Shallow water anchoring systems have changed the way we fish, even for kayak and SUP anglers. Are they worth it? I use my Power-Pole Micro primarily in saltwater conditions, and in this review, I’ll share my objective thoughts after 2 years of use.

Power Pole Micro Review Summary
The Power-Pole Micro is a solid inshore fishing investment, and it’s a great way to anchor yourself in shallow water. If it’s in your budget, I’d say it’s a fantastic investment on your boat. The weight, ease of use, and the overall return for what it does for you is absolutely worth all of it.
Truthfully, I don’t know how I fished without it now that I have one. Every one of my shallow water fishing vessels—my microskiff and all three of my kayaks—has a Power Pole Micro. So, with all of those things considered, the outstanding customer service, and even considering that they are made here in the United Stated in Tampa, Florida is just another bonus.
If you guys aren’t familiar with the Power-Pole Micro and you’re looking for a new way to anchor your vessel or maybe upgrade the existing system that you have (I went from an anchor trolley to this) I can tell you that this is an awesome upgrade. So, if that’s something you’re looking to do as well, I would definitely recommend it.

ive had nothing but trouble from this powerpole 2. haven’t used it ten hours before it went out. now, i have ordered a replacement cpu board. cannot get the cap back on, it’s like it is designed not to be able to replace the cap. the little membrane and the cap is a absolute nightmare to get to line up. the cap simply will not clip in. wish i could get my money back for this p.o.s.
Great review Matt! I bought mine about 3 years ago and figured out a way to use a trolling motor mount and mounted mine to my cooler on the back of my Sea Doo Fish Pro! I luv it and have had zero problems so far (knock on wood).
That is awesome! Love the ingenuity! Thanks for sharing that! We appreciate you watching, J.D.!
Great video, Matt. I have been on the fence about the power pole but after Power Pole doing a presentation at my last chapter meeting and your review, I’ll be getting a power pole for my skiff when I get one next year! Thanks
Awesome! Those mIcros are clutch when in windy conditions! when really windy, it can be really tough to get a good stick with a manual anchor pin, but the Micro, with its electric deployment, it sticks every time without issue! Thanks for watching!
I had a Power Pole Micro. The biggest challenge with it versus an Anchor Pin is that it is a single point of contact anchoring system that doesn’t allow you to adjust your vessel position relative to the current flow direction. An Anchor Pin and Trolley can. With the Micro if you have a side or front current your kayak or skiff simply spins around following the current. Can’t tell you how many times I found myself casting over my shoulders. With an Anchor Pin with Trolley you simply pull on the Trolley cable and adjust your vessel position so that you’re always facing in the preferred direction.
Your correct Joe. That is a drawback of having only one power pole micro on a vessel. And at the price, it’s hard to want to buy two. Lol
Thx for watching! 💪
How does positioning work with this setup vs using an anchor pin and anchor trolley combo?
Truthfully, in maintain a position they work very similar. When talking about n maintaining a direction, they differ in that you can control your direction with an anchor trolley and are at the mercy of current and wind with the power pole.
I don’t often sit still positioned in heavy current so it’s not a huge factor for me. I stay moving now than sitting still anyways. I like to anchor when I’ve hooked a fish so I don’t get pulled into a school and so I can maintain control of the fish. I hope that helps buddy!
Thx for watching!
I think your review of the PP micro would closely match my views of regular PP on my skiff. While not being the first piece of add-on equipment if limited by budget constraints, they’re very helpful if able to financially swing it.
Nailed it Rob! Maybe not the most important, when you do add one, it’s a game changer! 💪
Yea well spending alot of money on something that just anchors the boat or yak isn’t feasible to me I use a stick it pin system that mounts to my motor mount only costs 210 bucks with shipping amd it’s good for about 8 ft of depth very simple system that has no maintanace or batteries or even holes needed to be drilled for mounting very cheap and economical and works just the same all that money you spent on that system could buy gas for my outboard motor enough for probably 6 months of fishing anyways just saying I like what I use because it works and is paid for what others use or buy is there buissness I only speak for myself thanks for the review and all you do
Totally understand! It’s s hard investment to make!
That you are unable to change the orientation to the wind and/or current to face where you are casting seems to be an issue.
You’re correct, Ronald. That is true, if you have one of them. If you have 2 (just as you would in a boat), you can actually hold direction. I know it’s not feasible for most, myself included, but that isn’t really a knock on the system itself and the way it performs. There are mounting options for people who have invested in two for a single kayak but I am not one of those people… yet. Maybe that could be worth doing a video on… what you think?
But, you are correct, if only using one power pole micro, you are at the mercy of current and wind.
