Have You Seen This Jet-Propelled Kayak That Can Hit 32 MPH! [VIDEO]

I guess it was only a matter of time before we saw kayaks that could go 30+ MPH…
Let’s face it, kayaks are amazing for fishing.
They are more easily affordable than a boat, they have way less maintenance, you don’t need a trailer, they can get is very shallow water, you can launch them practically anywhere, and they are something that your entire family can enjoy.
Over the past decade or so, fishing kayaks have not only exploded in terms of total sales, but they have also exploded in terms of new options, more comfort, and even more ways to make the kayak propel in the water (besides the traditional kayak paddle).
First, it was Hobie that introduced the hands-free propulsion system called the “MirageDrive” that basically looks like two seal fins pushing you through the water that you power using your legs (freeing up your arms for reeling in fish).
Then came actual sails on kayaks making them propel just like a sailboat on a windy day…
And now, a kayak maker called Aquanami has come up with a jet-propelled kayak called the Jet Angler!
And not just any jet-propelled kayak, this baby will go upwards of 32 miles per hour!

The “Jet Angler” Kayak by Aquanami
So you are probably wondering about the specs on this yak (including how much it must cost).
Here is everything that we were able to dig up:
- The original version of this jet-propelled “jet kayak” is called the “JetKayak GT”. It is very similar to the “Jet Angler” except that it only has one seat
- The newer “Jet Angler” (that is featured in the video below) can hold one or two people and comes standard with multiple rod holders
- It can hold up to a 17.5 Horsepower, 4 Stroke gasoline engine and will hit speeds of 32 MPH with one person and 28 MPH max speed with two people
- 3.7-gallon gas tank that will give you approximately 100 miles on a single tank
- It was designed for fishing the flats and for duck hunting
- Works great in both freshwater and saltwater
- It uses a central joystick for steering
- Apparently very stable and very tough to flip over
- Flat button hull to get you in less than a foot of water
- Dry weight: 249 lbs
- No trailer needed (can fit in your truck, but still will need at least two people to lift it at 250lbs)
- Has an automatic bilge pump in the engine compartment
- Price: $5,980 (according to the Aquanami website)
Here are a few more pics of the Jet Angler:

Note: one video source we found said that this jet kayak is “unsinkable” but we didn’t see that exact wording on the Aquanami site.
However, they do claim it is incredibly stable, so much so that in the video, two anglers are both standing while fishing without worry of flipping.
I know that I couldn’t do that in my saltwater fishing kayak!

Conclusion
I’ve got to admit, this thing looks pretty cool.
I guess it all comes down to cost.
Many of the top kayaks with all of the bells and whistles (like the Hobie Mirage Pro Angler Kayak) are upwards of $3,500 to $4,000 right now.
So if this really is $5,980 with everything included, it’s not that far off of a price to have the ability to go upwards of 30 miles per hour and cover that much more fishing space.
And the fact that it holds two people (that can both be standing while fishing) is pretty legit.
But then again, the closer you start getting to $10k, the more it might make sense to look at a used flats skiff or buying a new Gheenoe.
So what do you think?

