C.A.S.T. for Kids: A Truly Special Day on the Water

When it comes to fishing, it’s never just about the fish—it’s about the moments, the connections, and the memories we create on the water. At Salt Strong, our mission has always been to unite friends and family through fishing, so partnering with C.A.S.T. for Kids for their special needs fishing event felt like the perfect match.

This incredible experience brought smiles, joy, and even a few firsts to families who deserve it most.

A Day Full of Firsts

The day started with excitement as kids arrived early in the morning, full of energy and anticipation. Each child received their own fishing rod and reel combo, a tackle box packed with goodies, and the chance to meet their captain for the day. For many, this was their first time on a boat—and for some, their first time fishing!

Watching these kids learn how to bait a hook, cast a line, and reel in their catch was something truly special. Some caught their very first fish, while others reeled in as many as seven! But what stood out the most wasn’t the number of fish; it was the pure joy on their faces.

When they returned to the dock, the excitement didn’t stop. Cheers and applause greeted them as they stepped off the boat, proud of their catches and eager to share their stories. With food, fun activities, and an awards ceremony waiting, every moment of the day was designed to make them feel like champions.

Why This Event Matters

This event holds a deeply personal meaning for us at Salt Strong. Our brother Daniel was born with cerebral palsy, and growing up, we saw how many opportunities he missed out on—things we often took for granted, like driving a boat or reeling in a fish.

That’s why partnering with C.A.S.T. for Kids means so much to us. It’s more than just a day of fishing—it’s about giving families the chance to experience something they might not otherwise have. For many parents, this was their first time fishing with their child, and seeing them share those moments was humbling and inspiring.

The smiles, the laughter, and the bonds formed on the water remind us why we do what we do. Fishing isn’t just a sport; it’s a way to bring people together.

The Memories That Last All Year

What’s truly amazing about this event is how it impacts these families long after the boats return to shore. Many of the kids leave talking about their experience for the rest of the year, counting down the days until they can do it all over again.

It’s a powerful reminder of how fishing can create lasting memories and connections. To everyone who made this event possible—from the captains who volunteered their time to the organizers behind the scenes—thank you for your generosity and dedication.

To the kids and their families, thank you for letting us be part of your journey. Seeing the joy on your faces and hearing your stories is why we’ll always support events like this.

Here’s to more unforgettable experiences, more connections, and of course, more fish!

Tight lines,
Joe

This is a really great thing you’re doing. I have a special needs child myself, although he’s no child anymore. He’s 41 with the mind of about a six year old. He loves to fish also. My 1st wife and I have been to many functions for these special needs kids and adults. Including Special Olympics events. You really feel for them but are excited when you see them smile or there faces light up because they succeeded in something. Bless Salt Strong and the Salt Strong community for partnering with C.A.S.T. for Kid’s. This is just another reason that Salt Strong is the greatest fishing club in America!
