If you have ever been fishing for redfish on the flats or even out in the bay, then you know they aren’t always the easiest fish to catch.

Redfish can be finicky eaters at times, they can spook easily, and it takes a sometimes flawless presentation when sight casting for a redfish…

That is MOST of the time…

In this video, you get a glimpse of what I call “REDFISH MECCA“.

Redfish stacked up as far as you can see, probably hitting anything you throw out them.

So if you can’t catch a redfish here, something really is wrong… and it might be time to turn in your fishing license…

Note: this video was filmed with Captain Jamie Glasner of Fin and Fly Charters out of Cocoa Beach, FL

Please share this with someone you know that loves redfish. You Rock!

When I think fishing for sailfish, the last thing I think of is catching them on anything but a rod and reel.

And I certainly didn’t I think I would see someone in Pompano Beach, FL catching a sailfish on a Cuban YoYo!

But Team Googan strikes again!

Yes, this is the same lip gripping, line ripping, bad a$$ angler from south Florida that:

  • Caught the two slot snook from a Spiderman rod (see that video here)
  • Catches a nice snook on the same YOYO from his kayak (see that video here)

So hat’s off to our friend Team Googan down in South Florida for catching a sailfish with a Cuban YoYo!

Simply amazing video man (and well-paired music as well)!

Enjoy and don’t forget to SHARE this with a friend that loves fishing! Pa-POW!

Our friend Captain Jeff Maggio (aka Lunkerdog) knows how to get people on Tarpon without a doubt!

A couple of weeks ago he surprised the heck of a 10-year old kid by helping him land a 150lb tarpon after a 2-hour fight on his birthday (you can watch that video here).

Then he did what could be considered the most honorable and coolest thing we have seen in the fishing world by handing his 125lb freshly hooked tarpon to a random guy on the sea wall to experience the fight for himself (you can watch that video here).

And then this week he creates an amazing experience for this kid named Brandon, who fought this awesome tarpon for over an hour and a half.

Heck, even the cruise ship captain wanted to come in close for a look… and we can’t blame him.

Run that Dog…

P.S. – Sharing is caring. Share this video with someone that loves tarpon fishing!

We have seen Tarpon do some pretty amazing jumps.

Heck, we recently posted two different videos where Tarpon jumped clear into the boat (if you didn’t see “How to land a Tarpon without touching it, click here. And if you didn’t see “The mere sound of Blair Wiggins has tarpon jumping in the boat”, click here).

In what can only be described as something you will probably never see in person, Blair Wiggins and the D.O.A. Lures creator, Capt. Mark Nichols, hook a small tarpon that jumps right up on the dock, and then flops over the on the other side back in the water.

Classic Throwback clip from Captain Blair Wiggins of Addictive Fishing.

The ingredients for this simply awesome snook video:

  • (1) Shakespeare Spiderman Kid’s Fishing Rod
  • 8lb test braided line in the Spiderman Reel
  • 40lb test line leader
  • 5/0 circle hook
  • A handful of Finger Mullet
  • And (1) Googan (as defined by the Urban Dictionary, a “FishingGoogan” is a term for lowlife, shore (bank) fishermen who baitfish typically without a license, regard to regulations, and etiquette towards other people, especially other fishermen following the rules).

However, even though the angler in this video goes by the name “Team Googan”, it is clear that he can out-fish most anglers in Florida, with or without a spiderman fishing rod…

The results of these ingredients above?

Perhaps the most amazing Snook video we have seen this year.

Well done Team Googan!

This is pretty awesome Snook fishing!

On a fishing trip to Costa Rica many years ago, we were going after monster snook up on some cliffs that overlooked the ocean. I can still recall the local guy (our guide) that was up there with a handline (30 feet above the water) trying to catch a 40lb snook (he caught one on rod and reel later that week).

Even though he didn’t catch anything huge up there that evening, I can still recall being fascinated watching him fish more effectively that most rod and reel anglers with a handline. He had truly mastered the art.

Well this guy in the video below appears to have a similar gift for the art of handline fishing. Fishing a seawall in Biscayne Bay (Miami), this kayak angler lands a nice snook without ever having to touch a rod or reel!

In fact, he makes it look pretty easy (which it is not).

Well done my man!

P.S. – Big thanks (and Happy Birthday) to Salt Strong member (in Hawaii) Nic Turner for sending in this video

When diver Zack Spurlock was doing a routine dive for Lionfish about 25 miles southeast of Port Canaveral, Florida, the last thing he expected to see was a Great White Shark!

But out of the blue, Zack spotted the huge shark down towards the bottom (about 90 feet), and he watched it slowly make its rounds to head over to Zack!

Luckily for us, his friends Alli and Joe Penovich were ready with a GoPro they passed down to Zack, and the entire Great White Shark surprise was caught on film!

According to Zack’s notes, he never would have seen the massive shark behind him if it hadn’t been for his friends yelling at him, and he notes that these huge creatures can get in your blind spot within split seconds.

To me, the craziest thing about this video wasn’t the shark siting off of Florida, it was the fact that Zack had the guts to go down and chase it. I was holding my breath watching the last part of the video just wondering when the scene was going to turn gruesome…

Zack, you are certainly Salt Strong brother!

Our main mission here at Salt Strong is “Creating and Sharing Memories that Matter” through the act of fishing.

And it would be tough to find a video that better portrays that mission than this one from our friends at Lunkerdog / The Mullet Run. In what could be one of the coolest acts of kindness on the water, Captain Jeff Maggio (aka Lunkerdog) is hooked up with a nice tarpon, and instead of fighting it himself, he gives a random guy on the nearby seawall the chance to reel in this prized fish.

Creating a memory for this guy from the seawall that he won’t ever forget.

Well played Captain Jeff! We are certain this “Lunkerdog Tarpon Handoff” will come back to you ten-fold. Hopefully in the form of a new fishing glove for starters…

Meet Wonder Dog Wade out of West Palm Beach, Fl.

It is pretty clear from this video that Wonder Dog Wade has it all figured out. He waits on the dock for large groups of scuba divers to come back in from a long day out on the water, he straps on his doggy GoPro, barks a few times to let the captain of the Loggerhead II know he wants to get on board, and then approaches the first blonde he sets his eyes on with a big kiss.

Who here wants to trade places with Wade for a day!

But it doesn’t end there. After WDW (Wonder Dog Wade) finishes his lick-fest, he then goes off with his partner in crime (named Willis) to discuss the entire event over a Sprite.

Not sure if they disagreed over something, but unless my eyesight is off, it appears as though WDW goes behind Willis and head-butts Willis where it counts at the end of the video. But perhaps that is how these uber-smart dogs high-five…
