Hey Salt Strong Nation!
If you’re looking for a fun (and cooler) way to catch redfish, trout and snook this summer, night fishing under dock lights is hard to beat.
In this on-the-water breakdown, Capt. Peter Deeks takes you along for a real-time lesson on what separates a productive dock light from the duds.
No scouting. No prep. Just a casual trip into an area he hadn’t fished in over 15 years, and on the very first light that looked promising… well, watch the video to find out!

Looks peaceful and quiet.
Yea Capt pete I’ll admit to me night fishing is the way to go in fact because I had been consistently begging saltstrong to do a night fishing coarse i wouldn’t be surprised if my complaints were the key element in there decision to finally make a night fishing coarse and its crazy how effective night fishing can be not to mention cooler and with very little if any fishing pressure but im consistently meeting other anglers that are just launching there boats when I am returning after night fishing around 10 to noon at the latest because me being a mich Yankee I can’t take the heat like you southern boys can but it’s amazing when I ask these other anglers that I run into that most all say they never fish at night and always have so m e stupid excuse as to why not like my wife won’t let me or I can’t see good at night and so on and so I usually just tell them how much better it is at night and no competition but most just look at Mr like im crazy that is until they see what’s in my livewell and I’ll tell you it sure isn’t bait im an all lure angler and can’t throw a cast net if my life depended on it and also hate the hassel and not to mention the stink of using live or dead bait plus using bait is a waiting game I like to be consistently on the move covering alot of water seeking out the fish thats how I find them instead of just sitting in one spot for an extended period of time waiting and hoping something will take my stinky offering that I spent time and money on in buying and or preparing and or keeping it alive no need for all that hassel with lures but thats my way of thinking and besides if others don’t want to listen or care about my advice to them that’s fine why you ask? Simple more for me ha ha🤔 anyways Capt yes I have watched the whole coarse and find it interesting that the bigger fish are usually shallow but I have found that to be very accurate because in all the hundreds of fish I have caught under docks the majority are always located under the shallow end as compared to the little guys thanks for tge intel and all you do😉👍
I need to start fishing at night! Thanks!
How important are the tides( high tide, low tide, rising or falling) when dock fishing or is it ” all about the lights” in the water
Having some water movement is very important.. the ideal direction is often dependent on the lights that you’re fishing.
My personal favorite is the bottom half of the outgoing tide since it is often pushing lots of shrimp/bait out while the predator fish are being forced towards the deeper sections of the dock.
Great video and advice
That looks like fun! Definitely going to try it! Thanks Captain!
Thanks for the awesome advice and video. I will definitely try this next time I go out. I have fished lights before but never tried the shallow sides. Slam Shady really does work for me!! Thanks and Tight Lines!!! 🎣🎣🎣
Just getting ready to install underwater lights on our dock in Cedar Key.
will be doing this thanks
Excellent tips, Deeks
