When I first saw the thumbnail to this video, I really did think it was an oil spill. I had just never seen anything like this on a beach (or anywhere for that matter).

But no, this is the largest bait pod of anchovies ever!

Here is the info from the video:

An aggregation of anchovy amassed near Scripps Pier at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego in La Jolla, Calif. on July 8, 2014. Footage from Scripps Pier by Scripps staff and underwater by Scripps graduate students Julia Fiedler, Sean Crosby and Bonnie Ludka

Pretty cool where you can actually see either a shark or a human in the middle of each circle in the huge pod.

Kind of reminds me of the Florida mullet run.

If you never saw that video, “The Craziest Mullet Run Ever Captured On Film”, you must watch that one next here.

Even though Cocos Island off of Costa Rica is a protected marine habitat, illegal fisherman have been known to come into the rich waters to fish.

Sadly, one of their heavy duty fishing lines not only was tangled all around this large manta ray, but it even burned right into its flesh.

Fortunately for the manta ray, some amazing divers saw the issue and came to the rescue.

Make sure to stick around to the very end to see what the manta ray does to thank them.

Pretty cool!

If you have ever caught a stone crab before, you know to stay away from their vice-like grip like the plague.

The stone crab’s claws can get huge, and once they grab one to something, it can be a battle to get them to release their grip.

And although stone crabs are known to be slower movers compared to some other crabs (probably because they have to carry around claws that weigh more than the rest of their bodies), if a stone crab gets a hold of your finger, you won’t forget the experience.

In fact, a stone crab has enough power to easily break your finger if it gets ahold of it at the right angle.

So when we saw this video of a Texas guy putting his bare hands down in the mud to yank out stone crabs, we thought the guy had no fear (and still do by the way).

And if you are wondering why he only took one claw, it is actually state law that you leave one claw on a stone crab so it can defend itself, kill fish for food, etc as it is not the type of crab that is harvested for its full body.

Patrick Rhea of LivitFilms and his drone flying stud partner Nick Shirghio have done it again!

They have somehow produced back to back saltwater inshore fishing video masterpieces that certainly land each of the videos up in the rankings of top inshore fishing videos of all time.

After coming off a Grand Slam hit video called, “Fishing in our Soul” with Jill’s Cashbox featuring Salt Strong (in our humble opinion the best saltwater inshore video of all time), Patrick and Nick Shirghio hit another home run with Eleven Angling: Bluemoon Expeditions out of Islamorada, Florida with their fly fishing video at the bottom of this page.

Just wait until you see the tarpon footage! Amazing.

But first…

Perhaps The Best Saltwater Inshore Fishing Video Ever Created.

You can download the song “Fishing in our Soul” by Jill’s Cashbox on iTunes by clicking here.

Next, make sure to check out Patrick and Nick’s other over the top video in the last 30 days below.

If you have even been fishing while cameras are rolling, you know that it rarely turns out like this with Tarpon hitting your fly just feet away from the camera and boat. Amazing job!

Enjoy!

It’s a Fact: Men with beards can do things that non-bearded men can’t do.

Small feats such as catching fish faster, drinking beer faster, and even swimming faster all happen when boys become men and grow facial hair known as beards.

And as you will see in the video below, beards also enable men to do things like catching trout with your bare hands.

Regardless if this was staged or not, Doug the bearded angler is the Man!

Did I shock you by switching out my standard “Pa-POW” with a “BOOM”?

Hope so, because this amazing redfish video deserves a big ol’ bang.

I can’t wait for you to see the drone footage and the underwater footage where you get to see the grass flats from the redfish’s perspective.

Pretty sick!

This AFTCO redfish video was done in part with Yeti Coolers and Shimano Fishing, and this is just one of their 4-part short video series filmed by Jason Arnold and edited by Bradford Graham.

The Florida captain in the video is AFTCO Pro Capt. Alonzo Sotillo.

Amazing job AFTCO and team!

This will make anyone want to go out and catch some redfish this week.

Enjoy.

If you have ever spent any amount of time fishing, then you have probably either personally said or heard someone else say, “It was like fishing with dynamite out there”. Or perhaps on a day where you see tons of fish but can’t get them to bite, “The only way we are getting these fish in our boat is with a hand grenade”.

Well turns out the Russians wanted to actually test this out and beat America at hand grenade fishing, so they gave it a whirl with two of their most qualified men.

I won’t ruin what happens, but let’s just say you want to stick around for the full video to watch the scene in Sl0-mo as well.

Speechless.

Kill Roi?

Why you ask?

Well the Roi Fish (aka the Peacock Grouper) is an invasive species of fish (similar to the Lionfish in the Gulf of Mexico) that is destroying reefs and underwater habitats in and around the Hawaiin Islands by eating everything in sight, with no serious natural predators.

So when Perrin James (the same guy that produced “Polespearing, Shipwrecks, and Crystal Blue Water” – watch that one here) was asked to film an amazing documentary on Killing Roi with TopShot Spearfishing, he was all in.

And he and the TopShot Spearfishing team killed it (pun intended) in this video.

Great job to all that participated in helping clean out some of these invasive fish.

Watch out Kevin VanDam, there is a new “Fish Whisperer” in town…

And there is a new “Freshwater Friday” video for your enjoyment!

This is the same guy that caught an estimated 12-pound bass by hand that was shared all over Facebook, but the majority of people didn’t believe him because it was filmed on a really bad camera angle, and you never see him dangling the minnow first. All you really got to see was him yanking a monster bass out of the water with his hand.

So he did another video where the camera angle was over his shoulder so you could see the entire catching bass by hand routine from start to finish.

Pretty awesome stuff! Still a bit crazy to think this guy can catch 10lb+ bass by hand when most Americans never break through the 10lb+ on a rod and reel.

You might also notice the sign behind the “hand-angler” that says catch and release only by hand, so this clearly ain’t this guys first bass rodeo.

Amazing job!
