Redfish Lure Color Experiment [Slam Shady vs. Gold Digger]
- By: Luke Simonds
- on

This fishing report shows a fun redfish lure color experiment that Tony and I conducted to see if the fish would respond to white (slam shady) or black (gold digger) differently.
For this test, we used the Mulligan lure because it’s our favorite for the summer months given that it casts a mile while being just 4 inches long which has been the size of most baitfish lately.
We had a great time including multiple double hookups, so we were able to get some helpful data that you’ll certainly enjoy watching.

Keys to Success
- The key was to use the Smart Fishing Spots system along with the recent trends as explained in the Weekend Game Plans to identify high-probability spots to target
- Once on the water, we specifically looked for zones with schools of mullet to decide exactly where to fish
Conclusion
This lure color experiment was yet another one that showed very different colors getting some nice catches. So that’s further evidence that we must always put much more focus on spot selection compared to lure color.

Great video Luke!!
Thanks for making time to post the nice comment Michael!
Juice or no Juice?
We did use the juice on these lures… I have become a full believer in it so I use it on all lures.
Awesome! I enjoyed watching this video!
Thanks for making time to post the nice comment Amos!
Interesting comparison, Luke. I’ve always done well on night glow, which in darkness glows chartreuse, and the Sour Lemon color MirrOlure makes in the Lil’ John. In bright sunlight, and shallows, night glow appears to be a cream color or off-white, but in dirty water or dark conditions it glows chartreuse and the color is similar to the DOA Key Lime Pie and MirrOlure Sour Lemon.
I look forward to testing out some glow lures in the near future.
Glow colors from Gulp are some of my most productive!

Is that picture really an eighth ounce weight?
Yes… it’s just a closeup pic so the weight looks bigger than it really is.
That was a lot of fun just watching!
Glad to see that you enjoyed watching this video!
