Bought my SS TR w/the extra handle but wasn’t able to get the Otis reels (at this time). I can’t wait until the wife, and I hit the road with these beauties.
Need bait caster mh / h ?
Could please tell me the total cost of the full travel combo+reel.Because “The Mean Boss Lady ” might get this for me for a Christmas/birthday present. Thanks
The Slam Stick Travel rod is $191, and the Otis 2500 reel is $120 (both member prices). This combo makes for a very good setup for inshore saltwater fishing.
What is the line rating and the lure rating for the different configurations?
That level of detail is included in the product description section on this page: https://fishstrong.com/products/slam-stick-spinning-rod-travel?_pos=1&_psq=travel&_ss=e&_v=1.0
How much
It’s $239.99 for public, and just $191.99 for members for now at the introductory pricing. The demand has been higher than we had planned for, so the price will likely be going up soon.
Interesting pricing philosophy. With demand exceeding planned sales, raise the price to bring production in line with demand. Saw that recently with the 20% Slot Machine rod increase. An alternate philosophy is to increase production capability which usually results in the marginal cost of production declining due to economies of scale.
An area that remains cloudy is how the Crecera Brands’ acquisition impacts future demand for SS products. For example, will their 300,000 members be able to purchase SS products at a discount? Your stated objective of greatly enlarging the SS membership by expanding beyond saltwater inshore to fresh water and all of the U.S., and hunting, is another decision potentially impacting demand. While branding your own products and relying on brand loyalty can extract premium pricing, I think you’ll find there’s limits to it along the lines of increasing membership fees, only to return to the previous price.
We did not raise the price of the Slam Stick Travel rod for this second batch because we were able to get a much bigger order quantity in this round.
The Crecera members do not automatically get access to Salt Strong Insider Club pricing.
:). You will be increasing price because of higher demand??…
I just can’t believe you said that… 🙂
I am planning a trip to the Northern Rockies for an elk hunt. There are supposed to be several lakes with trout and pike. I would typically need 2 rods for that, but this setup seems ideal! Now I can throw light spinners for trout and after a quick adjustment, some bigger spoons for pike. I was going to buy a Shimano Zodias travel rod, but I was torn on which model to get for multi-species. The answer presented itself. Thanks guys. Looking forward to the flexibility this package will offer.
Looks like this rod came out at the perfect time for you. I hope you’re hunting/fishing trip is an absolute blast.
Thanks Luke. Tight Lines.
Great video awesome presentation and the travel rod and case is impressive…
Thanks Thomas!
Imo, not a lot of difference when comparing ML to M and moderate to fast. Again just my opinion. A more versatile 4 in 1 rod would encompass 4 rods rated for different lure ratings. Say ML, M, MH, H. But I get the difficulty in designing such.
Any Plans for a Medium Heavy Action version?
Yes, I already have a prototype version of the same style travel rod which can switch from Medium to Medium Heavy power. It’ll be in stock later this year assuming that the testing continues to go well similar to how the ML-M version performed in testing done earlier this year.
If you already have the ML/M version, would the MH possibly be add-on sections (still using the original butt section) or would it require a completely new set?
Already have the Toadfish travel spinning rod which includes 5 interchangeable pieces. Seems nearly identical to this one. What are major differences? Guide spacing is presumably one; longer cast given 7’6” vs. 7’2”; not sure about differences with rod case (roughly same length but not sure about weight, aluminum, more crush resistant?).
You might look at warranty as it says accidental replacement can be had for 1/2 MSRP, or $99.50. It looks like someone linked the Slam Stick without making revisions so it works for both. Think about whether an MSRP price be specified now or simply MSRP when the warranty event takes place given an unsettled economic environment.
The biggest difference between this Slam Stick travel rod compared to the Toadfish travel rod (I have that rod too) is casting performance. The slam stick is a longer overall rod with a shorter butt section while also guides that are customized for 2500 and 3000 sized reels, so it casts noticeable farther. Also, the power levels on the Toadfish are weaker than industry standards to the point where I have trouble getting good hooksets while using weedless soft plastic lures even with the Medium power mid-section in use… that issue completely goes away with the slam stick travel rod which has stronger ratings and a longer blank which provides plenty of hookset power for punching through soft plastic material before getting a good grip on the fish.
Good point on the warranty… we’ll of course be very lenient for any members who have issues. I accidentally went under a low bridge while testing it out and it held up great to the accidental rubbing on coarse concrete, so I’ll be shocked if anyone has issues with this rod.
