Post-Cold Front Fishing In Tampa Bay [Fishing Report]

I got the chance to go fishing after a cold front in Tampa Bay with Insider Member Tony Prescott last week!

It was CHILLY riding the boat out to the spot on this trip.

But that didn’t stop us from hunting an inshore slam.

Shallow Water Setup

A big front just came through our area but we picked a day with lots of sunshine.

Our hopes were that the sun would help warm up the water as the day went on.

I started off throwing the Power Prawn USA Junior in deeper areas as we worked our way in to the shallows.

Due to the colder temperatures, we thought it would be a good idea to fish in wind-protected creeks.

We were just gently bouncing our lures along the bottom in roughly six feet of water.

Later on, the sun poked out through the clouds and the water warmed up a bit.

So we moved over to a nearby flat and started skipping shrimp lures underneath the mangroves.

After reeling in a few fish, the trick on this trip was letting the shrimp lure fall to the bottom and slowly reeling it out from the mangroves.

We didn’t see any BIG fish until we got to a super skinny stretch of water where the fish were sunning themselves.

We ended up hooking into some decent fish but decided to leave with the thought of coming back later on.

Sometimes giving the fish some time to relax and find their staging area again will get them to strike the second time around.

As was the case on this trip as I hooked into something really nice when we returned.

Conclusion

As temperatures cool down, it can get tougher to find the fish.

But it becomes easier to identify the types of spots the fish will most likely be in.

The 90/10 Fishing Rule is in full effect during the wintertime.

Find spots with deeper water that fish can escape to and areas with lots of sun exposure will hold fish later in the day!!
