Question, I am fair at skip casting . Fish under mangroves 90% of the time. Question I have is that after watching and trying many techniques I found that the twirl of the lure or bait fish off 12″ or so length from tip of rod seems to give me flatter and better then the straight side casting as in this video. But, in certain angles I also find that the way you are tossing the lure works better for accuracy. Interesting adapting to different situations. BTW, main problem with both is getting the big boys out of the mangroves before they get tangled up underneath. Have actually had to get off the boat and walk into the mangroves to free the fish for release. I try to lead them out before they hit but it seems the smaller ones follow the big boys are to smart Any opinion or just keep doing what I’m doing? I do have a bunch of your rods, love them, even bought the medium/heavy version in the hopes that I would be more successful. I have a bunch of slot machines and bought two of your slam stick (medium heavy) for false albacore up north in the summer.
Hey Gabriel, my apologies for taking so long to respond. The skip cast from a kayak can be tough, but it’s much easier if you have a rod with a short butt that won’t get caught up in your shirt when doing a side arm cast. Another tip is to stand up in the kayak when you’re fishing so you can more easily cast with the rod tip near the water… but that can be tough in some of the thinner kayaks or if fishing in rough water.
