FACT: The Music in this lionfish video could not have been any more perfect!

I am still humming the song “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” by the Tokens!

So in this video, stud diver and spearfisherman Michael Sipos is doing some serious work… lionfish removal work that is.

After these pesky lionfish invaded, plundered, and literally took over an unidentified shrimp boat wreck in the Gulf, Michael decided to put the “Lionfish Slayer” spearguns to good use (click here to see the Lionfish Slayer spears available) by ending this lionfish party once and for all!

Amazing work down there! Would love to know how many lionfish you plucked off!

And of course, don’t confuse the name Lionfish Slayer with our fan favorite the “Lionfish Killer” Alex Fogg. In fact, Alex let me know he should be having an awesome new video coming soon that reveals one of the biggest lionfish massacres in the universe.

We can’t wait!

Until then, check out this amazing video with the best lionfish song yet.

This is Why You Should Always Watch Out For Goliath Grouper After Spearing A Fish!

I won’t ruin it for you, but let’s just say most of us would have soiled our wetsuit…

I watched this over a few times and it is crazy how close the Goliath comes to the diver’s hand!

Not sure if he saw it coming or not, but either way, if you have ever been in the water next to these monster fish, you know they can be intimidating.

My brother Luke and I had a run in with a big Goliath just a few weeks in Islamorada, and I can assure you that you never want one of those beastly fish getting aggressive next to you.

This spearfishing video is amazing!

Crazy underwater currents, a huge AJ (98 pounds), line screaming out of his spear reel, a wild chase, and a bent spear shaft! Wowzers!

Quick story:

One of the most shared videos on our site this year was called, “This Is What Happens When A 150lb Amberjack Comes Head On With A Diver!” (you can watch it here if you never saw it).

In that wild video, a huge AJ (amberjack) comes directly at a spearfisherman, who was fortunate enough to “stone” the fish in a quick “kill shot”.

However, in this video below the freediving spearfisherman is not quite as lucky…

In fact, he spends over 20 minutes chasing down this monster Amberjack before finally getting to lift up his prize catch.

Here is what each piece of Italian text means in English (I took the time to translate it all to the best of my ability)

  • si blocca il mulinello = “Fish locks the reel”
  • comincia lo sci nautica = “It begins to pull me like a water skiier
  • non sono sicuro di averla passata = “I am not sure where she has gone”
  • assecondo le sue sfuriate = “A second burst”
  • dopo 20 minuti che e presa bene ed inizio a forzarla anche perche mi sta portando a largo = “After 20 minutes the fish had pulled me all over the place”
  • comincio a recuperare = “I finally begin to recover”
  • eccola = “Here it is!”

What an awesome catch after a 20 minute+ fight!

And the spearfisherman says the Amberjack weighed in at 44.5 kg = 98.1 pounds!

Guess Who?

Yep, the Lionfish Killer Alex Fogg is back at it again…

If you don’t who “The Lionfish Killer” is, you can watch one his most popular videos, “The Ultimate Lionfish Massacre” here.

And this time he is lassoing lionfish (aka using a lobster snare), lassoing Florida spiny lobster, and then smoking more lionfish like an underwater wrangler.

If you didn’t know, the FWC (Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission) approved a new ruling for the 2015 mini-lobster season that you can keep one extra lobster tail per day if you kill 10 lionfish in the same day (click here to read the FWC rule).

So for divers like Alex Fogg that can kill lionfish faster than Chuck Norris could, it equates into an extra lobster both days of mini-lobster season.

Now if you didn’t get to read Luke’s “Ultimate Guide To Catching Lobster In The Florida Keys While Snorkeling” (you can click here to watch/read it), he left off one of the options to catch lobster (using a snare or “lasso” to catch lobster).

But thankfully for the Lionfish Killer Alex Fogg, you now know exactly how to get a snare behind a lobster and into your boat.

Well done! And what a heck of a ledge at towards the end of this video! Wow!

I didn’t even know this was legal…

I didn’t think you could use a speargun out of the water OR spear a fish inside of a nice marina basin like this? But I guess those are Florida rules…

But either way, pretty wild stuff.

It’s not every day that you get a chance to spear a Yellowfin Tuna off of a marina dock like this, so if it was legal, I certainly can’t blame the guy for taking the shot.

The notes say that this was in Dana Point, California (where I presume they have different spearfishing laws than Florida).

