About 4 years ago I was down in Tahiti doing some free diving with my wife and the guide that we were with started doing some of the biggest “vertical ring bubbles” (where the bubble ring goes up towards the surface) I have ever seen.

Shortly after impressing us with his well-practiced skill, he blew us away when he did a couple of “horizontal ring bubbles”.

So when I came across this diver in the video below knocking down rocks with his horizontal ring bubbles, I had to share it.

If you have ever tried this, it is not as easy as this guy makes it look…

In fact, most people struggle to get the bubble out, let alone have enough force to knock down rock statues.

Well done!

Luke and I first met Captain Jeff Maggio (aka Lunkerdog) via a Google Hangout Interview back in March when we did the popular March Fishing Madness event.

Even though it was all done over the Internet, you could tell that Capt. Jeff was a reel guy…

Then when Luke and I met Jeff and spent some time ICASTing the heck out of ICAST with the guy, there was no doubt in our minds that Lunkerdog is not only a reel guy, but he is the real deal.

So when Capt. Jeff asked us to go fishing with him during the Mullet Run, we jumped all over it like a tarpon on an injured mullet…

And the footage below was the result of a late afternoon Mullet Run session with the one and only Lunkerdog.

Now I want to note that this guy was nothing short of a celebrity down there in Fort Lauderdale.

Everywhere we went anglers were yelling “Run That Dog”, they were waving at us, coming by to say hello, and we spotted a dude wearing one of the old Lunkerdog tournament shirts.

Luke and I even had the chance to certify some of Jeff’s famous 5-gallon buckets to give to some of the local “Happy Baiters”… what an experience!

The looks on these kids faces when we pulled them over and gave them a certified RTD (Run That Dog) bucket was priceless!

Keep up the great work down there Capt. Jeff.

Happy Freshwater Friday!

Even though it’s tough to imagine cool weather here in Florida right now, some other parts of the country (like Minnesota) are entering fall with cooler weather, and before too long, the die-hard anglers will be out on the ice drilling holes…

But nothing compared to this ice fishing party…

The group, Gopher Aerial, www.gopheraerial.com hosted what they are calling the largest ice fishing party in the world (it was done for charity).

Tens of thousands of anglers showed up for this ice fishing party and there were over 30,000 holes drilled!

I wonder how thick the ice was… not to mention, how many fish were caught!

In what could be the most outrageous, random, and funniest fly fishing show ever made, “Rod Time with Big Joe” is a fishing show that I am glad I stumbled upon this weekend.

When I first started watching it, I wasn’t sure if this fly fishing, beer drinking, awkwardly hilarious guy named Big Joe (Joey Mara) was being serious or not.

I mean, the guy was trying to hit trout with a wooden bat for crying out loud.

In fact, both of my daughters looked over at me with a weird look when I started laughing out loud from the “fishing face mask” scene…

But after watching the entire show, not only did I come to find out that Big Joe knows how to fish, but he is also having one heck of a fun time doing it.

In this second episode of “Rod Time with Big Joe” produced by Daniel Silverberg of Waste Deep Media, Joey Mara (Big Joe) takes Copi Vojta (from The FlyFish Journal) out for some saltwater and freshwater fly fishing on Whidbey Island (small island off Washington).

I highly encourage you to watch the entire video… It doesn’t have a dull moment…

Big Joe even visits a “Fish Penitentiary”!

If you have followed our friend Capt. Jeff Maggio (aka Lunkerdog) for any amount of time on YouTube, then you know that his favorite time of the year is the “The Florida Mullet Run”.

It’s like Christmas in Fall for Capt. Jeff…

Countless mullet pass through Capt. Jeff’s fishing grounds in South Florida, and he makes the absolute best of it every year… in fact, he coined the term “Happy Bait”, and has a massive following of anglers that tune it to his “Happy Bait Updates” throughout the Mullet Run.

This video below is some of the first footage of this year’s mullet run.

Check out Capt. Maggio as he shows you how to cast net for mullet, and gives you some “reel guy” behind the scenes views of the Ft. Lauderdale mullet run.

Happy Freshwater Friday!

Now this video is how you get a young girl excited about fishing for the rest of her life…

This little girl named Avery has some of the most contagious excitement on catching her first big fish ever. Pretty tough not to be rooting her on the entire video.

While you watch this, I am going to get my 4-year old daughter to watch this before taking her out on the water.

WARNING: This video will have you wanting to leave your job, your current college, or high school to enroll at UCF (University of Central Florida) to join the Reel Knights Fishing Club…

When UCF Reel Knights President Ryan Hullihan sent this video over to me, I was both intrigued and a bit jealous…

Intrigued to see what kind of video these fish-loving college kids put together, and jealous that there wasn’t a fishing club where I went to school…

Well as it turns out, the UCF fishing club’s VP Eddie Twyford is an exceptional videographer and editor, and it also turns out that this club knows how to catch some fish… and having one heck of a FUN time along the way…

Great job UCF Reel Knights! You guys should be incredibly proud of this one!

I never thought I would be using the phrase “Salt Strong” and “Hello Kitty” in the same sentence, but dog gone it, this young girl has earned her Salt Strong stripes…

Using a hot pink fishing rod, hot pink fishing line, and a hot pink “Helly Kitty” rain jacket, this 6-year old girl knows how to fight a fish!

Just wait until you see what she lands!

I won’t ruin it for you… check it out for yourself…
