

Our friend Patrick Rhea from LivitFilms is back at it again!

If his name sounds familiar, he is the videographer behind the #1 Fishing Music Video of 2015 “Fishing In Our Soul” (you can watch it here if you haven’t seen it yet).

And in this brand new tarpon video, Patrick is out in the Florida “skinny water” filming some amazing juvenile acrobatic moves on the fly.

Check it out!

Another amazing fishing video Pat!

In what could be the most outrageous, random, and funniest fly fishing show ever made, “Rod Time with Big Joe” is a fishing show that I am glad I stumbled upon this weekend.

When I first started watching it, I wasn’t sure if this fly fishing, beer drinking, awkwardly hilarious guy named Big Joe (Joey Mara) was being serious or not.

I mean, the guy was trying to hit trout with a wooden bat for crying out loud.

In fact, both of my daughters looked over at me with a weird look when I started laughing out loud from the “fishing face mask” scene…

rod time with big joe

But after watching the entire show, not only did I come to find out that Big Joe knows how to fish, but he is also having one heck of a fun time doing it.

In this second episode of “Rod Time with Big Joe” produced by Daniel Silverberg of Waste Deep Media, Joey Mara (Big Joe) takes Copi Vojta (from The FlyFish Journal) out for some saltwater and freshwater fly fishing on Whidbey Island (small island off Washington).

I highly encourage you to watch the entire video… It doesn’t have a dull moment…

Big Joe even visits a “Fish Penitentiary”!

Keep up the great work guys, and can’t wait for the next episode.

Enjoy!
