Just wait until you see this wild shark attack that occurred in about 70 feet of water in the Cayman Islands.

And it might surprise you why this shark attack video is one of the most controversial shark attack videos on YouTube to date…

It wasn’t over people debating whether this was “Officially” considered a shark attack or not…

And it wasn’t the tree-huggers getting angry about someone spearing such a beautiful fish as a Lionfish (although there were many comments from people getting angry about the “beautiful fish” being speared… of course, you and I know how incorrect that is)…

Then why was it so controversial?

It was so controversial because hordes of people think that this shark attack video was created/edited/animated from a video game!

I wish I was making this stuff up… but there are over 2,800 comments on this video and the main ones all focus on this video being fake. Check them out for yourself here.

If you are scratching your head like I am, then I don’t blame you…

Take a look yourself and let us know what you think in the comments.

In the past year or so, we have reported on quite a bit of positive news regarding lionfish.

To begin, we featured the incredible video of “The Ultimate Lionfish Killer” that plucked 200 lionfish from a sunken airplane off of Pensacola. Click here to watch that amazing lionfish video.

And then we showed the brave Grouper that sucked down a lionfish like it was an oyster! Click here to watch this video.

Well, we found this wild video that was uploaded by angler Jimmy Nelson (of Extreme Fishing Adventures) where 2 Grouper fight over a lionfish!

With all of the talk about lionfish having no natural predators in Florida, who would have ever thought we’d see grouper fighting over a lionfish.

So the great news is that apparently not only are Nassau Grouper not afraid of Lionfish, but they are willing to fight over the delicious fish.

Have you ever heard of Ascension Island?

Most people don’t even know it exists…

It is a small island out in the South Atlantic Ocean (in the middle of nowhere in between South America and Africa).

Wondering what goes on at Ascension Island?

Well, it can all be summed up in this epic spearfishing video…

  • 300lb Tuna
  • 200lb Wahoo
  • 1,000lb Marlin

And definitely watch this video til the end. It just keeps getting better and better.

If it doesn’t have you urging to take a spearfishing trip with Cameron Kirkconnell, then nothing will.

Incredible job Cameron, Perrin James (the videographer), and the rest of the crew.

What do drone lovers do when the government caps their flight height at 500 feet?

They get creative and go below sea level…

Here’s the brief story on this new personal Underwater Drone called the Open ROV Trident Drone:

About 3 years ago, David Lang and Eric Stackpole did a Kickstarter campaign to launch their first underwater drone.

Long story short, it was a success… so now they are back again with the latest and greatest version, the Open ROV Trident (you can see their current Kickstarter campaign here)

Some quick stats on this new underwater Open ROV Trident drone:

  • It can dive down to 328 feet in saltwater!
  • It has a battery life of 2 hours
  • Anybody that can work a laptop can work this underwater drone
  • They have built a really cool “Community” platform for other underwater drone fans to share their footage

Check out the video below on how this underwater drone works, and what it can do.

What do you think? Let us know in the comments.

The only negative I see is having that cord hanging behind it (especially down 100ft+). But then again probably comes in handy if you ever lost the signal and needed to pull it back up…

Because at the projected retail price of $1,199, this isn’t like losing a fishing lure…

Enjoy.

If you have ever been spearfishing before, you know that the “perfect shot” rarely exists in real life…

Spearfishing is the ultimate form of underwater hunting, and more often than not, you don’t come up with a nice fish.

But every once in a while lady luck shows her face, and magically presents nice Sériole (part of the Amberjack family) right in front of your face…

In fact, so close that it was almost self-defense!

I can only imagine the diver was a bit startled himself after holding his breath on the bottom for so long, only to start an ascent and have a small school of amberjack show up right next to his spear.

I thought he was about to get spooled, but the very end of the video shows his prize…

Enjoy!

About 4 years ago I was down in Tahiti doing some free diving with my wife and the guide that we were with started doing some of the biggest “vertical ring bubbles” (where the bubble ring goes up towards the surface) I have ever seen.

Shortly after impressing us with his well-practiced skill, he blew us away when he did a couple of “horizontal ring bubbles”.

So when I came across this diver in the video below knocking down rocks with his horizontal ring bubbles, I had to share it.

If you have ever tried this, it is not as easy as this guy makes it look…

In fact, most people struggle to get the bubble out, let alone have enough force to knock down rock statues.

Well done!

Enjoy.

You can call Great White Sharks “curious” all you want, but if you have ever been freediving and had a shark surprise you like this, the last thing on your mind is a “curious shark”…

Especially when the shark happens to be a Great White Shark!

And when the shark starts circling you and coming back in within feet of you, panic mode starts to settle in…

Just wait til’ you see what happens when he breaks the surface and then looks back down… soiled wetsuit time!

Enjoy this wild shark encounter off Cape Cod, South Africa.

Wait for it…

Wait for it…

Wait for it…

What a wild video!

I kept waiting for a fish to arrive on the scene (as this guy could certainly hold his breath for quite some time), and then it finally happened…

A real nice Tuna makes the mistake of swimming right above this spearfisherman’s head…

But it doesn’t end there…

I won’t ruin it for you, but let’s just say this is what it must be like to have your spear attached to a train as you watch it fly by!

Holy line removal!

Enjoy.

Happy Freshwater Friday… again!

Freshwater Friday is where we post a freshwater fishing video every Friday here on Salt Strong (it’s kind of like washing off with freshwater after fishing in the saltwater for 6 straight days…)

Sometimes the freshwater Friday videos are funny redneck videos like “What Happens When You Grab Bug Spray Instead Of Lighter Fluid For Your Boat Motor”.

Sometimes the freshwater Friday videos are bass doing crazy things like “Largemouth Bass Eats Alligator Caught On Film!”

And sometimes they are mad pike ferociously attacking lures like they hadn’t eaten in weeks as in the video below.

Definitely check out the entire video as you will see what the pike ended up breaking after attacking the lure so hard!

Amazing underwater attack footage for sure!

Enjoy.
