Step By Step Walkthrough: Start shopping on Sportsmans Guide, check out as GUEST, use your Salt Strong billing information and a free Buyers Club Membership will be automatically added to your order.
- Click here to start shopping as a Guest
- During check out, choose “Guest Checkout” DO NOT accept any offers to “Start” a Buyers Club Membership during this process.
- In the “Billing Address Section” use your EXACT Salt Strong Insider last name, email address, and billing zip code (along with the other required fields).
- After information is entered, the system will recognize you as a Salt Strong Insider, and it will add a free Buyers Club membership to your order. Buyers Club benefits will immediately apply to the items in your order.
- Place your order. You have now “purchased” a FREE Sportsmans Guide Buyers Club Membership that will stay active as long as you have an active Salt Strong Insider membership.
- Optional: After check out, you will be prompted to create a “site account” for Sportsmans Guide. You can do so if you wish to easily save your information and make shopping easier in the future.

I tried to make a purchase of the new Quantum Cabo reel which is on back order. After I entered all the same identifying info I use with SS including zip, last name and email I got as far as putting in my credit card info but no discount was applied. Do I have to make that step before I see the discount. I don’t want want to go as far as making the purchase unless I first see the discount. I may reach out to SG customer service this week.
No to your question. I encountered same problem and unsure, like you, as whether last step in check out would allow me to see discounted price. SS Melissa got SGBC Mark involved. It was a technical glitch on the SGBC side. Mark had to setup a temp password for my account while he performed his magic, and I then reset it. Now see discounted price once the item is placed in cart.

Hey Brian! These are two completely separate companies and clubs. No changes to how you buy your products from Fish Strong (at http://www.fishstrong.com). You now get free membership at Sportsman’s Guide ON TOP of your membership at Salt Strong. So you won’t see our products on their site (at least not for now). Does that make sense?
Joe, what you said makes sense. When it comes to reels, a bit more murky. SGBC is offering some of the same Daiwa reels at a discount that are offered by SS at full MSRP. Supposedly, SS didn’t want to upset Daiwa by offering discounts and Luke also justified it by wanting to bring other reel manufacturers to SS. Since the owner (Crevera Brands) is entitled to the profits of its subsidiaries, presumably SS members should buy from the company offering the best price. Maybe this will have SS reconsider reel discounts as it’s hard to foresee why Daiwa would be upset with SS but not SG. It seems SGBC gets around the issue by not showing the discounted price until it’s in their member’s cart. Any update on whether Luke is still planning to bring in more reel mfgs?
Is there not a way get activate the free membership to sportsman‘s guide without having to make a purchase? I think you could have planned for that in your merger.
Hey Mark, you automatically have a free membership to SG right now. You are in their system. However, just like any membership, you must use it to officially activate it. But no rush. It’s there when you need it.
So the registration is not time limited… I can place an initial order seven months from now and will still have my free sportsman guide membership?
Correct. Registration is NOT limited. You can place an initial order in 7 months with no issues (as long as you’re still an active Insider member).
Mark, the problem I found if waiting is that a good number of items do not show the discounted price until placed in your cart, and you have to be a member. I also ran into SGBC technical glitches resulting in taking two business days to resolve. I’m now a member without buying anything, and in a position to act quickly on a limited time sale item, and also see discounted prices not shown to non-members.
Got signed up successfully. If you don’t want to buy anything, just put something into your cart, fill out the billing information matching Salt Strong info, it will add the membership to your cart, then edit your cart to remove the item you don’t want to purchase, and now you can check out with only the free membership.
