As anglers, I’m willing to bet we’ve all been there at one point or another…
Whether it was getting a ride to go fishing in a friend’s vehicle, trying to fit your rods in the car or truck during a fully packed family vacation, or just having a vehicle that isn’t built to carry fishing rods…
It’s never fun to have to jam your expensive and cherished rods and reels into a place they weren’t mean to travel…
Well, inventor and avid angler Zee and his wife Jeanie have been created, tested (for the past 3 years), and have applied for a patent on a Magnetic fishing rod roof rack that can lock securely on any type of vehicle (but not motorcycles).
They just took it live on Kickstarter, and it is already getting some traction.
Here are some pics of the Magnerak fishing rod system on all types of cars:
How It Works
Pros of Magnerak Fishing Rod Holder
- Fits on any car or truck (with our without a roof rack)
- Fits vehicles with sunroofs
- The Magnerak uses the strongest magnets in existence (Neodymium) that secure the fishing rod holder even at high speeds and high winds
- No tools required! Easy to put on and take off.
- They tested this fishing rod holder for the past 3 years:
- 25,000 miles driven through 26 states.
- Tests show no visible loss in MPG or fuel economy with fishing rod holder on roof
- Weather conditions included driving in heavy rain and thunderstorms with 40-50 MPH wind gusts.
- Driving conditions included up to 75 MPH with cross winds behind SEMIs in rough weather.
- Can hold up to 3 rods and reels
- Can hold up to a 12ft rod
- Good for saltwater and freshwater rods/reels
- Easy to clean the inside of the case
- The fishing reels are protected by the hard plastic case
- The case locks
- Frees up tons of room in your car, truck, SUV, etc.
- These are available on Kickstarter for as low as $219 (it will retail at $399 when it comes out publically in 2016)
Cons of Magnerak Fishing Rod Holder
- It will not hold fly rods
- For anglers (or families) that normally travel with loads of rods and reels, this will only be able to hold up to 3 rods/reels
- For those of you kayak anglers that strap your kayak to your roof, it will be pretty tough to have this up there as well
- There is always the chance of damage to the exposed rods from small rocks, debris, and other things that get kicked up from the road (or if a bird hits your car like it did ours one trip…)
