Why Your “Perfect” Looking Fishing Spots Still Don’t Produce

Have you ever pulled up to a spot that looked absolutely perfect… only to leave scratching your head after catching nothing?

The shoreline looked fishy.

The dock looked like a sure thing.

The oyster bar screamed redfish.

Yet the bites never came.

And here’s the catch. The spot does matter.

But most anglers are only seeing cover, not structure… or they’re fishing one without the other.

Structure and cover aren’t the same thing.

This video was made to help you stop randomly searching for fish and start understanding why certain spots consistently hold them.

When you learn how structure and cover work together, you spend less time guessing and more time fishing true 90/10 water.

Final Thoughts

If a spot looks perfect but doesn’t produce, don’t immediately blame your lure or timing.

Ask yourself:

  • Is there structure here?
  • Or am I just fishing cover?

Because when you find structure that funnels fish and cover that holds them, you stop relying on luck and start fishing with confidence.

And let us know in the comments:

Do you usually fish structure, cover or both?

Thank you Tony for the break down and detailed explanation. After watching your video, I realized that most of my fishing has been one or the other, rarely both. That will change and it’s like a missing puzzle piece that was just set in place. Thank you sir!!

Nice video Tony – after watching I realize most of the time I’m fishing either structure(dropoffs, channels) or cover (oyster bars, sea grass). This will challenge me to find spots where both are in play. Thanks!

Thank you Tony for explaining the difference between cover and structure. Ornaments on a tree is a great analogy. I have heard Joe numerous times refer to structure when he was talking about cover. That confused me as I have always understood cover to be the bottom contour and composition and cover as the oyster bars, wood, rock, and weeds.

Tony, what was it that you clicked on that showed cover? I have shaded relief but I wasn’t sure what the other layer you were using was.

Really good video with great info. I definitely was looking at one at a time never added it up how good the both would be. I’ll be putting this to the test.
