How To Catch An Inshore Slam In One Trip [On The Water Tactics]

I went out on this trip with one goal: to catch a slam.
I started with a plan for how to approach each fish, but had to make a small adjustment once I saw how they were reacting.
This is exactly what we focus on at Salt Strong: helping you understand where fish hold, how they feed, and how to adjust with confidence so you can put more pieces together on the water.
If you’ve ever wanted to put together a slam on command, this is a good one to study.
Enjoy!
👉 If you want to see the full map breakdown and spot analysis (Insiders only) from this trip, the detailed report is inside the Salt Strong Community, where coaches and fellow members share what’s working, compare conditions, and help each other catch more fish with confidence.
Tackle Used:
- Rod: Slam Stick Spinning Rod
- Reel: Otis 2500
- Mainline: J-Braid 8 Grand – 10 lb
- Leader: 15 lb mono (w/ 30lb tippet for Snook)
- Lure 1: The Mulligan 4″ Paddletail
- Hook: Hoss Helix Hooks 3/0 1/8oz
- Lure 2: Moonwalker Topwater
Final Thoughts
The biggest lesson from this trip is that a plan matters, but the ability to adjust is what completes the slam. When you match your presentation and positioning to what the fish are actually doing in that moment, everything comes together faster.

Thanks for the great information Tony!
You’re welcome Leo!

Thanks Terry!
Great stuff as always, thanks Tony!
You’re welcome and thank you for the great feedback JD!
Excellent as usual Tony! Were you using a speed clip to change lures?
Thanks Scott! No I had each lure I was using rigged on different rods. I did have a Skinny Lipper rigged up with a speed clip but never got to using it.
Very good.
Thanks Buford!
Hi Tony. Really nice slam. I’m going to Chokoloskee the weekend of November 14, 15 & 16. Any suggestions on catching an inshore slam?
Thanks Joe! I haven’t fished down that way in quite a while, but I would be following similar tactics. We do have a pretty strong cool down happening this week so it could shake things up a bit. I would suggest posting in the community to get more info from people in the area:

Great video Tony!
Thanks Daniel!
Tony, can you do a walkthrough video of your small boat? Looks like that may be an affordable upgrade to the kayak.
It’s a gheenoe I think. I just got.
Hey Eric here is a video of that I have done:
