Well the Roi Fish (aka the Peacock Grouper) is an invasive species of fish (similar to the Lionfish in the Gulf of Mexico) that is destroying reefs and underwater habitats in and around the Hawaiin Islands by eating everything in sight, with no serious natural predators.
The guy is singlehandedly responsible for more of the invasive lionfish deaths than any human in the Gulf of Mexico, and we should all be thanking him for his work and dedication.
In this video below, Alex teams up with the “Reef Rangers” to set some new records at the FGCU Lionfish Derby 2015 recently held in Ft. Myers, Florida.
And as you will see, Alex and his cohorts pile on the lionfish death toll once again… while also winning the lionfish derby with the most lionfish bagged, the largest lionfish, and the smallest lionfish.
Great job Alex, Meaghan, Allie, and Eric!

A few weeks ago we had a spearfishing video that went crazy viral called, “This Is What Happens When A 150lb AJ Comes Head On With A Diver!” (watch it here if you never saw it).
It had no English words, yet all of us could easily explain what happened.
Well this video is very similar.
All in Italian, all underwater, yet it won’t be hard for you to understand how awesome it would be to ambush a fish like this while freediving.
I won’t ruin it for you, but let’s just say the both the diver and the fish (the fish was an Orata, aka Sea Bream found in the Meditteranean) were a bit surprised… but of course only one of them had a spear gun…
POW!

We have seen some wild spearfishing videos in the past month, and this one is right up there at the top.
In fact, the last video we posted similar to this one was shared like crazy! It was called, “Shark Steals Diver’s Fish And Then Steals His Speargun!” (watch it here if you never saw it).
Of course, this video below was a bit unique in that the fish that was actually speared ran away with the speargun instead of a shark stealing a free meal.
For a split second, you can actually see that the Grouper is completely stunned (probably wondering if he is dead or alive), then realizes he can still move, and then he bolts for the closest Grouper hole with the spear running through his body!
For all of you wondering, the diver, Mariosko CY, confirmed that he did recover BOTH the 30lb Grouper and the Speargun. He was able to follow the grouper to a nearby rock, grab the spear shaft, and bring the grouper back up for a delicious dinner.

We have seen some pretty amazing viral fishing videos this year since my brother and I started Salt Strong.
What’s funny is that it is shockingly hard to predict which fishing videos will actually go Viral.
Some of the videos that I am certain will go viral don’t take off like I thought they would, while others that I would never would have bet money on, end up taking off. However, every now and I then I predict one perfectly (but it is rare).
At the end of the day, you just never know what the majority of people are going to find so amazing they just have to share.
All we can do is keep showing off the very best viral fishing videos and letting you decide.
Finally, since we officially took our site SaltStrong.comon January 1st of this year, it made complete sense to do a Top 10 Most Viral Fishing Videos for the first 6 months of the year.
Because let’s face it, unless you have been coming to our site every day since January, you might have missed a few of these. And there are some pretty sick fishing videos in this list below.

I’ve said it a thousand times…the craziest college students in any college in America are usually members of the Spearfishing Club…
Actually I’ve never once said that…until today.
The Florida Atlantic University Spearfishing Club is crazy (in a good way of course)!
I came across this awesome video on YouTube where these college kids are spearfishing Cobia off the backs of Bull Sharks, and I just had to share it!
They don’t just get a single cobia or see just a single Bull Shark while free diving, they get tons of them!
Whatever area in South Florida they filmed all of this is simply loaded with nice Cobia and big Bull Sharks.
The fact that none of the Bull Sharks go crazy from the blood in the water surprised me, but I guess the sharks were glad that the spearfishermen weren’t aiming at them.
Well done Florida Atlantic University Spearfishing Club! Well done.
Spearing Cobia is hard enough as it is, but you guys brought it to an entire new game by spearfishing Cobia off the backs of Bull Sharks!

I’m still not exactly sure what just went down in this video below (because it isn’t in English), but all I know is that I must share this crazy spearfishing footage with you (as I’m pretty sure you are going to like it).
It’s kind of like one of those old Chinese martial arts movies where you can have it on mute and still understand the entire movie… but at the same time walk away wondering, “What the heck did I just see that guy do?”
Here are just a handful of reasons that the Spearfisherman in this video is NUTS:
He is diving in dark caves with a dinky light
He is diving in dark caves all by himself (no dive buddy for any of this footage that I can tell)
He grabs numerous octopuses (or “Octopis” if you are into the brevity thing) with his hands, but then shoots the smallest fish I have ever seen with his spear
At the end, he aims his speargun right near his face just to get a selfie (his GoPro is mounted to his speargun, and in his defense, it appears as though he has some safety mechanisms in place)
Make sure to watch til the very end as he eventually shows off his entire kill for the day. No doubt he ate a lot of octopus that evening (and one very small fish).
I was holding my breath a couple of times during this video (when he was down in the cave, and around the 4:00 mark when the octopus was wrapping itself around the spear-end of the speargun.
