It’s Florida Mullet Run Time!

And just wait until you see this amazing footage from our friend BlacktipH (see his YouTube channel here).

Every fall the Florida Mullet Run produces some of the best saltwater fishing action in the state.

Countless amounts of mullet make their pilgrimage south to warmer waters where sea grass and algae grow during the winter, which also means more predatory fish following this run than you can count.

It’s a pretty phenomenal site to see!

Heck, our friend Capt. Jeff Maggio even named one his YouTube Channels “The Mullet Run” after it.

And we can’t blame him after watching this incredible mullet footage below.

Warning: If you fish yet don’t live in Florida, this video could have you hanging up your leaf rake for a fishing pole this fall.

Watch Tarpon, sharks, and other predators explode and get airborne on huge schools on the migrating mullet.

So far we haven’t found any mullet run footage that beats Blacktiph, but we would love to see it if it exists.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers had Flea.

Well, Mexican fishing has Sandflea.

Never heard of Sandflea before?

He is a legendary fishing guide on the island of Holbox (it’s in Mexico where the Gulf of Mexico meets the Caribbean), and the locals know him as the man with tarpon tattoo on his back.

And anyone who has fished down there knows him to be one of the best guides to get you on tarpon.

Tons of tarpon.

Anglers from all over the world come to fish with Sandflea.

Amazing job. Hope to get to meet this guy someday.

The Costa Rica Inshore Grand Slam…

Permit.

Bonefish.

Tarpon.

All landed on a fly rod in the same trip.

Most of the locals in this part of the Costa Rican jungle say it’s never been done.

You see, these waters are known primarily for their monster tarpon, but rarely do you find permit and bonefish (unless you know where to look).

Check out the amazing trailer by Capture Adventures Media & Anglers Eye Media as they film anglers Mark Martin and Alex Beck trying to complete the very first Costa Rican Grand Slam.

I know I will be tuning into the IF4 (Fly Fish Film Festival) to see the full film.

I’ve got to give some props to Eleven Experience (a company that creates amazing outdoor experiences in cool places all over the world) for their new video on Experiencing The Everglades.

In reality, it’s a commercial, but they did such a great job it doesn’t feel like one (and no, they are NOT paying me to post this).

I guess sometimes even tarpon get fed up with the bully of the sea…

In what could be the first ever footage of tarpon clearly chasing away a shark, this is pretty awesome to see.

Watch as these tarpon work together like a pack of wolves or dogs to scare off an intruder.

And keep your eye on the last tarpon that even goes right down to shark by himself for one last prod.

Wild stuff!

Lesson learned: Don’t mess with tarpon when they are daisy chaining…

What an ending!

I kept watching this brand new mullet run footage by our friend Captain Stephen Ferrell, wondering if he was going to get a cool shot of something crazy.

And he didn’t let me down.

Towards the end, he takes the drone down about as low as possible (without having it get sucked down by a wave or a jumping tarpon), and captures a tarpon coming out of the water trying to crush a mullet.

What a shot!

Holy smokes this is awesome!

Usually the best tarpon footage comes out of Florida, but our friends from Texas (Project Tarpon) certainly put on a show with this new tarpon video.

And not only do you get to see the underwater strike on this soft-plastic “Coon-Pop” lure, but you also get to see the acrobatic display that the tarpon puts on immediately after it realizes it is hooked.

If you are wondering what a “Coon Pop” lure is, it was invented by a Lousiana angler named “Coon” Schoest (his father Papa-Joe is considered the “father” of Louisiana tarpon fishing). It is basically a circle hook with a lead jig below the hook (tied on using copper wire), and some sort of soft plastic bait (or tail) used for trolling (aka a breakaway jig).

It is similar to the “Boca Grande Breakaway Tarpon Jig” that is fished vertically in the Boca Grande pass, except the Coon-Pop is used for slow trolling.

Well, if there was any doubting that the 2016 Mullet Run was in full effect, this brand new video will lay that to rest.

Check out the amazing drone footage that our friend Josh Jorgensen (aka BlacktipH) captured showing the Florida Mullet Run in action over the past week.

This is certainly some of the best mullet run footage I’ve ever seen.

And I loved the view of the three people in the water having no idea what is going on around them.

It’s tarpon time!

Normally the best tarpon videos we’ve seen have come out of Florida… from Boca Grande to the Florida Keys to the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area during the mullet run, Florida is definitely the tarpon capital of the world.

But today, we came across an awesome tarpon video out of Mexico.

These anglers went out with the Mendoza Fly Company and fished for tarpon in Ascension Bay, Mexico.

Check out the sick drone footage of them hooking into a tarpon, not to mention some of the other amazing “by catch” they landed while tarpon fishing in Mexico.

Looks like a must-do fishing trip!