I only wish that I thought of this idea… pretty darn cool!
Very interested. Very few replies. Are then any REAL Honda motors to replace the engines if it takes a crap.. ?
Dang! what a mixed review. That boat will tip over! the engine is no good. Why not say it’s a great idea! Do you guys remember the first stand up “jet ski” most of us feel on out face at idel speed. Most paddle kayaks end up in a yard sale. Because you had to paddle them.
Not really many reviews. No one had one or even seen one but knew all the problems. I have one. Motor is made in North Carolina and it uses a Yamaha impeller/ jet drive. They are extremely stable, I’m 6’5” 265 it planes right out and I can stand and fish out of it. I’ve never felt the least bit of instability under Power and the joystick controls are effortless to use.
You can’t rent one in Tampa area fir $125/day! They deliver and pick up!
I agree, only they aren’t reviews. None of the people making bad comments have one or have ever seen one. How could they review it? I have one. Joy stick in center console is extremely easy to use, engine made in North Carolina and it uses a Yamaha PWC impeller/ jet drive. It doesn’t go 32 mph closer to 25/27 mph and has around 40-50 mile range. I’m 6’5” and 265#, it planes out with no problem and I can stand up and fish with no problem. Really stable ride also, I’ve never had it feel unstable while under Power.
I’m currently looking for a spare jet drive and I’m certain it isn’t a Yamaha brand, impossible to find spares for.
Call the distributor (281) 549-4829
Or +1 (713) 816-3703 he works there, he can get you one
From the looks of it, its running one of those Chinese GY6 Honda-clone engines that they put in the cheap 4 wheelers and scooters that come from China. I know I wouldn’t get to far from the boat ramp without a set of paddles.
No it isn’t. I have one. American made in North Carolina.
Which one are you talking about. Does anyone know where in Florida it can be seen/bought
I asked the engineer about this, as that’s what it looked like to me too. They are actually based on a Yamaha design though, and the parts are made to U.S. specs. The US version is different than the New Zealand model too. The coolant pump has been upgraded as well as the impeller. I know there are sensors on the engine that will cause it to shut down if it overheats due to clogged impeller, fresh water line plugged, etc.
Interesting. I saw one angler in our Facebook group saying he saw one of these skirting around in Sarasota recently, but other than that I’ve never seen one up close.
they sell them in fl. gs marine
My Uncle is a part of this. These are so much fun. My Dad owns one and is over 230lbs and he gets in and out fine and loves it. They are easy to maneuver and have some pick up to them. My Uncle shows them at the boat shows in Galveston, TX
Very cool Carrie! Tell your uncle if he wants anyone in the fishing industry to do a nice video review, we’d be glad to test it out…
How well does it work in eel grass, & hydrilla. Does it get clogged up in the jet drive?
That’s a great point Tim. Hoping one of the owners/manufacturers of the kayak checks these comments and gives some feedback.
I don’t know how comfortable I would be with a center stick steering,For a right handed person maybe an arm rest stick like an electric wheelchair has.
Guess we will all just look over the fact that the kid was holding his spinning reel upside down….
Hahaha. We noticed that too. When will these boat manufacturers learn to never hire a non-fishing model for their videos or photo shoots.
Cool boat. Not a kayak.
Agree!! why does it have to do 32mph??? Really,I hope you would need a boating license or else all the idiots that want more room than a jet ski and can’t afford a boat will be way more dangerous. Ughhh
By the way when the river is going 10mph downriver that means a Mokai can only go 7 mph upstream.where this .I wish I had that motor in BOTH OF MY MOKAI s.its smart to have power for RESERVE in case of EMERGENCY ! I’M A RETIRED FIRE CAPTAIN .I KNOW THE SPECS OF A REAL RESCUE BOAT/KAYAK/AND FUNNN.
SOME PEOPLE APPEAR BRIGHT. then they SPEAK or text & remove ALL DOUBT@
I would be interested if it had a quality engine and components. Love the concept!!
The “kid” is using a conventional reel. Casting guides on rod also. It takes some skill to run a boat this narrow. We hear about what happens to unskilled boaters too often on the news.
Hey Alan, the comments are referring to the actual kid at the 1:48 mark in the video. He certainly looks to be holding a spinning reel upside down.
where can we purchase a jet angler
I ain’t proud. I would love to check one out actually fishing on one of my local rivers to see how it handles.
It would still need additional customization for the purpose. Call it a boat, I don’t care 🙂 I have a nice, tight integration of Torpedo on my WS Ride 115 I’ve been using extensively on my local rocky rivers. You would have to rip it out of my cold, dead hands. If you need to do single put in/floats a lot – power is welcome and gives you the advantages/stealth of a paddled yak but opens up way more additional opportunities. Guys my Ride 115 with Torpedo is a “boat”, that’s fine with me 🙂
Better for actual fishing IMHO than a Mokai, and seems less noisy.
I like the option and hope Hobie or Wilderness Systems introduces one.
So, can you buy one of these in the U.S.? I see NO U.S. dealers. Anyone?
Troy,
The website is http://www.stikboats.com. The company is still getting set up, but will be open soon. Dealers to follow.
It will be based out of Austin Texas.
Looking for a dealer

I have to admit that you can get a pretty nice Gheenoe, set it up with a Jack plate, and 10 hp merc and get into some pretty shallow water. Very stable boats, and room for two for a lot less than $6000. I currently have a Mokai, and the jets are not all they’re cracked up to be. Sure you can get into 4 inches of water, but typically you pick up all kinds of crap. I usually have to stop once or twice per trip to clear debris out of the grate, sometimes a twig or two gets stuck in the impeller. It’s a real problem when you can’t stop, and there are many times It’s not practical to stop to try to get to the grate on the bottom of the boat. I also don’t like the fact that there’s no sides on these angler kayaks. Water in these parts can get down to 40°, and prefer to have some protection from spray. An interesting one to watch though.
Thank you Chris! I’ll keep an eye on the site.
I would love to have one even if a little pricey. I fish on a 37000 acre lake so i am limited in how far out i can get even with a Native Slayer Propel drive yak. Looking for a USA dealer…are there any? Not too excited that it appears to be made in Croatia and wonder about getting the engine worked on, maintained etc. Still very exciting to contemplate.
I want buy this kayak.
Jet angler is the price?
Buy a used whaler 13 for less money and you can fish, ski etc…
12 ‘ aluminum jon boat with a small used jet ski engine and you could prob hit 50mph and would be a more stable platform to fish from.
this gives me an idea…
put a real jet turbine on a kayak!
If money wasn’t a barrier, I would order one today!
No matter what they say, this is not a completely stable watercraft. I suspect there will be a situation when it will fail.
And you know this how? Do you have one? Test drive one? Friend have one? I have one. They are extremely stable. I’m 6’5” 270# and I stand up and fish out of it.
Looking for someone in Florida that has one. Would really like to check it out.
Love the video clip but being in South Africa the exchange rate will put them in the same price range as a local semi rigid boat locally
How do I buy one of these I live in the state of New Jersey USA?
What’s the price/ options/ shipping to wy. Or where can you pick up?
Its November 10th 2018
Is it fair to say ive been looking forward to this stikboat for almost 2 years now? Whats going on guys? Is it or isn’t it coming out? I would appreciate if someone told me the information i seek. When is it going to be for sale? And can you please ship to Canada. Thank you & hopefully ill get a response back. Goodluck to me.. ????????
You can buy it from http://www.aquanami.eu/jetangler. I just purchased one. It cost me $4700 + 450 to ship and 643 tarrif and other fees. It’s due to arrive in CT this week.
Hi has it arrived??? And did you try it yet ??
It looks nice just too much for the price plus dont like buying stuff over the internet for that amount of money but it is very neat I bet they are a blast
Too heavy. Does not need that much power. If 1 man cannot carry if by himself, you have just defeated the definition of a kayak. I would be interested in a kayak with a 2 horsepower jet drive.
I think the price must be less than $4,000,
Otherwise I will buy a Porta-Bote or some other option.