And here is a Disclaimer from the YouTube Video:

Disclaimer: Shooting a finfish without being in the water and swimming is illegal. We do not condone illegal activity. This was posted not to celebrate the catch, but to show the unusual event of a yellowfin tuna in the Dana Point Harbor.

The Big Question: Assuming you shot this nice Yellowfin Tuna, would you eat it?

I have to imagine that the fish doesn’t exactly have a “Natural” diet if it is living or spending a bunch of time in a marina basin. Can you say “Poo Particles”! Haha.

The notorious “Honey Badger” and the “Lionfish Killer” have a few things in common…

  1. They don’t care!
  2. They are crazy
  3. They are both bada$$

Now back to our friend the Alex Fogg, the one and only “Lionfish Killer”.

If you haven’t seen Alex on our site before, here are two of his most shared videos:

  • “The Ultimate Lionfish Killer Video” (watch it here)
  • “The Lionfish Killer Fights A Goliath Grouper Over An AJ!” (watch it here)

And in this Double Feature Presentation below (you can see the video from both Alex’s and Mark’s perspectives), Alex Fogg and Mark Miller find a shrimp boat off of Mississippi that has dozens of 5-7 foot Blacktip and Spinner Sharks feeding off of the shrimp boat’s “bycatch”.

It is nothing short of a crazy shark feeding frenzy!

Of course, most people that came across something like this would simply stick their GoPro in the water ( most likely attached to a long GoPro pole so they don’t have to put their hand in the water) and get some footage.

But The Lionfish Killer, He Don’t Care!

He and Mark jump in, get some wild shark feeding frenzy footage, and The Lionfish Killer even has to push a shark away near the 3:24 mark in this first video!

Make sure to watch til the end as The Lionfish Killer even pulls up a Massive Amberjack toward the end (you can see him spear the Amberjack in the second video below)

This guy really is bada$$!

Note: No Sharks were harmed in any way in this video

And don’t forget to see Alex’s view from his GoPro below.

Towards the end of the second video below, you get to see Alex plucking off Lionfish and shooting his monster Amberjack.

Awesome job gents!

First of all, for any of you that aren’t familiar with the term “Stone” or “Stoned” in spearfishing, let me clarify the meaning real quick.

To Stone a Fish: (aka “Kill Shot”, aka “The Fish Goes Lifeless like a Stone”): To properly stone a fish, your spear shot needs to break the fish’s spine or hit its brain. It might sound like a negative connotation, but stoning a fish is actually much better for the fish in terms of a quick death, and it is much better for the habitat and the diver (as a wounded fish can drag your spear all over coral, they can run into things, and they have even been known to attack divers, etc.).

In this video below of a guy spearing a MONSTER Roosterfish in Panama, he gets an amazing shot (certainly hitting part of the rooster fish’s spine), and with what appears little resistance from one of the greatest fighting fish in the sea, brings it up for dinner.

I had to watch this video a couple of times just to grasp how many different types of fish species made an appearance. At last count, I am over 27 different fish species, and I am certain there are many more…

This video is from the crew over at Terra Australis, the same guys that brought us the video, “Diver Feeds Seal and Stingray Kisses Him For It!” (you can watch that video here next).

And in this “Freediving Compilation” video, they brought together a bunch of their very best clips all into one.

Everything from Goliath Grouper, Great White encounters, Tuna, Whales, reef fish, you name it, they are in this video.

Also, if you are wondering what happened to the diver that had to get his mask ripped off in the middle of this video, he suffered what is called a “Freediving Blackout” where he literally blacked out while down about 90 feet. Thankfully his mates were there to pull him up and help him get his senses back. Wow!

Great job on this video Terra Australis!

Can you imagine going spearfishing and coming up to the surface to see a big yacht zooming right by your dive flag?

What if it happened a second time where they yacht came incredibly close to running you over!

Sounds crazy, but this spearfisherman caught a wild scene on his GoPro while surfacing to get his next breath…

And it is a pretty darn scary scene.

Watch this video a couple of times to see just how close this big yacht comes to churning up some divers! I can only guess the captain had the boat on “auto-pilot” and wasn’t looking at what was ahead of him.

Scary stuff! Especially when you consider just how fast these yachts are moving, in conjunction with how deep their hulls go (so it isn’t as easy as ducking under the water a second or two before impact).
