For those of you that love fishing (and eating) Cobia, this video is going to be bittersweet.

Why?

Because although this is certainly the largest school of Cobia the world has ever seen, there are no fishing poles allowed in the area where they live.

Why is life so cruel?

What is going on here is a company called Open Blue, founded by Brian O’Hanlon, set out to Panama to create the world’s largest open-ocean fish farm.

And boy did they ever!

Just wait until you see all of the Cobia in this video.

Why Cobia you ask?

According to their website, a single 7-oz serving of their open water Cobia has the same Omega 3 as 67 7-oz servings of rib-eye steak.

Pretty cool.

And if you haven’t eaten Cobia before, you are missing out. One of my favorite fish to eat.

Holy Cobia and Bull Shark Honey Hole!

Wait until you see the wild video below!

Our friend Joey Antonelli and his crew have found the pot of cobia gold off the east coast of Florida.

Of course, that also means they have to fend off and shoot in between sharks while they go after their catch.

Just check out how many cobia are within reach of his spear!

Now before you comment that they took too many cobia, there were 9 divers in this video and these guys never take more than their limit.

Well done gents, and great job on the music selection. I was laughing during the transition.

You know you are having a good day when four people are all hooked up with cobia and you have to hand one rod down from the tower so you can hook another one…

At one point, the angler on the tower was double-rod-fisting with two cobia. Pretty awesome!

And if you are wondering who the anglers are, it is none other than our buddy Joey Antonelli who isn’t a stranger to being featured on Salt Strong.

I’ve got a question relating to cobia…

Why can’t cobia hang around nurse sharks instead of bull sharks? Haha.

I guess if they did, way too many freedivers would be prone to spearing them.

But no amount of sharks bothered our good friend Joey Antonelli and his crew (Scott Fricker & Nick Furrow) this summer.

Wait until you see how many cobia they were able to harvest this summer all while dealing with a crazy amount of sharks.

Here is a note from Joey on this video:

All the fish in this video were speared out of Sebastian inlet in 40ft – 100ft. I did experience my most memorable shark encounter. That was when Nick Furrow and I jumped in on a 12 foot Tiger Shark that was eating a Sea Turtle, so that we could shoot a Cobia that was following the Tiger Shark around. Nick shot the Cobia and we landed it from the boat.

Wow!

This could be one of the best spearfishing videos of the year!

Talk about some amazing shots and wild footage.

The toughest part about this one was trying to figure out which part of the video to feature in the headline and thumbnail picture…

These guys (they call themselves Team Descent Spearfishing out of South Florida – Divers Greyson Dixon, Joe Cooper, and some friends are in this video) pluck off cobia, king mackerel, permit, and more in this epic video.

But after watching it twice, I decided “The Cobia Run” part was too good to not feature. These guys were going head to head with some pretty massive bull sharks with blood in the water.

I don’t know about you but the last place I want to be is in the water with bull sharks when there is blood next to me… same goes for hammerhead sharks which you will also see in this video.

At any rate, check out all of the great spearfishing action in this one. Great job Descent Spearfishing Team!

Warning: The following cobia video might have you packing your bags and heading down to Key West this afternoon…

If you are anything like me, you love catching (and eating) cobia.

And although these amazing fighting (and tasting) fish aren’t all that hard to get a strike from once you locate them, they usually take a little bit of work to find.

So when I saw the crew of Local Knowledge TV come across this school of cobia in Key West, I had to share it with you.

Have you ever seen a school of cobia on the surface basically eating out of your hand like this?

Talk about cobia heaven!

And to top it off, the Local Knowledge guys run into some tuna as well.

What a day!

Holy Extreme Cobia Spearfishing!!!

After thousands of people saw our friend Joey Antonelli take a bite to the family jewels by a triggerfish (you can see that viral video here), he has had numerous redemption videos to make up for it.

But this has to be his best video yet.

Not only do these guy spear cobia off the backs of bull sharks, but they have some pretty close encounters with the sharks as well.

Now I don’t know about you, but when I am freediving, the two things that I want to see the least of are as follows:

Bull Sharks
Lots of blood in the water

Yet, this video is full of both.

Amazing job to all of the divers in this video (Matt Budd, Taylor Heflin, Scott Fricker, and Joey Antonelli)

You guys are officially nuts!

And stay tuned until the very end as they even shoot a flounder from the boat!

Holy Cobia!

Can you imagine fighting a 141-pound cobia on a spinning reel!

Or catching a 141-pound cobia on any rod and reel for that matter…

Check out Elie Tackchi with Reel Deal Sports Fishing catching the biggest cobia ever landed on hook and line.

The beast of a cobia weighed a mind-blowing 141-pounds and took almost an hour to land off the Hallaniyat Islands, Oman.

Sadly, it won’t qualify as the IGFA World Record Cobia because it wasn’t weighed on an official scale, but that doesn’t change the fact that Elie Tackchi is the man!

Amazing job guys, and certainly a cobia that you will never forget.

Call me old-fashioned, but the last place that I want to be when chumming for bull sharks is in the water!

I have spent a considerable amount of time under the surface, and only a few sharks really get my attention and cause me to slowly move closer to the boat… and one of them in the bull shark.

That being said, kudos to you ~~brave~~ crazy divers that not only chum for bull sharks while diving, but then get close enough to the bull shark where you can pluck a cobia off its back!

Nuts!

Speaking of nuts, one of the divers in this cobia spearfishing video (and the guy who edited the video – our friend Joey) is also the same diver in the Must-Watch Viral video called, “This Is What Happens When A Triggerfish Gets The Ultimate Revenge On A Diver. OUCH!”
