Jerk vs. Shrimp Lure Contest [Post Cold Front Edition]

This new jerk vs. shrimp lure contest performed right after a late Feb cold front reveals insightful results for anyone who is eager to know which specific lure and/or color is best to use.

For many years, I thought that fish wouldn’t eat well after cold fronts even if they are early spring.

But it turns out that I was simply using the wrong lures and fishing the wrong spots.

Over time, I finally learned that those same conditions actually make fish behavior more predictable, and they absolutely will eat if presented with a good offering.

In this video, you’ll see what really matters for catching fish post cold front… even with a loud dog on the boat the whole time.

Final Thoughts

Cold fronts most often force fish into tighter quarters, so spot selection is more crucial than ever since most of the water is void of fish.

Those who can find the spots where fish move to in order to avoid being too cold will be catching the most fish regardless of which lures/baits are used.

This trip was a good reminder that our focus needs to be on finding the fish without worrying much about minute details about which lure is used.

These 2 different lure molds in different colors had very similar results… the biggest factor by far was to have a few spots lined up based on the conditions knowing that at least 1 should be holding a good amount of fish.

And the Smart Fishing Spots software is by far the best way to easily find good spots since it has high-resolution satellite maps along with 1-foot contour layers so that you can find both shallow and deep spots for catching redfish, seatrout, snook, and/or flounder.
