This amazing dolphin video was recently shot in Broken Head, New South Wales, Australia, by Benjamin Macht…
And the crazy part about it is that he came across this by somewhat by accident.
Benjamin (aka Benny) is a German photography and video enthusiast currently working in Australia, and he visited the Broken Head beach that day to capture migrating humpback whales.
But when he saw all of the birds diving for the hundreds of thousands of bait fish in the massive bait ball, he cranked up his drone and captured the footage of the dolphins hunting that you see below.
What this mother dolphin is doing is teaching her young to run into the bait pod, slap their tale as hard as they can to stun the bait fish, and then suck up as many as they can for lunch.
Pretty awesome!
Here is a note from Benny (from Express UK)
“When I got there I noticed seabirds in large numbers feeding on fish close to shore.
“A short time later I noticed that there was a pod of dolphins too so I launched my drone from the headland and started recording this feeding frenzy.
“I was there for over three hours and the dolphins repeated this scenario numerous times in that time.
“It was truly spectacular to see how these smart animals hunt their food. I’ve never witnessed this before and to me it was quite special.
“As I’m interested in wildlife photography this was a morning I’ll never forget. Nature is simply amazing.”
