I remember loving to hit up the Crystal River and Homosassa Springs area as a kid because our parents would take us on the glass-bottom boat tours to see everything below the surface.

As a young kid it was so cool to see the fish, manatees, and other marine life down below while we sat up in the boat.

Well, fast forward til’ today and there is a company that came out with a “glass-bottom kayak”.

The company is called “Crystal Kayak Company,” and the entire kayak is see through.

It’s pretty cool, but the one thing I do see that is missing are some rod holders…

I’ve got to admit, it would be pretty sweet to see the fish under the kayak while fishing the flats or any clear water.

You could be on to something here Crystal Kayak, but if you want to really attract a bunch of anglers, then add some rod holders in your next round of yaks.

It appears that sharks and fishermen have something in common…

While hunting or fishing mode, don’t ride your wave runner right on top of us!

And as you can see in this video, the shark appears to be in a shallow water hunting mode and this jet ski was aiming right for him.

Can’t really blame him for coming up and taking a bite.

Here are the notes from the incident:

“My wife and I were on our Yamaha FX Cruiser jetski touring up the western side of Fraser Island, we noticed a shadow in the water and realised in was a rather large shark. We decided to get a little closer to take some video footage and we clearly got a little too close! No one was injured although the jetski did get some small scuff marks where the shark contacted the ski.”

“Dude, we don’t wet a line on a Shabbos…”

This might be the coolest fly fishing video ever made!

There is nothing better than seeing how fish approach, react, and attack an artificial lure underwater.

Interesting to note that some of the strikes happened while the lure was speeding up, while others (like at the 3:47 mark) happened when the lure was slowing down and about to hit the floor.

What’s so cool about this video is that not only can we learn a lot about catching fish by seeing underwater attack footage, but it is also insanely addictive to watch (I watched this video a couple of times in a row).

Speaking of roe, did you see all of the salmon roe (eggs) flying everywhere the salmon hit the lure! Sushi time!

And if you are wondering what “Dollies” are, a “Dolly Varden Trout” is a species of salmonid (includes salmon, trout, chars, etc) that can be found in cold-water streams near the Pacific.

I’ve got a question relating to cobia…

Why can’t cobia hang around nurse sharks instead of bull sharks? Haha.

I guess if they did, way too many freedivers would be prone to spearing them.

But no amount of sharks bothered our good friend Joey Antonelli and his crew (Scott Fricker & Nick Furrow) this summer.

Wait until you see how many cobia they were able to harvest this summer all while dealing with a crazy amount of sharks.

Here is a note from Joey on this video:

All the fish in this video were speared out of Sebastian inlet in 40ft – 100ft. I did experience my most memorable shark encounter. That was when Nick Furrow and I jumped in on a 12 foot Tiger Shark that was eating a Sea Turtle, so that we could shoot a Cobia that was following the Tiger Shark around. Nick shot the Cobia and we landed it from the boat.

Ever heard of “The Hottest Bite?”

Apparently, it’s a new YouTube-based fishing show where pro angler Tyler Kapela and model Marissa Everhart go around the world to discover exotic locations, explore diverse cultures, and catch some lunker fish.

So far, they only have four videos up on their channel, and they are all pretty short (but action-packed).

I’ll be interested to see if they get enough attention for a full-length show or keep doing the shorts.

But one thing is for certain is that they have more content coming…

I saw on Capt. Nick Stanczyk’s Instagram page that Tyler and Marissa were out daytime swordfishing this week, and I’m certain they got some amazing footage with Capt. Nick.

Remember last week when we published a blog asking if fishing was a sport or hobby? (see that post here)

Well, I think after you see this video below, we can all agree that fishing is a sport.

Watching this was giving me flashbacks of “Old Man And The Sea!”

Both the tarpon and the man were physically whipped… neither of them wanting to give up, give in, or accept defeat.

After one hour and 40 minutes of Man vs. Tarpon, they both win as man gets to touch the leader for a catch, while the tarpon gets to live another day with a quick release next to the boat.

The angler in the video is Harri Hotti, and you could tell he was used to being out there in his Maverick flats boat alone fighting silver kings.

Amazing fight!

Not only did our friends Rob Chapman (from Outdoors 360) and Sam Root (from Salty Shores) capture some amazing drone footage of a massive school of redfish, but they also captured some sick aerial strikes!

Pa-POW!

Because the only thing cooler than seeing a school of bull reds is actually seeing someone catch one!

Watch as Capt. Jon Lulay, Rob Chapman, and Blair Ashton have an awesome time tossing spoons into this monster school of redfish while Sam Root films from above.

So cool to see how these fish react to a fast moving lure when they are cruising in a school.

The redfish that Rob caught in the video came in at 44-inches long and weighed 32 pounds. What a beast!

Not only are porpoises smart, but they also like to have some fun!

Just wait until you see what they did to some unsuspecting tourists in the video below.

Either these porpoise didn’t want to be filmed that day or they don’t like pink iPads… either way, pretty funny to see this on film.

The best part was shortly after the pink iPad gets pulled in the water by one dolphin, another dolphin comes by and sprays the lady filming it!

Talk about teamwork!

Make sure to listen to the very end as the young guy on the microphone talking to the crowd is pretty funny… “As you can see, the dolphins can reach your loose items…” (I can only imagine he was trying his best not to laugh on the PA system).
