Dark-colored lures aren’t a go-to for most inshore anglers.
But they might be overlooking something BIG.
My recent color testing uncovered some surprising results with darker colors, especially Black Ice.
So we decided to bring it to four of our favorite plugs.
Meet the NEW Black Ice lineup.

Why Black Ice?
Dark lure colors are nothing new for nighttime fishing.
They create a strong silhouette that fish can track when there isn’t much light.
But during my recent color testing, I noticed something surprising:
Black Ice was also performing extremely well in the middle of the day.
In some situations, it was even outperforming the lighter colors I was testing.
That was enough to get me thinking…
Why not bring Black Ice to our plugs too?
Four Plugs. One New Color.
We didn’t just put Black Ice on one lure.
We added it to four plugs that cover a wide range of fishing situations.
The Moonwalker is there when fish are aggressive and willing to come up for a topwater.
The Wake Mullet gives you a subsurface option that puts off plenty of vibration, especially when the water gets churned up.
The Skinny Lipper is the all-around option. It casts a mile and gives you a presentation that falls somewhere between a topwater and a jerkbait.
And when conditions are calm or the fish are skittish, the Flea Flicker gives you a smaller suspending presentation.
Same Black Ice color.
Four very different ways to fish it.
Not Just a Low-Light Color
This might be the most interesting part of Black Ice.
You’d expect a dark lure to shine around sunrise, sunset, or at night.
But I’ve also been throwing it during the day.
And it’s catching fish.
On my first trip using the Black Ice Wake Mullet during the day, I caught a cobia along with grouper, mangrove snapper, trout, and redfish.
So while Black Ice gives you that dark silhouette I like in low light, don’t automatically put it away once the sun gets high.
Final Thoughts
Black Ice is officially here.
And you can now get it on the Moonwalker, Wake Mullet, Skinny Lipper, and Flea Flicker.
I’m especially excited to see what happens as more anglers start testing this color in different water conditions, times of day, and fisheries.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the new Black Ice lure color?
Black Ice is a new dark color now available on several Salt Strong plugs. We brought it over to the hard bait lineup after I saw it perform well during soft plastic color testing.
Which lures are available in Black Ice?
Black Ice is currently available on the Moonwalker, Wake Mullet, Skinny Lipper, and Flea Flicker.
Is Black Ice only for nighttime fishing?
No. While dark lure colors can create a strong silhouette at night, I’ve also seen Black Ice perform very well during the middle of the day.
Which Black Ice plug should I use?
It depends on the conditions.
Use the Moonwalker when fish are aggressive and willing to hit topwater, the Wake Mullet when you want more vibration below the surface, the Skinny Lipper as an all-purpose option, and the Flea Flicker when conditions are calm or fish are more skittish.
Where can I get the Black Ice plugs?
The new Black Ice plugs are available through Fish Strong.

I use both black and purple colored lures at night and when early daytime conditions are overcast with no major sunlight shining through the clouds I found out just how productive black and purple can be way back in the early new millenium around 2005 when I first saw a black with gold striped zarra spook jr being sold at a local west marine so I decided to buy it and try it out and after reading articles on night fishing I decided to use the black spook and was impressed on how many fish I caught i just wish they made a small baby spook size in black for my night docklight fishing that I mostly do at night because now that I have downsized my lure selections at night I no longer use topwaters under the docklihhts at night because they are all to big anyways I ordered 2 of your moonwalkers and according to the tracking info they will arrive here by this coming Saturday thanks for the info and all you do😉🤔👍
