Step By Step Walkthrough: Start shopping on Sportsmans Guide, check out as GUEST, use your Salt Strong billing information and a free Buyers Club Membership will be automatically added to your order.
- Click here to start shopping as a Guest
- During check out, choose “Guest Checkout” DO NOT accept any offers to “Start” a Buyers Club Membership during this process.
- In the “Billing Address Section” use your EXACT Salt Strong Insider last name, email address, and billing zip code (along with the other required fields).
- After information is entered, the system will recognize you as a Salt Strong Insider, and it will add a free Buyers Club membership to your order. Buyers Club benefits will immediately apply to the items in your order.
- Place your order. You have now “purchased” a FREE Sportsmans Guide Buyers Club Membership that will stay active as long as you have an active Salt Strong Insider membership.
- Optional: After check out, you will be prompted to create a “site account” for Sportsmans Guide. You can do so if you wish to easily save your information and make shopping easier in the future.
*You will only have to “purchase” this free membership one time, then the system will recognize you as a Buyers Club Member on all future orders.

- At FishStrong.com, that hasn’t changed. You still have your Salt Strong Insider discounts at FishStrong.com. Sportsmans Guide is for all your other outdoor gear.
Why am I getting a Sportsmans Guide Membership?
- If you missed the big announcement, Salt Strong has now been acquired by Crecera, which also owns Sportsmans Guide. So all of the Salt Strong Insiders now get the Sportsmans Guide Buyers Club benefits included in their membership for free. Hear all about the new partnership here.
Do I need to “Start” my Sportsmans Guide Buyers Club Membership?
- No. DO NOT buy or “start” a Buyers Club Membership. You already have one. However, you CAN create an account on the Sportsmans Guide website that remembers your information, automatically applies your benefits, and makes checkout easier in the future.
Do I pay extra to get the Sportsmans Guide Buyers Club access?
- No. You will get a free membership added to your cart on your first purchase, and it will be valid for as long as you maintain an active Salt Strong Insider membership.

Will I receive emails, notifications, and promotions from Sportsmans Guide?
- No. If you want to opt in to receive marketing communications from Sportsmans Guide, you can do so at checkout.
Do I need to create an account with Sportsmans Guide?
- This is optional, but recommended. Do this AFTER you place your first order. An “account” is different than a Buyers Club membership. The account is so the site recognizes you right away, and makes for a seamless shopping experience. I have followed the instructions and cannot seem to get this to work. What’s the best way to get assistance with this process?
So some work, others not so much…I’m in the latter and was going to buy some gifts here, but now, No…I’ve wasted enough of my life trying to do this!….UGH!
Hey John, Give us a call if you have any issues. We’re here to help. As long as the email and shipping address you use on SG is the same as SS, you should never see any issues. The only issues we’ve come across is when someone uses the wrong email or has an address change. We appreciate you.
I just did the Guest Checkout and it provided the membership rate. It was all quick and easy. Perfect way to get some of my Christmas shopping out of the way.

Yeah, that isn’t working.
Regarding the SG process, I also had some difficulty ordering the first time and having the membership reflect accurately. It did finally work. My biggest issue was after the order – had to return a few items, but the order wasn’t showing up in my account. After many days of chatting with customer service promising the issue was fixed (each attempt required me to wait 24 hrs and then log in again to check status, and mind you, I could never get a live person on the phone!), it was finally resolved – 3 weeks later. And now, items I wanted to exchange are no longer available.
The return process is equally cumbersome, with multiple attempts at the simple things, like printing a shipping label. Having to repeat steps constantly because their website is subpar is very frustrating. And there is a shipping fee for whatever you send back, and they decide if it’s “bulky” and unilaterally assess a double fee for returns. I guess I didn’t read the fine print carefully enough, so that’s on me; however, not a great look for this transition!

Update here: Today is Black Friday. I’m definitely not out shopping because I’d rather be fishing than braving that! And when I get a call from an 800 number while on the water, I never answer. But today, for whatever reason, I did. Turns out it was Pat from SG. He was calling me to address the issues I just posted here two hours ago. He apologized and committed to resolving them, even offered me his contact info for any future challenges (I’ll be looking for that email!). His words: “this day and age, you have to stand out from the competition. You can buy anywhere, so it’s about service.” Either Salt Strong has some serious juice here, or they truly are committed to being better. I think it’s both!
However this message got to the right place, I am grateful. Thank you, SS and SG. My faith is restored! One more thing to be thankful for this holiday. 😊

How can I verify linkage of my Salt Strong and Sportsman’s Guide accounts? I’ve been a SG member since 8/23/2010. I’m a Lifer w/ SS.
I followed process A above, and as I expected, it didn’t work – repeatedly. Wasted time out of my life. I tried Process B above, made a purchase as a guest, order is on the way. BUT, there’s not easy way to determine if the accounts are actually linked. Can you or somebody confirm this?

I tried to make a purchase of the new Quantum Cabo reel which is on back order. After I entered all the same identifying info I use with SS including zip, last name and email I got as far as putting in my credit card info but no discount was applied. Do I have to make that step before I see the discount. I don’t want want to go as far as making the purchase unless I first see the discount. I may reach out to SG customer service this week.
No to your question. I encountered same problem and unsure, like you, as whether last step in check out would allow me to see discounted price. SS Melissa got SGBC Mark involved. It was a technical glitch on the SGBC side. Mark had to setup a temp password for my account while he performed his magic, and I then reset it. Now see discounted price once the item is placed in cart.
